What idiot thought it was a good idea

If itā€™s a Ford, I believe that feature can be disabled in Forscan. And, there are aftermarket devices that do the same.

Itā€™s about priorities. When mpgā€™s are more important than reliability and dependability.

I eventually got used to it in my BMW but I still found it annoying. It had a button to turn it off, but of course they make it default to ā€œonā€ every time you turn on the car.

It is a 2020 linclon nautilus. The auto brake features and the lane maintainer can be shut off without resetting each key off but not this function. Pain in the butt.

My wifeā€™s highlander has it. Weā€™re back and forth to see our child in the NICU in Wilmington everyday and itā€™s not the thing for 90+ degree heat in July when the car hasnā€™t cooled down yet. I despise it but havenā€™t dug into possibly turning it off.

Man ā€¦ those early 70ā€™s cars and trucks with very few ā€œoptionsā€ ā€¦ maybe just a/c, power brakes and a few other others ā€¦ are looking better and better. Best thing is 90% of the maintenance does not require computer hookups and fancy tools ā€¦ just a decent socket/wrench set, a couple screw drivers and a 6-pack.

I know Jeep will not shut off if the heat or a/c hasn't reached temp yet or if it heats or cools off to much.

You can thank your government for this, the woke desire to improve fuel economy.
Depending on the traffic situation, you can save 5-10% or more on gas when using the feature. Battery and starters are beefed up to do this.

Could probably do that and more by better timing on stop lights, systems that identify and adapt better to traffic flow and getting rid of stop signs where a yield sign would be better.

I hate that crap!
Wife's Subaru has it. There's a button on the dash to disable it, but you have to hit it every time you start it.

Some ford's can be disabled by it thinking a trailer is attached and lights plugged in. I have an adapter that has tiny leds on it. It keeps it from shutting down on a friend's truck.

The only thing dumber than this is a NCDOT traffic engineer. You can't even cross a divided highway without turning right and jumping over into the fast lane, Then having to do a U-turn. Someone told me that they built these things because people are too stupid to look both ways and cross a road. And then having a vehicle that turns off and on! We are beyond help.

Just go early 90s Japanese vehicle - could have good hp, solid mpg, as well as many of the options that we all enjoy

Also, Ive never had a car with start stop or whatever, what do you all not like about it?
I agree with Dan, seems like a lot of wear on the battery and starter, but didnt know if there were other things that the hive didnt enjoy

While they are solid vehicles and damn good they have electronic controlled systems on them. I am talking mechanical systems only that make since to my simple brain and it can comprehend. That are pre-EPA emissions type stuff where the engine is not choked or controlled by a stupid POS valve or whatnot. I can deal with the old stuff way better because I can actually see parts, components and such. The 90ā€™s stuff still has components I couldnā€™t open up on a work bench and deal with to easily.

Same with Ford. If it shuts off but if the HVAC canā€™t maintain the set temperature, the engine starts up.

Bought a tuner for my Jeep that disabled it.....my wife hated that function yes you can disable it but it resets every key cycle.
Where did you source the tuner for your Jeep? I have a Gladiator and thought I love it, hate the cut-off feature!

Search for Jeep auto stop eliminator.

It's probably not worth the extra strain on the charging and starting system to save the small amounts of fuel consumed while idling at a stop light.

Even if the battery and starter are allegedly beefed up to withstand the extra stress, I don't need my car failing to restart for some reason while in the left turn lane on a busy highway or in some remote location. Once my car is running, it stays running until I don't need it anymore.

I'm really wanting to have a supercharged 392 dropped in my Gadiator!!!

wife's 2016 cruze has it
I tend to not really stop much, and I slow roll through lights and stop signs. makes for a very jerky ride when the car stops idling forward and my braking stops the car cold, then it restarts as i let off the brake.
I absolutely hate it

Honestly, I'm looking at late 80s station wagons at this point. I read an article about how one car i used to have has a weak engine and has trouble maintaining 55. I can guarantee you that mine could bury the needle above 110 and hold. i had that thing in the air a few times, ripped the fender off another car and only chipped my tail light. i miss that car.

When I used to work for Dodge/Jeep a customer that had a Wrangler disabled his by disconnecting his hood switch. He told me that the " Hood open" indicator stays on but it stopped it from shutting off. Maybe the vehicle thinks its being worked on and disables that feature ?

Chasing Cafe stuff. No the manufacturer didn't want to do it. You should be able to disable it. If you don't wanna do anything not stock all the ones I've seen have a button to press that'll turn it off until next start up.
