Seems like the handgunners have their shooting thread and the reloaders have their reloading thread so why not us?

Went out yesterday with a friend to shoot some steel and paper at 600 yards in high and very variable winds. What a hoot! At times I was aiming about 6 inches to the left of the cardboard/target (two feet from the bullseye?) and sometimes to the right of the bullseye a foot or more. Surprisingly my waterline wasn't too bad though. I never realized how much fun it was shooting distance in high winds. I'm hooked!

We used the BR targets as it was easier to see the blue bull.

@Downeast what caliber you’re shooting in the first post? Not bad for high and shifting winds.

What are the requirements for the 1K qualification course?
Rumor and chatter among the other guys going for it is that we are practicing the right things. Tight groups at 100 and consistent hits on that 540.
Edit to ensure we’re not passing confidential info.

Final practice today for daughter and I for the 1k qual tomorrow. Worked out our groups at 100 and rang the steel at 540. I think we’re good. 👍

Awesome! Really hoping my 4 and 1 y/o ladies get into it. Got a Model 7 223 for the first one, on the search for the 2nd.

Walked the 11.5 SR-15 out to 400 yards, offhand in 4 shots (100,200,300,400). Wish I could do it in the 3 gun competitions consistently 😂

@Average Joe

,284 with a new bullet at a lower velocity, Flags were straight out and shifting 180 degrees. Like I said, it was a hoot. The problem was I couldn't see the holes in the paper with the mirage! Just having fun. ;)

Working that 6 inch plate at 540 yards with my 19 yo daughter at Woodys. Practicing to get us qual’d for the 1k range. She’s better than me. Just trying to raise a bad ass human. 💪😂
That is pretty damn good. Less than 1 MOA at 540 yards.

If anyone is interested in belly style rifle shooting (prone) out to 900 yards or so let me know. There are three of us seriously shooting now but we would like to have a few more to make it interesting. We get together once a month or so, shoot a "match" and then eat. Rough range but nobody bothers us. We shoot both steel and paper and the range is located in south Bladen County.

Sighted in a new to me 22 rifle I got for my dad to take care of pesky tree rats eating my step moms plants around their property. I didn’t go to the range just shot in the backyard suppressed so it’s sighted in at 45 yards but he won’t be shooting much further than that anyway.

What ya shooting? Any DOPE you would like to share? I see the notebook in the pic. ;)

That elevation data might need to come down a 1/4.

Thats a legit 1/2 MOA or better rifle.

600yd - 17.5x17.5

Score ring sizes for the peeps.
x-1.2''
10-2.8''
9-5.2''
8-7.6''

I spent all day yesterday rebuilding my backstop. I made an important discovery. The weight of an eight foot treated 6x6 has significantly increased in the last few years. That's probably why I'm sitting here waiting for the Tylenol to kick in before I go shoot today.

Thanks @JBoyette. I'll bring it down 1/4 and try it again sometime this coming week. I need to load some more ammo.

By the way that rifle is a Savage 12 action. 🤣 Chambered in 284 Win. I think one problem is that the load is a bit slow at 2685. I need to work it up another 100 fps while keeping the accuracy and better to fight the wind.

I hit some steel with my cz457, first time taking it out since putting the Timney trigger in. I do need to make some adjustments to my range soon
I've got a 457 with a Timney. One of the things I did yesterday was mow around my 50 yard target stand and bench rest.

Mowed to the 300 yard line and then hit a wet spot with the ATV and that was as far as I got. I guess it's time to pull out the herbicide. I have three hundred yards of muck and then it's good to 900.

It is. Gotta be a member and qualify to get on it. It’s a separate range/bay with steel at 6-7-8-900 and 1k.
All steel and no paper? I'm a member at Colemans Creek and it's steel only past 100 yards. I wish there was an area for paper targets to see how your rifle groups at longer ranges.

I use a piece of cardboard cut out in a 1 or 2 moa circle and a can of black spray paint. Not sure if that is allowed on a public-pay as you go range? I have volunteered to paint steel on a public range one time as they were so rusted and so shot up that all you could see was movement and hear the "whop". It's not perfect with the painted circle but you can shoot a group and then take a pic for scoring later on. Just take a ruler to measure an inch for the pic. Sometimes you just got to improvise. ;)

You can't go down range period, except for the 100 yard or less bays. I think they paint the targets once or twice a week, so unless you happen to be there just after they paint the targets, that's out.
