Had some time to kill yesterday before going in to work for a bit so I stopped by Hyatts in Charlotte . I dont think Ive ever bought anything there as their prices are always on the high side of ridiculous but I noticed they had .22lr on the shelf and at first I thought well, things must be getting better Nope. CCI standard velocity for $20 a box of 50. Yeah, the $4 stuff.

That was probably their price before the shortage too.
That being said I've never bought a firearm from them but he did work out a deal on ,451 lead rdn where if I bought in bulk it worked out to 30.00 per 500

.223 Tulammo, the junk stuff, $18 for 20 at Wild Indian Gun Store in Goldsboro yesterday. I'm not blaming him for it, as I don't know what it cost him. But at least he had all you wanted.

Gouging isn't possible for ammo. It is a choice to buy it. Supply and demand sets the price, and demand is voluntary.
If you have a monopoly on water in the desert you can price gouge.
I haven't watched that video - no idea if that is what he is saying or he is actually on the other side.

I’d like to give a flowery decent along the lines of something @tanstaafl72555 would but I just lack the patience.
I don’t know who this guy is but I’m sure he’s in the know, just look at that scruffy beard, right, it screams “I know things”.

If he thinks there is no gouging going on then he is living in some other country than the US of A.

Oh boy a video made by a market analyst who works the counter at a gun shop. All you gotta do is stop buying product and everything gets better. Wow he is so smart. Harvard grad I’m sure. I guess we will try that no buy theory when gas goes to $3.50 this summer.

He doesn't say that. more like 'its not possible to price gouge ammo'. and 'those crazy high prices are normal... and a good thing'.

Gouging and market adjustment look the same from where I'm sitting. I'm not willing to pay the asking price for it either way. I also don't feel a need to judge because what does that get me?

He says it's not gouging, and I say what does it matter?

He's likely waiting in line at Academy amd getting a few of his buddies to do the same. I've done it a few times, and each time quite a few of the guys up front say they either work at gun shops or gun shows.

So they're buying it at "regular" price and then having to mark it up.

Fuquay gun has a listing on gunbroker for federal 223 bulk pack ammo for $1199.99per 1000. if that isn't gouging I don't know what is . He swears he doesn't gouge but that is in my opinion
Yeah I've got half a mind to sell off a few thousand rounds of 300 BO factory ammo before the market collapses. I've got enough components to load a couple thou more.

I'm on the fence. I'd love to pay off my truck but I don't know how long this will last.

1 year, I can comfortably sell
2 years, might not sell
3+, nope

The latest batch of Federal was priced at $.85 per and sold.

My post is a month old. Some companies may have gone down. It was a $1.20 a round on March the 4,th
Edit: I may or may not have been trying to start an argument last night, being 9:30PM on a Friday, and me being the curmudgeon I tend to be.

But since we are on the topic while this thread is still alive, if on life support...

Price gouging in NC, defined.

Bold print mine.

Price Gouging Complaint

North Carolina’s price gouging law is usually triggered when the state suffers or is threatened by a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, winter storm or flooding. Price gouging—or charging too much in times of crisis—is against North Carolina law when a disaster, an emergency or an abnormal market disruption for critical goods and services is declared or proclaimed by the Governor or a municipality.

Under the law, the Attorney General’s Office can put a stop to price gouging and seek refunds for consumers who paid too much. The courts may also impose civil penalties against price gougers of up to $5,000 for each violation. The law applies to all levels of the supply chain from the manufacturer to the distributor to the retailer.

Consumers have let the Attorney General’s Office know about price gouging in the past, and we have enforced North Carolina’s price gouging law to win thousands of dollars in refunds and penalties from violators.

If someone is buying ammo at these prices, then they are willing to buy ammo at these prices, and therefore there is no gouging. Artichokes are like $3 a piece. I LOVE artichokes. I only seldom buy them but, they are always available when I want them. I bet rich people can buy them.
Is your right to eat artichokes guaranteed in the constitution? This is equivalent to generators selling for $3000 after a storm. There are laws in place to stop that.
