Anybody prepping for the storms in the Atlantic?

Never forget that bastard. And this one looks like its gonna come in straighter. Some of you are probably too young to remember. Git yer shit together...............

I was almost 1 year old when that hit. My parents said we didn't have power for 2 weeks. My mom heated my food with a candle. They still don't have food and water for more than 3 days....

We may have lost power for a few hours with Hugo but, the tornados spawned by that storm leveled trees and buildings within 1/4 mile of our house.

I took the kids to school that morning and had to turn around and pick them up a few hours later.

I was killing time while kids were in Sunday school at Lowe's. They're largely sold out of generators, 5 gallon gas cans and chainsaws.

The employees were joking with me that they run a generator loaner program... They sell out before the storm then return them all if the storm passes us by...

I need to top off both of my 14gal gas cans and our vehicles. I have propane for cooking, but I don't know how much. I might pick up another tank.

If the power goes out, I plan to plug the camper into the generator for the A/C and the mini fridge. The camper has propane, so a hot shower will still be possible.

I'll also run a drop cord from my chest freezer to the generator. Gotta save that deer meat! Since the freezer is only about half full, I also plan to hit up the local ice vending machine for a few bags of ice to put in it.

I checked my inventory:
Coffee
Tequila in freezer
Jack Black in cabinet
Sausage
Bacon
Eggs
1 loaf of bread
Couple cans of beans
Several ways to cook out side
Guns, ammo
I'm set

Pretty far inland, but the power likes to go out and trees sometimes fall.
Has generator, chainsaw, gas, relatively full pantry, camp stove, propane, and water because I work for a municipality and have seen back-up gens fail, and know if reservoir/river turbidity is too bad the flow can be stopped. Pretty much everything we might need for a while just business as usual.

From the National Hurricane center 11:00am Sunday: FLORENCE FORECAST TO RAPIDLY INTENSIFY INTO A MAJOR HURRICANE BY MONDAY

The only thing I am always stocked up on is ammo. Factory and handrolled. Always got lots. Priorities and all that. I don't sleep more than 6 hrs at a stretch. I wake up sometimes at 2 or 3 in the am and make ammo and then go back to sleep.

I was still living in Mooresville back then and never really believed it would come in that far and cause so much damage. I worked at the CLT airport and they wanted us at work, so I finally got there and they sent us home.....

Generator started on the first pull, propane is stocked up, gas cans just rotated, pantry is full and i have a weeks drinking water. I think I am gtg.

Got the generator going earlier today. Need to fill the vehicles and the gas cans this week. Got plenty of water, food, ways to cook, and ways to purify more water. We are good here.

I think I am too far in (Jamestown/greensboro) to worry about it but still filled up gas cans and revved up Generator. Hope you all on the coast stay safe

Do you have any problems with them busting when they freeze?
No had none burst but that is a possibility, we freeze them at work and keep the outside cooler stocked for our staff.

Had nearly 4ft of water in my home after Matthew. Depending on how its looking in the coming week, I'm ready to bug out and hide out in the mountains until this thing passes.

Hugo was a beast. In SC we lost 70% of our forests.

We were out of water for a week and a half. Out of power for 3 weeks and out of school for almost a month because the school was used to house people.

My parents house had 22 trees before the storm. Four were left the next morning.

I stay pretty well prepared for most disasters. Only thing I need to get is comfort stuff.

As it turns out...yes, I'm prepping.

I may be going out to sea as early as Monday on the CVN-77.

This remains to be seen on the details, however.

(It's for an engineering inspection.)

I don't fill them all the way, leave a little room then squeeze the air gap out as you put the cap on, gives the contents room to expand.

I read it as he puts new water bottles in the freezer. Not refilled bottles.

I have four cases of water and I have room in my chest freezer for one.

If I can put a case of new water bottles in the freezer without worrying they'll bust, that's what I want to do.

Throw one bottle in as a test right now?

I have not had any burst when putting new water bottles into the freezer.

It'll never freeze because I'll keep opening the lid to take a peek.

A watched bottle never freezes. Ain't that what they say?

Called my Mom this morning in Murrells Inlet and told her to pack a bag and get on with it tomorrow. Here or Charlotte with my sister, either is fine with me. She said she was waiting to see what her neighborhood HOA and neighbors were saying. Refer back to first sentence! Leaving there on a typical Sunday frickin' sucks, can't imagine what it would be like if they call a mandatory evacuation.

We're good to go here for several days.

Don't take chances on storms with this track. It may dead head the eye before it gets to you but as mentioned above you may get heavy wind, tornados, rain up to your butt. Power and cell towers get FUBAR'd.

Look up Hurricanes Hazel and Hugo. You don't have to score a direct hit. I'm getting too old for this shit.........................

I hope they’re wrong. When the eastern parts of NC mad SC flooded last it took months and months to clean up. Kinda like the tornado in Greensboro, 5 months later and there’s still a mess

Yeah, @Brangus can tell you Rob Co took a bad hit with Matthew and the flooding.
We lost a couple trees etc, but the worst we had was no power and water for 8 days.
This time a couple days worth of gas for the genny, truck topped off, 275 gal tote topped off and I might fill another for fun.
Only use propane for the stove, so we can use a camp stove if necessary, have a 20lb tank plus some littles too.

Yeah, last ice storm we had hit us hard. I’m 100% more prepared now than i was for that. Few days worth of generator gas, though we’ll only run it every few hours to keep freezer cold. And I have a source for used 20lb propane tanks. Get the tanks free, then spend $12-13 to have them filled. My grill will fall apart before I run outta propane

I could use another tank for my griddle and grill.

All of our vehicles are topped off and I fired up the generator earlier. I just filled both of my 14gal gas cans. I plan to use it to run the A/C and fridge in my camper and keep my freezer plugged in. I'm curious how long 28 gallons of gas will last with those things plugged into it.

170 miles left on the tank, I'll fill her back up in the next day or two (450+ on a tank)
I ended up buying extra canned goods today at the store.

Never say never. Hugo and Fran were two that downed trees here and took power. I was a kid and remember them both

You were right at the intersection of those two paths. Hugo affected my parents in Charlotte, but not us in RTP. And Fran vice versa.

I think you only have to run them intermittently for the fridge and freezer if you keep them closed. Go to the googles and see if there is a consensus on how long you can shut down between cycles.

This. Run the generator for an hour about every 4-5 hours.

They are all buying bread. It's gonna be a long week starting tomorrow night. We are sending 5 tractor trailer loads to Goldsboro, they normally get 2 or less a day. I'm gonna sleep in, gonna be a long night. Don't think I'm getting any extra, but production is going to be so far behind I won't be going anywhere till late.
