VinFast is Building A $4B Auto Plant In Moncure, NC

Yeah. 1 watt is 1 joule per second. 1 joule representing a coulomb of charge which has a mechanical equivalent in terms of kinetic energy and moving mass. Another way of thinking of it is 1 amp at 1 volt through 1 ohm of resistance. All that charge has to be put in the battery. 700 miles, figure thats at about 12 hours of driving at an average speed of 60mph. So how many amp-hours does that equate to? I don't know exactly, but I can say it is A LOT. That in turn is A LOT of current that has to be drawn from the electrical system. Yeah, problematic for sure.

It = a whole lot of potential energy from a battery if something shorts in a accident as well!

No problem… I mean it is someone’s else’s problem … that will be fixed when there are brown out across the country ..

The first step will be to outlaw recharging the vehicles then have rolling recharging times based on your government ID. Don’t have a government ID? Easy they are free for illegals but the rest of us will need to pay a yearly fee of $2,000.
If you don’t charge your vehicle during your designated time you forfeit your next three time slots and have to pay an extra $2,000. See - no problem…
No, you have it all wrong. They will declare a CLiMaTe EmErGeNcY and force people to stay home. Then you don't need your EV so they will turn off your charger remotely (yes, they can do that)

My job made me witness to a lot of overly excited economic development people over this...

Me at the meetings.

a typical sedan at highway speed represents kinetic energy of about 500 kilojoules

figure 800kJ with the inefficiencies accounted for, then figure how fast you want to charge the battery to put that much energy back in, and then you see the problem very quickly

it all comes down to the time involved ... if everybody wants to charge their car batteries all at once, and in less than an hour, well, we will need a new grid that is 4x as capacious as the one we have AND a dozen new Shearon Harris size reactors

someone, check my math because if I am right, we are being hoodwinked by our overlords once again
You are right, but the clueless MSM majored in liberal arts in school so they wouldn't know a thing about it lol

150,000 of these junk vehicles per year? Read any of the reviews? Who's going to be buying them? Anyone here? Show of hands, please. I don't want a coal burning car at all, let alone one that is a poor-quality pile of communist crap.
Triangle Innovation Point? 🤮

What Harvard Media Grad names these things? "Innovation" has to be the most over used word of the decade. Jeez. Barf.

Maybe innovating new ways of graft? Nah, can't be. The old ones still seem to be working just fine.

What was wrong with Moncure Manufacturing, Madmen and MudHoles?

Same clueless liberals that think electric cars are "emissions free".

Here are a couple of articles that indicate that the demand for coal burning cars may be becoming saturated too:

Of course, the manufacturers, who are losing money on the coal burning cars are in denial about it, even as their on-hand inventories rise, and prices fall.

Someone previously used the KONA ICE vs KONA EV example. The EV drive train is an extra $20K+. Break even is in excess of 100K miles.
I am not paying $45K for a $23K car. Not when I go farther, in far less time in the $23K car.

EVs also weigh much more than gas/diesel counterparts, so more road wear, etc. New roads and infrastructure will have to be built differently, and not in the cheaper direction. For commercial, if trucks are capped at the same weight limits, that means less cargo capacity per truck per trip, which means more trips for the same amount of goods. More trips with heavier trucks equals more road maintenance, more drivers needed and more charging for the same amount of goods hauled. Not too many people adding these factors in on the conversations (like there are actually 2-sided conversations about this). 🤣 Definitely some people getting rich off of this though!

Is the Vin Fast site the one on the right if heading towards Asheboro from Raleigh on 64?

I thought that was the Toyota battery plant. I think VinFast is down toward Moncure/New Hill off Highway 1.

Based on this review, hard pass.

I had previously read about the poor ride quality. I have also read that the acceleration issue might be fixable via software patch. Peak HP is limited based on what the current battery charge is. I think that was done as a battery life issue since the original launch had leased battery packs. I imagine that also fudges their range numbers.

Overall, they seem to expect Americans to adapt to their quirks rather than making a vehicle that Americans would enjoy.

Toyota is just off 421 to right just north of liberty where the over pass is going in . The road work you see from 421 is just to handle the traffic. You cannot see much of the site from 421 but its huge. You see more of it from old 421.

Off 64 in between siler city headed toward asheboro up on the hill on the right is going to be wolfspeed’s location. The chip mfg.

Vinfast was in moncure area right off 1 best i am aware.

I still say it will never be built. I think Wolfspeed already pulled this crap somewhere else in the US. I dont know what they got out of it other than a steak dinner or something. That is to announce they were coming to build a plant somewhere. Get wined, dined and 69'd and a whole lotta promises made both ways and then not build the plant.

Wolfspeed and toyota is well under way at this point so it would takes some major brakes or derailment for those two. Other one not so sure on yet

Maybe they do it places their shell companies have land to divest to drive the price up?

I worked on a Toyota project in Mississippi. 16 production lines. Complete build out. When the plant was finished and they were ready to punch the go button. They turned out the lights and padlocked the doors. So I should restate my misgivings. I dont think they (Vinfast) will ever build a vehicle at the NC site.

Not sure what the difference is in ground breaking and earth movement other than they been moving earth out there for a while. Photo Op today I guess at the taxpayers expense. At least somebody(s) will be sweating balls.

Them, Guv Pooper and FkEx have been digging up the roads for a year now. It looks like shite around here as I'm trying to sell my home.

Next to Woody's range

Cramer just stated that he more or less believes this company is a total fraud. Their IPO opened yesterday at $22 and blasted up to $37, making the company worth more than Ford. Insiders that were able to buy the actual IPO paid $10.

Today, it’s around $26. This will be fun to watch.

Sounds like a great way for drug money to turn into legal money.

Well seeing that Cramer is wrong about almost everything we’re going to need more data points. 😆

The Vietnamese-founded carmaker is part of Vingroup, a conglomerate with interests in retail, property and healthcare. It is owned by the billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, who still holds 99% of the shares in VinFast. 3,000+ cars imported to USA, under a few hundred sold.
With recent run up in share price, they are valued greater then Ford. Totally insane.

It was done via "SPAC" acquisition, so a bit wonky as most of those things are. It's legit, but, well, not exactly a standard IPO.

FOMO and then a slow bleed down would be my guess. But then, I'm no inside Wall Streeter like Cramer so don't bet your retirement money on my blathering.

Given the supposed slow sales of EV's from almost all makers, except Tesla, I think they are going to have a long slow slog to reach "real" (whatever that is) profitability.

In the mean time, I'm forming 87 different shell companies to manufacture the latest and greatest 'thing' here in NC. Hoping to lock in some of that sweet, sweet taxpayer money from Gov. Pooper and some Fed dollars from PotatoHead. The SPAC buyout will be later after the funds are cashed for one last dash of cash before I retire to Argentina. Anyone else want in?

Until we adopt the CA or MA EV mandates.

I wonder if there is a hidden state fleet contract with them that kicks in after x number of units produced.

Meanwhile Wolfspeed tok a big hit from expenses associated with the new facility under construction and EV chip sales.
