Rey’s a Clone. The Evil Rey is a Clone. There are probably thousands of her, most failed, except for the two. Ow you don’t have to answer the question about her parents; she has none (if she turns out to be a clone of Luke from his hand on Bespin, well, the Skywalker Line continues and she could technically be his “daughter.” Or they’ll make Keri Russel a Mara Jade type character from whom she was cloned.)
Her “test” will be fighting herself, a la Luke vs Clone Luuke in Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire trilogy, with a resurrected Palpatine in the roll of Joruus Cboath.
All those original Empire variety Imperial Star Destroyers emerging from the darkness? That’s the emergence of the Katana Fleet - same as Zahn’s storyline just with a different class of ship.
My problem with the new ones is their willful disregard for the original characters we grew up with, and a new crop of wholly uninspiring twits with little to no character development or story that I actually care anything about. I’m not invested in any of them.
The Last Jedi is the only SW film I have only ever seen once, and the only one I don’t own.
The Rise of Skywalker will be the first SW film I won’t see on opening night (I wasn’t born for A New Hope, but did see each of the Special Editions on opening night). I’m just not wanting to go stand in line for hours only to be bombarded with PC tropes and no one is special unless everyone is special nonsense.
I hope I am wrong.
