what semi-auto handgun in .22LR do you use? like?

Beretta 71 with the Sparrow SS
A great pistol!

Here's my Model 75

Man, all these .22s with 100% function/no malfunctions/never jam and work with every ammo....

I've just been living wrong I guess. I get weak loads, duds, extraction failures, feed failures, etc in all of my 22s at one point or another. Had a FTF just this morning in fact.
Very true. I said functions well for a couple of the reasons you mentioned. The key is operator input … fined the best functioning ammo and properly maintain your firearm (same goes for any firearm). The rimfires are more “needy” on this to function a peak performance especially when screwing a can on the end. I will say 99% of my “occasional” rimfire malfunctions are ammo related … failure to fire … the others being feeding mostly when I have carbon or leading building up because I’ve been neglectful. The above reasons are why I steer people away from rimfire SD guns outside of possibly revolvers.

I'm a rimfire snob but in a good way, I enjoy my Ruger Hunter and several other makes and models from Beretta, S&W, Sig, Taurus and KelTec. I run my SilencrCo Sparrow on most of them.

Taurus with a supressor for fun, Nighthawk 22 conversion on a 1911 frame for target. Made the mistake of selling off an old High Standard Military model years ago, wish I had that trigger back.
I had a 30s vintage Colt Woodsman with a superb trigger that got an Armscorp squib bullet stuck in the barrel and the following bullet bulged the barrel. I got a buyout from unnamed parties but lost the Woodsman sadly.

Old ones...oh yeah.
Old High Standard Victor, Trophy and an old Colt Ace.
oops noticed some one mentioned Ciener.. yep works good also

looks like not many use old guns. However, they are real joy to shoot. Woodsman 2nd series (1951)

Those all seem to have the same problem…no threaded barrel. 🤔

The most beloved handgun in the entire place is my SW22-A, which is the poor mans Model 41. Paid $200 used, bought 4 extra mags so I can run an entire box of CCI SV at once, and hung a TRS-25 RDS on top. It makes easy hits on 6" IDPA steel targets at 75+ yards all day long

.22s are great because, so long as they run, they’re all typically capable of great accuracy. I’ve shot several 280+ NMCs with a stock new-production Browning Buckmark, of all things. The weak points with most new .22s are triggers and lighter construction overall.

The problem with many of the older guns is springs and magazines. Won’t stop me from buying them, but it usually stops me from taking them to a 2700. You only get so many allowed alibis…

Have a Marvel Unit 1 Heavy Rib coming in early December… very eager to see how it scores once I’ve finished cleaning up the lower’s trigger. Would love to break 290, and the trigger and added weight should help.

Taurus TX22 has never failed to fire for me yet no matter what ammo I'm using. Ruger Mark IV 22/45 (favorite) has been 99%. I could also mention the S&W M&P 15-22 pistol...

None are as fancy as a Woodsman or Hunter but they do go bang.
TX22 for me too. I had my first malfunctions recently after a few thousand rounds (many suppressed). I think it was just bad ammo out my "odds and ends" .22 stash.

I was surprised that a .22LR conversion kit worked 100% on a Beretta 92A1.

I've been casually looking one for my M9 but they've been unobtanium for the past couple of years. I'm hoping that Beretta gets them back in stock in time for Black Friday sales.

S&W M&P 22 Compact handles most of the farm chores (that a .22 pistol can handle).

I can't recall a single malfunction over the past 5 or 6 years of owning it.

However, I've only fired maybe 500-600 rounds through it total.

ALL rounds fired were CCI SV and ONLY CCI SV.

I've killed several critters in the dark with that little gun. Oddly enough, the 2 or 3 times when I've used it to try and take a squirrel of opportunity during the daylight I've always failed to connect. Maybe I've got the element of surprise at night. The predatory critters just ain't expecting that fat boy to pop up in hail of lumens like a trailer park version of the avenging angel.

Truth be told it's nowhere nearly as accurate as any of the older/bigger/metal guns. I can usually manage to hit a squirrel more often than not with my old 22/45 Ruger.

But the M&P is easier to carry. More utilitarian, and I can be "meaner" to it and not feel bad about it.

It often rides mounted to my 4 wheeler and I'll bring it back in with mud splashed on it and just put it back in the rack until I need it again. Sometimes it will sit there in that condition for a week or two. Then @Studentofthegun will stop by to hang out. If you watch really closely, you'll see his eyes slip over it and his hand start twitching. Next thing you know he has it broke down and is cleaning it while mumbling under his breath about how big of a redneck I am with my tools.

One of the weirder quirks for me, is that I had both the full size and the compact. Got rid of the full size after a while.
It didn't really seem to malfunction with the CCI SV any more than the Compact did.
But it just felt "loose" compared to the Compact. I can't quantify that. I just like the feel of the Compact better.

So the S&W M&P 22 Compact is the one I "use" the most. That is what the OP asked.

Is it the one I "like" the most? Heck no. It's just a useful, soulless piece of plastic and aluminum.

