I have been trying to find the right truck for a few weeks now and i just havent been able to.
The wife took off today since I located exactly what I was lookong for. I already had everything lined up with the bank with the bank before hand, they just told me to pick out what I wanted.
So we loaded up at 8am and headed down to Mooresville North Carolina. The truck was a 2005 King Ranch F350 single rear wheel 4 door, 4 wheel drive it was pretty much everything I was looking for in a truck.
The bad
We roll onto the lot and I instantly spot it in the lineup of trucks out there and everything looks just as pictured.... at first. So I hop out of the wife's van with lots of excitement and anticipation and very anxious to look it over. But something very quickly catches my eye. And it's one of the worst things I expected to find.... Rust.
The ugly
The truck had multiple rust spots along the fender Wells and the frame was very flaked with rust. The sad thing about this is I had a conversation with the dealer before I drove down there about the truck and he never mentioned it. I'm all for doing business as honestly and as fairly as possible. To not take accurate pictures of that and to not let somebody know beforehand when they tell you they are driving an hour and a half away is just not the right way to do business. After having a very short and very heated conversation I left the lot.
The good
We pulled over in a local parking lot and I started the process of looking for another truck. I had mainly been looking for an F-250 or F-350 single rear wheel. I didn't really want a dually just because I truthfully didn't need that much truck. I came across an 03 F-350 with a hundred and seventy thousand miles on it and decided that I might as well give the guy call. I called the guy and I explained to him that I had driven an hour and a half away from him when I was already two hours away from him before I left this morning. That it would take me awhile to get to him and that I had a pregnant wife in the front seat and two kids in the backseat and I would hate to drive all that way if we couldn't come together all numbers. He gave me an accurate description and told me what he was willing to do, I had already looked up the truck and he was well below book. I told him to let me talk to the wife and I would call him back to let him know if we were heading that way. So after talking to her about two minutes she told me that if it's what I wanted that we needed to go and get it. So I called the salesman back and told him we were on our way he said great he would go ahead and top it off and have it ready for test drive. I pulled onto the lot and it was parked right where he said it would be and he was patiently waiting for me to show up. He's threw me the keys after I looked it over and asked me if I wanted to take it for a test drive. So me and my son took it for a test drive while the wife waited back at the dealership. While she was there talking with our salesman she learned that there was a guy waiting on a lot to buy the truck. But that the owner/salesman had told him he could not sell it without giving me the first chance since he already had started making a deal with me. I came back from the test drive and was pretty much in love. I told the salesman to get me a bill of sale and I will go to the bank and be right back. I overheard the guy that was waiting tell his salesman that he would test drive a different truck. While I wasn't necessarily looking for this much truck I am very happy with it. Its a 03 6.0 4wd King Ranch that has already had the egr deleted with only 173000 on the od.
