What idiot thought it was a good idea

It’s not a good idea any way I look at it in my opinion, especially if the engine is turbocharged.

My wife’s highlander has it. We’re back and forth to see our child in the NICU in Wilmington everyday and it’s not the thing for 90+ degree heat in July when the car hasn’t cooled down yet. I despise it but haven’t dug into possibly turning it off.
My wife has the Highlander as well. If you don’t ‘tromp’ the brake petal and are gentle the shut off function does not engage. It does take some right foot training for it to be consistent. Good luck.

Nothing like hot stagnant oil baking in a turbo.

Yep. Especially when you just came off the interstate onto a short exit ramp to a stoplight with the turbocharger(s) still spinning at 120,000 rpm.

I would hope that the engineers that designed those systems would have had the forethought to design and/or install some sort of auxiliary oiler for those instances but I’m sure it got over looked/priced out of the equation by the bean counters.

When I used to work for Dodge/Jeep a customer that had a Wrangler disabled his by disconnecting his hood switch. He told me that the " Hood open" indicator stays on but it stopped it from shutting off. Maybe the vehicle thinks its being worked on and disables that feature ?
Remote start is disabled with that also...