If for some weird reason my life depended on gathering food with a semiautomatic handgun in .22, my pick would the Ruger 22/25 with iron sights.

As far as .22 pistols I "like", I think I'd like to have a Colt Woodsman or a High Standard Dura Matic or something in that vein. But never had either.

I respect the S&W 41 for what it is, and I know it's not exactly what the OP asked, but I just can't see me carrying one for woods duty.

…Try a few different brands. …

This ^that^ is precisely what my wife set out to do yesterday, with 3 of her 22LR semi-autos.
She did so for a reference “cheat sheet” to keep on her phone when packing ahead of a range trip and to streamline time spent on the firing line.
I was sorta taken aback by the different performance of the same round, thru different pistols …

Here are her notes:

Ruger LCP-II 22LR
Likes: CCI Mini Mag HP 1260 fps; CCI Std Vel.; CCI Mini Mag copper round nose; & Remington & Federal bulk pack lead round points

NO GO!:
NO Federal “Personal Punch!” (won’t cycle slide) and
NO CCI “Velocitor” (won’t feed, nose dives into feed ramp)

S&W M&P Compact 22LR

Likes:
- Federal bulk ok (shot more of this than any other Ammo, this range session)
- CCI Std Velocity: 100% reliable
- Norma TAC-22: 100% reliable
- CCI “Velocitors”: 100% reliable
- CCI “Mini Mag” Solid points ok

XXX - NO CCI “Quiet” in sw m&p 22 compact …
XXX - NO Fed “Personal Punch” in sw m&p 22 compact

Glock 44 (22LR)

Federal Personal Punch (flawless)
Federal Range Bulk Pack (flawless) (shot more of this than any other Ammo, this range session)

What a positively, incredibly delightful weather day to be outside, let alone rimfire shooting!!!!

Wow! That is awesome. You are a lucky man my friend.

My Glock 44 is reliable and a good shooter. However, my Kel-Tec P-17 is fun to shoot, accurate, eats any ammo I put in it, good trigger, bigger magazine capacity than the G44.

I recently bought one of the new FN 502's on a whim when Academy had one (just one) in stock. I've fired several hundred rounds through it and have run one steel match. I like it. Only thing I don't like is the black on black sights. I liked it enough that I bought a second 15 round mag for it. I've had a Mark II government, Mark IV target, Taurus 22 revovler, and a bunch of 22 rifles. Occasionally, I'll shoot the Ruger GP 100 22lr in a match or to tune up my revolver skills. Anxiously awaiting the new Colt 10shot 22 revolver. Have been looking at the Sig 322's and the Glock 44......

It's a problem (more want that money)....LOL.

So I've had an automatic search on GB for the Beretta 92 .22LR Conversion Kit for the past year plus, and have probably only seen a couple pass through. There have been plenty of mags and threaded barrels, though.

I got the notification email again this morning, again with plenty of mags and barrels, but buried in the list was one complete kit with an opening bid of $280 and a BIN of $299. Not a great deal or a terrible one, until I opened my eyes and noticed that it came with both standard and threaded barrels, and 3 additional new 15rd magazines. Assuming shipping goes well, it looks like I may have a new semi auto .22LR to like.

My favorite is a MKIII with a Volquartzen MKII firing group that eliminated the magazine disconnect.

One of my favorites also. I remember reading about you getting it threaded. I need to send mine off for the same treatment. Could you share where you had the work done?

MKIII Hunter (need to thread barrel)
MKIV 22/45 Lite (suppressor host)
SP01 with Kadet kit (need to thread barrel)

"which do I use?" this is a really tough question, as there are seven here ... they all get used!

but of course some more often than others ... each has a different purpose

two are my wife's, so I hardly ever use those unless I have been asked to adjust something

Which do I like? wow ... every one has a personality

the Volquartsen 6" LLV over a Tandemkross Kraken vs the S&W 41 PC vs the Mark IV Target vs the SR22 4.5" threaded custom ...

... I like them all, they are like women you are friends with, you can't have one favorite

Actually 3, first is an old Bearcat my dad bought way way back and the first gun I ever fired. Second is the first gun I bought which was a Sterling Arms .22 thats 40+ years old now.

The third is a Beretta Neos, 6 inch barrel I bought a while back because they look almost like a phaser and shoot so dayum well.

I really love my S&W Victory that I've modded with almost every Volquartsen and TandemKross part there is. :D Runs very reliably for a 22lr, I can make consistent hits with it on steel targets at 50 yards (6" circle) and 100 yards (C-zone IPSC) from the draw with very quick times on each, and the <2lb trigger pull on it is lightning fast for followup shots. It's an absolute champ, and while it was frustrating getting it to this point (all of the OEM internals got wore out from how much this gun has been shot!), it was worth every bit of effort to get here. :)

This and its rifle compatriot, my S&W M&P 15-22 that I've similarly modified with Volquartsen, TK, Geissele/LaRue and Radian parts, are my two most-fired guns by a long shot. The numbers aren't even close lol. I almost always have these two with me at the range. It's great practice, cheap training, and they're just plain fun to shoot.
