Winter weather??

2 here in Franklin
Phone app says feels like-16, I stepped out to piss in the yard and stare at the stars so I believe the "feels like" .
Didn't stay out there but for just a minute and that was enough, supposed to be 0 at 2AM.

It is currently 66 in the man cave and there is plenty of bourbon. Actually have a couple candles going so it may be 67 or so. No wind or trees down in here.
What's the bourbon of the day down there?

Got some crud in my lungs when I woke up this morning so I ended staying home and avoiding the in laws. This is my treat for the past couple of hours. I might also be about to add the first person to my ignore list ever between this forum and the last one.

Wished all my crew a Merry Christmas and left work at 15:45 , was at Wegmans Cary 6 mins later and bailed 30 mins later with a 10 of what I wanted. What a fricken zoo!

Made it home at 17:45, put on sweats, got some dinner, plopped on the couch.
Was in the car driving to work at 19:30 for Roof Chillers being down and labs getting up to 120 deg.
Long story short... Chiller is locked out on freeze protection below 25 degs.
Jacked around there reporting to lab owners, trying to keep the lab cool.
At 00:25 my wife calls... the master bath water is frozen....
Another long story short... got a space heater pointed thru a foundation vent... all water is on except the sink hot water.... it’s 02:49. Putting this IPad down to check for flow again now.............

I think Smartwool is one of the first brands that came out with them maybe 20 years ago. I had several pairs for hiking. At one point, Costco had the exact same socks minus the smartwool logo. I think I got a 3 or 6 pairs for Christmas for 10 years or so. Still have at least 6 pairs unopened.
From what I can deduct, the Costco socks are smartwool socks just rebranded. I always buy a pack when they have them.

Apparently my water has frozen. Still got a little flow l, but hardly any! My water pipe from my well is supposed to be 4 foot deep. I guess I'll be finding out soon

7:15am in Catawba County and a warm 7°. It’s going to be a fine day for coffee, bagels, and a blanket.

Grandkid twin #1 (because I cannot distinguish who) climbed in the bed with me at 6:15am. When I woke up someone had changed the heat and it felt like a pottery kiln upstairs.

Maybe not soon sir. It’s not like there is a going to be much of a temp change. But you may have to get a poop bucket from @kcult.

Welp, less than 6 month old heat pump died in the middle of the night. "Emergency number" for the installer is disconnected. I love this time of year.
I didn't think heat pumps worked much below 40 degrees anyways.

When we moved into this new house four years ago the hvac wasn’t properly set up to switch from heat pump to gas at 40 degrees like it was supposed to. Only we didn’t know it.

We had some high twenty degree weather one weekend the first December. Got down to 27 and the house stayed comfortable at 72. That heat pump did make some odd noises though, which was my first clue. I manually set it to “em heat” after that, got it fixed the next week and I only run gas in the winter now due to some early compressor failures I’ve observed with the neighbor’s same age Trane units.

They tried to tell me it’s more efficient to run the heat pump down to 40. I figure not if that additional mileage causes an early failure that will be on my dime.

Well, I jinxed myself... 6:10 21 degrees. House a toasty 68. Thought to my self - looks like we're good.

6:32 - power off.

Now 7:49; kerosene heater running; hurricane lamps on; coffee brewing courtesy of the gas stove.

Next time I keep my big mouth shut.

Lol

Just hope daughters water did not freeze again.
Our little "bathhouse cabin" here in SC has never experienced frozen water before. It's built on stilts, with only one side underpinned.
4 Heat strips on the water lines plus insulation.
The hot water line to the bath sink froze yesterday, cold line to the toilet froze last night. C
Checked the heat strips and found that the GF outlet that fed two of the heaters had tripped.
Reset that last night but the lines are still frozen this morning....can feel the heat from the strips but they are not FULL coverage.

The house down here is still GTG....even though we do have an exterior mounted on-demand gas water heater. I did install a freeze kit on it which basically just closes the feed line and dumps the unit to prevent freeze damage.

Headed to work on this beautiful Xmas Eve morning. I don’t even want to look and see what the actual temp is it may as be 0 it’s freaking cold.
