VinFast is Building A $4B Auto Plant In Moncure, NC

Is the Vin Fast site the one on the right if heading towards Asheboro from Raleigh on 64?

I thought that was the Toyota battery plant. I think VinFast is down toward Moncure/New Hill off Highway 1.

Based on this review, hard pass.

I had previously read about the poor ride quality. I have also read that the acceleration issue might be fixable via software patch. Peak HP is limited based on what the current battery charge is. I think that was done as a battery life issue since the original launch had leased battery packs. I imagine that also fudges their range numbers.

Overall, they seem to expect Americans to adapt to their quirks rather than making a vehicle that Americans would enjoy.

Toyota is just off 421 to right just north of liberty where the over pass is going in . The road work you see from 421 is just to handle the traffic. You cannot see much of the site from 421 but its huge. You see more of it from old 421.

Off 64 in between siler city headed toward asheboro up on the hill on the right is going to be wolfspeed’s location. The chip mfg.

Vinfast was in moncure area right off 1 best i am aware.

I still say it will never be built. I think Wolfspeed already pulled this crap somewhere else in the US. I dont know what they got out of it other than a steak dinner or something. That is to announce they were coming to build a plant somewhere. Get wined, dined and 69'd and a whole lotta promises made both ways and then not build the plant.

Wolfspeed and toyota is well under way at this point so it would takes some major brakes or derailment for those two. Other one not so sure on yet

Maybe they do it places their shell companies have land to divest to drive the price up?

I worked on a Toyota project in Mississippi. 16 production lines. Complete build out. When the plant was finished and they were ready to punch the go button. They turned out the lights and padlocked the doors. So I should restate my misgivings. I dont think they (Vinfast) will ever build a vehicle at the NC site.

Not sure what the difference is in ground breaking and earth movement other than they been moving earth out there for a while. Photo Op today I guess at the taxpayers expense. At least somebody(s) will be sweating balls.

Them, Guv Pooper and FkEx have been digging up the roads for a year now. It looks like shite around here as I'm trying to sell my home.

Next to Woody's range

Cramer just stated that he more or less believes this company is a total fraud. Their IPO opened yesterday at $22 and blasted up to $37, making the company worth more than Ford. Insiders that were able to buy the actual IPO paid $10.

Today, it’s around $26. This will be fun to watch.

Sounds like a great way for drug money to turn into legal money.

Well seeing that Cramer is wrong about almost everything we’re going to need more data points. 😆

The Vietnamese-founded carmaker is part of Vingroup, a conglomerate with interests in retail, property and healthcare. It is owned by the billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, who still holds 99% of the shares in VinFast. 3,000+ cars imported to USA, under a few hundred sold.
With recent run up in share price, they are valued greater then Ford. Totally insane.

It was done via "SPAC" acquisition, so a bit wonky as most of those things are. It's legit, but, well, not exactly a standard IPO.

FOMO and then a slow bleed down would be my guess. But then, I'm no inside Wall Streeter like Cramer so don't bet your retirement money on my blathering.

Given the supposed slow sales of EV's from almost all makers, except Tesla, I think they are going to have a long slow slog to reach "real" (whatever that is) profitability.

In the mean time, I'm forming 87 different shell companies to manufacture the latest and greatest 'thing' here in NC. Hoping to lock in some of that sweet, sweet taxpayer money from Gov. Pooper and some Fed dollars from PotatoHead. The SPAC buyout will be later after the funds are cashed for one last dash of cash before I retire to Argentina. Anyone else want in?

Until we adopt the CA or MA EV mandates.

I wonder if there is a hidden state fleet contract with them that kicks in after x number of units produced.

Meanwhile Wolfspeed tok a big hit from expenses associated with the new facility under construction and EV chip sales.

Closed Thursday at $20, down 34% on the day.

That will be the excuse when they dont move in or make any chips. Big ass metal bldg rusting on the side of the road. I hope I am wrong but then again I use that road and there is already too much traffic. What ever happened to 3C in Alamance Co?

$15.40 today. 😳

As I have been thru this before with Toyota, I'm guessing Vinfast will never make a car at Chatham plant and Toyata will never make a battery at the "mega (thud) site". Some other company may make batteries there but Toyota wont. Hearing but have no articles to quote that EV inventories are rising as sales are flagging.

Site work is still going on, sewer lines going in when I went by this week.

Demand for coal burning cars is drying up as it is. What makes them think people will buy their overpriced piece of communist junk? The reviews of the product make it sound like the worst car out there; the one comment about the ride making the driver and passenger nauseous was, choice.

I also have to wonder how much of a negative impact all the mandates from the democrat party that people embrace the things, without choice, is having. I know the more they push their “green” lies, the less I want what they’re selling.

The new guidance lays out how dealers can effectively reduce the price of an EV by as much as $7,500
at the point of purchase rather than the customer having to wait until they file their taxes to claim the credit.

(and marked up $8K)
