Have been looking for a 1911 in .45ACP for a while... and was leaning towards "Commander"/"Defender sizes... when this popped up on the RKGuns BF/CM ads.

Given the 33% discount off MSRP, guessing they aren't selling well and there's likely a reason (from grip size to "absolutely suck"?)

Everyone I know with a full-size RIA 1911 has nothing bad to say, other than it taking a few/100 rounds to loosen up a bit...

Anyone here with firsthand experience with one? Or am I the guinea pig? šŸ˜

I have never liked the 4.25" and under 1911's. They have always been hit or miss in the reliability department. It seems like you have to tune all the springs just right to get them to run. That's why I bought the MP 2.0 compact in 45acp.

While I don't have first hand experience I have some good second hand knowledge. I've got a good friend/customer in Texas who is kinda a 1911 snob but in a good way. He carries a ria bbr 3.10 almost daily in a aiwb holster I made for him. He's got thousands of rounds threw the tiny double stack and hasn't had any issues. He did say first break in there was a stove pipe or 2 but after few range trips everything loosened up and has ran perfect since. I've held one at a gunshow and the tiny grip mixed with the wider double stack just didn't feel good in my hands.

Thank you sir!
Since I *must* have pinky engagement šŸ˜¬, knew an extended base-plate was a given and will just have to see on the rest of the grip...

I have two one in 45 and one in 9 and wouldn't recommend them to anyone
The trigger pull on both are horrendous.
The 45 is ported so it doesn't matter what color you paint the front sight after about 15 rounds it's black and it's hard to pick up in the brightest of conditions
They didn't port the 9 mm to remedy this but again horrible Tigger pull
Another thing if you throw it on the scale it's heavy
So you ask if I disliked. The first so much why did I buy another.
Because I drank the Kool aid.
Former ria fanboy but the last three I've bought have been terrible.
I have an stk 100 going back Monday for the second time
But your mileage may vary

Thanks for the feedback... really.
This is the first "negative" I've heard about the triggers, not that I looked extensively or hasn't been posted somewhere...
Hopefully, I'll find it somewhere between the predictable M&P and the horrid LCP/LC9... hopefully šŸ˜

To be objective here the Old Para Warthog and the "Rock" they are basically the same except for a few minor things, people please don't blast me with all the differences in detail.
The Pic in this thread is a earlier model apparently as the new one have a front sight post, ported etc.
The trigger is on the heavy side, nothing that can't be fixed. Sites are not bad, could be improved, as with most sights.
I'm still in the "break in" stage with this one.

The downside for me is I have a rather big hand so the "pinky finger " rests under the mag well, but is no different with the Warthog. It is heavy and loaded with 10rds, 230 ball it has some weight to it, in which I don't care, donā€™t like handguns that "feel like squirt guns". Yeah got a Sig-365, its lite / compact, Sig 250, Hellcat etc. They are small also.. Just like steel handguns ( just an opinion )

One of the mods made has been the addition of EGW guide rod kit. Drop in for the most part, functions flawlessly, ( it did before ) shoot everything from LSWC - 230 FMJ. Mec Gar makes 14rd clips that work great, Para clones but work "without mods" there's a guy that 3D prints extended grip for that mag, which basically eliminates the "Pinky" problem...there are some other mods I'll do down the road...sites, springs, trigger work..etc.

Note:
They throw in another spring and recommend you swap it out 500 rounds or so.. havenā€™t read anything about any issues, haven't reached that round count on that spring due to the EGW swap. I'm sure someone will find something, they always do.

Now I have custom 1911's, old NM, Gold Cups, etc. Granted it ain't no target pistol, mine shoots fine, no real issues, other than a heavy trigger pull. It has eaten everything it's been fed. Fits holsters designed for the Warthog.. will find out what its all about when I throw it in the Ransom Rest.

Here's a few picz plus a link to the guide rod kit

I'm case you're interested

Thank you @Snoopz ! All that aligns with what I've read. Since I can't leave anything alone, pretty sure the guide rod *and* extended mags will happen regardless šŸ˜

Thank you @S4f ! Can you define specifically what sucks about the trigger in your opinion? Like ridiculous travel/take-up? Gritty? Bad reset?

It's just heavy takes forever to break in stalled a new sear. No help
Ordered a warthog leaf spring but it couldn't be made to fit.
So you can't do a decent trigger job on it .
For me accuracy begins at the trigger and even after a couple hundred round it did get any better.
Look I not try to deter you from you purchase
If you like the gun then you do you.
I'm running a mcp 35 pi right now , the trigger was terrible when it got here but after a couple hundred rounds it seems to be smooting out, something the bbr never did.

Little thread revival here, if anyone cares. Saw these while browsing double stack 1911s, found a 45acp on sale so ordered one and picked up this morning. First impression was, I've never seen a gun covered in so much oil from the factory. Like, I think they dropped it in the bucket of oil, shook it once and shoved it in the plastic bag lol. Didn't really matter, finish is in good condition and functioned well for dry fire after a good cleaning.

While i waited delivery, i ordered a spare mag, another extra spring, and Pearce grip extention for Para double stack that does NOT slide right on with out modification to the extension. Not currently on the mag as I haven't taken the time to get in to it yet. I've got XL hands so fitting a pinky extention will be a must for a carry application.

Really flat shooting little pistol, did 240 rounds today with S&B 230gr, LAX 230gr and Freedom XDEF 230gr hp "+P" - no failures.
I brought out my g30 gen4 for some side by side and the added weight really showed a difference for recoil, it also showed a difference in holster on body but I'd give way that my g30's holster is considerably better attached than the "fits 300+ guns" universal iwb holster I used for the RIA.

I think I would have rather bought the 9mm model, but this 45acp was a better price, and currently my only other 45 pistol is the g30, so I'm happy to diversify a bit.

I'm no 1911 snob and time will tell more, but if you can score this thing sub msrp, I say go for it. 1000012664.jpg

Have one also as posted before, nice little pistol, Mec-Gar makes mags for it 14rds, that fit and function without any mods, a place to put that "pinky" , EGW makes and sales a "Guide rod kit" for the BBR 3.10 45acp, well worth the price, also there is a guy who 3D prints mag extensions, that work great, I'll look for his nfo if you want it. Basically the BBR 3.10 45acp is a Para Warthog more or less. Both are fun pistols.
Shoot just about everything through mine, without a hiccup.
