S&W released aluminum M&P... for some reason.

I actually saw and held one at lgs today. Kinda liked it. It feels good in the hand, and the trigger was actually good to me. Good break and short reset.interesting color too. Im just not ready to be the guinea pig on another new gun.

Jerry appears to dig it, granted I’m sure S&W pays him a boat load of cash. But I personally don’t believe Jerry would ever be a shill for anyone, no not even S&W, Jerry has always appeared to be a stand up kind of dude to me, but that opinion is solely based on interviews and YouTube videos so I could be way off base here.

Regardless of all that, I’m a diehard Glock fanboi, yeah I’m “that guy”, but I’m also a realist and understand that the M&P platform is arguably equal to my beloved Glocks, I’ve owned several M&P handguns and enjoyed them, as an aside, my wife & daughter both carry the Shield 9mm pistol

I’ve always thought that the M&P line of handguns were soft shooters so I’d imagine the aluminum frame would make them even softer shooting, yeah 6 ounces more weight isn’t significant, but the added rigidity of the frame should help, hopefully I’ll get a chance to shoot one and see for myself.

Just remember, when it comes to M&Ps, or any other blaster for that matter, how they feel in the hand at the LGS has no impact whatsoever on how well they will put rounds on target.

Been there, done that with M&P’s 1.0, and 2.0. Triggers, sights, optics and all. I’m not throwing any more money at those.

Edit to add: And if they work for you that is a wonderful thing. I’m not trying to throw shade on them. More to the point is that good ergonomics don’t equal accuracy, for me anyway.

Come on, man! Don't be like that. This could be "the one." I continue my search for the Holy Grail.

What's the deal with the front of the grip? Is it a polymer insert? I would have liked a crosshatch pattern into the aluminum like the Q5 match steel frame or some of the cz 75 series. I'll reserve judgement until I hold it but IDK if it's for me. Although I am a m&p fanboy

Between Glocks and 1911's, which gun points naturally for you?
Presentation from the holster is a trained skill.

P80 m&p cz and Glocks I shoot the m&p best but 3 of the 4 the grip angle is the same. Some guns just have that secret sauce.

This is a good test.

I’ve had so many other things going on that I haven’t shot anything at all in probably six weeks or more. Longest stretch in probably ten years.

I pulled out a full sized 1911 just now that I have run in a lot of matches, closed my eyes and presented it to the wall. Opened my eyes and was aimed way low.
Then pulled out your old G17, which has been shot in as many more matches, as well as running it in the 2.5 day Vickers/Hackathorn class a few years ago, and an all day class with Ricky Harris a few years ago, who you know.

I had almost as good an initial sight picture with the G17 as I would if my eyes had been open. I don’t think I was compensating knowing I was pointing low with the 1911. I tried to aim it as if a threat was in front of me in the dark.

For sure Glock is master race!!!

Haha but it's a trained skill and muscle memory. For not shooting in 6 weeks that is good your presentation is still solid.

I'm betting thats why the M&P 2.0 was disappointing to you. If thats true, then the Sig P320 is also a bad performer for you.

Hackathorn has a great low light drill we ran in the dark after dinner and an all day class. I run a fiber front sight and a blacked out U notch rear. No night sights on that 17. No weapon mounted light.

We stood facing an IDPA silhouette at 7 yards. Maybe 10. In the dark. We could barely make out the target in front of us.
Then we would shine our handheld light briefly near the target (so as not to blind ourselves) just to get fixed on where the target was. Put the light away without taking our eyes off the target.

Draw, and put ten shots on the head of the target.

I was shocked to get all ten head shots.

If I were you, I wouldn't touch anything but a Glock for the next 3 years. Your proficiency with a 43 tells me your body has done made its choice.

I only have one 1911 left after going through a dozen or so the past few years, a Range Officer I sorta hot rodded, and it’s pretty scuffed up. It’s just fun to shoot and changes things up from running Glocks all the time.

M&Ps (especially the thumb safety models—those have always seemed to have nicer triggers) have shot great for me in the past. If I was in the market for a double-stack optics-ready gun, and they came out with a thumb safety model, this would be high on my list.

Sort of an ergonomic substitute for a doublestack 1911/2011, but in a proven-reliable setup with cheap and plentiful mags.

I like the idea personally. I had no idea they would run 850 though. Was that the price you saw in Raleigh?

I guess you're right. No different than the aluminum frame i got for the 365xl. I guess i was hoping it would come in around $700.

So I was interested in this; that is until I got my hands on it. I was 50/50 on getting one...it turned into an absolute must buy. The trigger is exactly the same as they put in the shield plus. That is to say that it is far superior than any other striker fired trigger.
And it's optics ready. 799$ is about right in my opinion.

I cannot believe how much better the trigger is over the regular M&P 2.0 trigger. No need to Apex this gun.

We have one in the shop at Elk Outdoors in Elkin. I like it. I'm a fan of the 3rd Gen, so.... The trigger isn't bad, has a good reset like the Canik, but it doesn't have the audible click. Its more expensive than I thought it would be at 849.00.

Different strokes for different folks. I'm an M&P guy and I bought it the first time I saw it. Grip texture even more aggressive than regular 2.0 in my opinion. Like all M&P's though its begging for an Apex trigger.

Edit: and I didn't pay anywhere close to msrp
