1994….What a time to be alive

Probably got half my calories in college (87-91) on Taco Bell? Remember the 6-pak? Six tacos for $3.
Heck, when I was 19 in 2007 Arby's had 5 for $5 and now you can't get a single sandwich for that.

I was at ODU then and we had Chicho's pizza. Dang that was good pizza. The drunks and stones there hardly ever made it the same twice though.

I remember Arby's 5 for 5! Then there were like 2 sandwiches and the curly fries and not much else.

I had a lotta ok pizza in Greenville, but to me the quintessential college pizza joint was Pepper's Pizza in Chapel Hill. The staff looked like they were doing work release, but damn that was good za.

Chicho's is the only thing I miss from Nahfuk. Pretty sure they used the same amount of dough whether it was a small or extra large. Maybe @RetiredUSNChief has been by there since he runs up that way to the shipyard.

Arby's has had the 5 for 5 with a coupon within the past 5 years. Every month the coupon stack of pages comes in the mail and Arby's are one of the few I clip out. Always makes for an affordable meal for the family. Those days are gone, thanks to our politicians spending our future into oblivion.

My only time at ODU was 1990. There was a conference a group of us from ECU went to. I liked it well enough. The night before our last day the others went "out" (partying), my uncle, who had retired from the Navy after 30 years as a senior chief and was living in Gloucester, picked me up "for a beer". He took me to a bar frequented by retired navy guys and I got ugly hammered. The trip back the next day was horrible.

Considering how much money I make v how much money I made then, guns are far far more affordable now for me. They have gone up in price, but my annual take home has gone up more.

At least, that’s the bright side I’m looking at, anyway.

Word. I make at least 10X what I was making in 1994.

To be fair, I was in college and did a little work at a CD store and some mobile DJ stuff.

Nice. While I was there the Taco Bell had to start closing at 1am instead of 3 because their staff was getting robbed so frequently. A woman also got carjacked and raped on the corner of the campus. That city sucks.

I haven't.

But now that you've mentioned it...

🙃

In 94 I had already been married 14 years.

1994...by this date I had lived through the Northridge earthquake the month before and saw the collapsed freeways and other infrastructure damage. We lived about 15 miles from the center of the earthquake. That was an experience I wouldn't want to go through again. 4 kids, married for 16 years and my job was blowing up as I got caught in the squabble in a family owned business between the parents (owners) and son (president). I thought I was going to be out on my butt with a 6 month old and 3 older kids and a mortgage that I wouldn't be able to pay if I lost the job.

It all worked out but 1994 wasn't my best year.

Fort Campbell around 94'. Last time I remember drawing .30 Cal M2 Ball from the Ammunition Supply Point. Shooting M1s out of the Battalions Arms room and I brought out my Remington 1903 Springfield made in Dec 41'.

ETA following year in 95' would find my ODA and myself in Haiti. Worked on repairing several M1 Garands belonging to the Haitian Police. Most of their ammo was .30 cal AP.

I'll make everyone feel old. When I was growing up, the 90s were only somthing my parents talked about with the phrase "when I was young" seemed like ancient history to me. But man I wish those prices were still around.
