1994….What a time to be alive

That's about the time I bought my first SKS, a nice non-refurbed Russian model. They were gonna ban "Assault Rifles" and I just had to have one. The prices had doubled in the past week so I had to pay a whopping $169 for it. Now I wish I'd bought the store out of 'em.

1994... My eldest graduated High School. My ex was fighting property split and custody. It was a terrible year. And because of the turmoil, I had no $ to expand my collection.

I was 8……
Me too!

Loved looking through magazines and such my Brothers and uncles had laying around.... growing up Id look through those and dream about the cool stuff Id certainly get when I grew up.

I guess I never grew up, because I never got much of that stuff 😆

More millennials here than I would have guessed.

Those prices aren't really that good compared to 2005 or so. Talk about a really good time. And 2010-2012, another golden era.

I most definitely do *NOT* consider myself a millennial <_< I dont care who says I am.

One of my older cousins was cleaning out some of her husbands things and sent me this, along with some other neat stuff….man, makes you pure sick

Oh man, you ain’t kidding! In 1994 I was 34yoa and transitioning from competitive bullseye pistol and highpower rifle to uspsa and ppc … how could I have not grabbed one of those tankers? Or, a case of 9mm for <$90?!!!!

(To my credit I was following my Dads advice and buying a case of ammo every pay check - I’m in high cotton for the rest of my for taking THAT advice!)

But, HERE’s the real rub: THAT WAS 28 YEARS AGO so …

WHAT “Neat Stuff” CAN EACH OF US BUY - TODAY - THAT PATRIOTS IN THE YEAR 2050 WILL BE LOOKING BACK ON AND SAYING THE PRICES PAID IN 2022 … “….man, makes you pure sick”

My own answers, and subsequently just some of the things I paid either full or close to full msrp for last year (2021) include:

IMI TS-12
IMI Tavor
Zasatva AK (rifle)
Zasatva AK (pistol)
we won’t even hint at the number of PSA lowers I’ve topped with Delton Ltwt profile MLOK uppers
cz TSO
sig 210 target
Sprgfld Armory socom 16
cz scorps micro and 10”
Galil ace in 556

ill stop there and that’s 1/3 (maybe 1/4) of the list. Couple friends and maybe one family member really questioned, “WTF ARE YOU DOING?!! !!!!!!!!!!!”

im gonna show them those ads you OP’ed cuz, at least part of my answer involves some of my nephew’s and niece’s sons and daughters who’ll be in their late 20’s and early thirties in 2050. I pray also for my grandchildren but, they are doomed to stay behind enemy lines in Md-Stan at least til they’re each 21 and I am not sure they will summons the courage to break away from the head-in-the-sand family there who are too lazy, weak or head-in-the-sand to gtf out of there before all the taxpayers have fled thus leaving only those drawing on the “social services for life“ system the DemonRats have cultivated around every beltway … I have hopes for the granddaughter at least ..,

(they may need lanterns and shovels to access them but, by golly, my intent is that they be able to …!)

I dunno how young I started doing it but, as soon as I catch myself “looking back” I immediately turn it around and try to “see forward” …

awesome thread, btw

Spent all my money on a new Harley instead & focused my efforts on chasing skirts.
Admirable pursuits! I had just sold one and put a “down payment” on the lifetime payment plan on the other five years earlier.

Would have thought the Mosin Snipers would have been even lower all the way back then...

Remodeling our kitchen and when we tore down a wall we found a newspaper from late 70s. First thing i noticed was a page advertising cars. Most expensive car on the page was a gmc jimmy for $9,999 brand new.
I’ve had to replace a mirror, the tailgate and a brake light lens on my 2018 F-350. The tailgate was $6500, the mirror was $2500, and the brake light lense was $1200! My first brand new truck, a 1978 F-100, was a whooping $4700! And I thought that was expensive! A whole $107.00 a month for 48 months! Does that put things into perspective!?

I was a 24 y/o Sergeant in the Army & with Uncle Sugar takin' all the fun outta shootin', I was both oblivious to & not too interested in the shooting scene. Spent all my money on a new Harley instead & focused my efforts on chasing skirts.
I was a 34 year old SSG, with 2 kids and a wife that made more money than I did! ( She STILL does.)

I was 28 & started buying.
Clinton’s death tax made my grandfathers’s 2,200ac ranch in Sonoma Co, CA (wine country) go away. My POS uncle stole the funds out from the rest of the family. 1/3 of it was supposed to be mine.
Thieving marxists.

94..dang.. was 16, buying cds and nirvana bootlegs at 2nd ave records in PDX as quickly as I could save my lunch money to afford that stuff.

5 years would pass before my first gun purchase..a NIB Norinco SKS for $140 amd cases of cheap Wolf to blast in the woods outside of town.

I miss the 90s.

Yep. :) Not all of us live on Instagram and TikTok. Some actually still like the format and exchange of information that take place on this style of web forum.

I'm what they call a geriatric millennial. And TikTok is for Gen Z.

Same, but we aren't allowed to enjoy anything from our generation. I didn't get into guns until 2013ish so I missed all of the good deals.

1994-1995.

The confluence of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the magic 50 yr date allowing C&R purchases. It was a magical time that is unlikely to be repeated. The flood gates of WWII surplus began opening.

The 3-fer $100 Mosins. The 5-fer $100 turkish mausers. $199 Norinco AK47s, dime a round 7.62 - 39, $99 Swedish Mausers. The joy of being on Century's mailing list with a C&R license :)

Makes me sick. I was born in May of 94. Market has been ridiculous since I've gotten into firearms. Hard making up for lost time because my dad isn't into collecting or sport shooting. Just chasing white tail.

I was on Facebook, but I was zucked so now this is my "social media" there's quite a few of us babies hiding around on this forum.

1994 assigned to 1/5th SFGA at Ft Campbell Ky. Opened carried in Ky, (no concealed carry yet), TN concealed carry allowed only in the county you resided in. Went to Group Sniper Course and 3 months to Kuwait in the summer. Dive Requal in Fort Walton Beach FL. Just sold my Freshour Tejas .50 BMG bolt action rifle.

CD

Looking to the future is interesting, one buddy of mine is stocking up on form 1 and form 4 NFA items because he thinks sbrs and suppressors will be banned and grandfathered in like full autos.

Another buddy has stocked up on baketlites and has been searching for more "cheap" import AKs.

I've just been buying stuff I enjoy and hoping it doesn't tank in value if I'm really hard up for money and need to sell.

Wot?

Living in the L.A. area I was near FedOrd and Northridge International, both surplus powerhouses. I spent a lot of money at those businesses. My big surplus deals came in the late 80s with mint Finnish M39s, Swedish AG42s, a like new French MAS 44, CZ 52 pistols and even better, all of the armorer bits and pieces for each series of weapons. Of course I sold all of them over the years, all before they really climbed in value!

I was a poor college student. But if I could turn back time I'd have bought every 99.00 Russian SKS that I could lay my hands on. And they were everywhere.
They were everywhere.
I miss the days of buying fishing lures and cheap 22 ammo at Kmart.

No cell phones and no emails...Very small amount of cash in my pocket. Maybe $47 in my bank account, which I managed that to the penny.

Thankfully we had Taco Bell's cheap menu. $2.50 got you a lot of grub.

Probably got half my calories in college (87-91) on Taco Bell? Remember the 6-pak? Six tacos for $3.

Bojangles and Gumbys pizza provided the other half of calorie intake!
