Wagram-Midsouth Visit

Let's say a guy had a weird impulse to find a Model 17 .22. Is this the place to go?
Like most gun stores, business is great for Mid South. A phone call might be a good idea if you’re looking for something specific.

On the other hand, it‘s pretty hard to visit there and not find something you didn’t realize you needed. ;)

Not a problem. Glad to help you and Philip out. Was going through DT’s myself. Had not spent any money there since thanksgiving but I cured my itch today. Left with a wallet much lighter than I walked in with but as with every transaction I’ve made there left with a smile on my face. What a great place to do business

I wish I'd seen you were going. I'd have asked you for a recon report on any left-handed bolt actions you might see.

@BatteryOaksBilly @Etruett --

How are they with evaluating/appraising antique percussion arms? (Asking for a couple of really old friends.)

im not 100% sure how deep his knowledge is on percussion, but I’m sure it’s way above average. He has some percussion guns hanging on the wall and Philip would be the first person I would ask if I wanted info

What caliber? More than likely I will stop in tomorrow.
308 Win -- especially interested in scout rifles and lightweight semi-auto. Thanks!

@Etruett, I must have just missed you there today. I stopped through on my way down to SC and left with a sturdy (I was looking for a beater) model 10 at a very reasonable price. It was good to see MS still has a respectable inventory in these times. I had to leave before the puddle I was making got too noticeable. Always amazed at the fine wheelguns he has.

I guess I left around 1030 broke but smiling

Maybe that’s why everyone was smiling when I got there 😂. I was there right around lunchtime. And it was seemed damn busy in there for a Tuesday.
He has been busy since March. Been a many 50 gun sales days since the panic started. Its almost sad to see his inventory down so low. I figure he is at about 50-60% which would be a great inventory for many shops but you get used to seeing 4000+ guns when you walk in the door.

Call them and see if they have one. Although I can recommend the trip just to see the place, much better than any tour of, say, The Biltmore House, it's a long way for you to go. Just be aware they get call after call after call about what they have, so be patient.

Heck, just go and see what they have.

There's yo answer^^^ If Eddie said it, you can take it to the bank.
I proved to myself today that I probably spend too much time there. Of the 4 K frame 22's there was 2 in one case and the other 2 were in 2 separate cases on either side of the room. I knew walking in the door where they all were, it was just a matter of had he sold any since last week. What is really amazing is I am lucky enough to go in Midsouth at least 50 times a year and rarely is there a visit when I don't see something I've never seen before. Sometimes its something he just got in but a lot of times its a gun that has been there a while that I just overlooked and I hardly ever look at the long guns. Hell its worth the time to stop and just chat with Philip for a minute. You will never go into a Gun Shop anywhere and find a nicer more fair guy to deal with.

Maybe I'll find a 3" J frame Smith or an interesting old Winchester 22.....

I've never been.... it sounds perfectly dangerous.
Leave your credit cards at home and only take what cash that you will not be taking back home.
You've seen pictures of shops in gun magazine that take your breath away right?
Head down and plan on stepping to your left when you go thru the door before you raise your head.

Mid South is my favorite gun store on planet Earth. I bought a Winchester 61 pump action 22 that is darn near perfect. Suspect they will bury me with that thing. I won't let it go.

There are so many things that are great about that gun shop. It is almost like a museum except you can actually buy the exhibits.

The first time I went I took a pocket full of cash. I was determined that I was going to buy something. When I got there, I was overwhelmed with stuff that I wanted. I couldn't make a decision and left with my head spinning. Never spent a cent that day.

HaHa Y'all ever played the "I don't need that" and left just to eat lunch and then go back and get it??
The hardest part of that problem is where to eat lunch???? We finally found somewhere to actually get something decent....it's about 200 yards away....

I’ll tell you, don’t look in Wadesboro. That place seems shittier every time I go through it.
