2023 Weight Loss Thread!

At one point early last year I was down to 231. I floated in the 235-240 range for a long time, which was fine with me. I noticed about a month ago that I was having to go up a notch on the belt, so I stepped on the scale for the first time in 6 months. 256! Shit.

If I'm honest with myself I had definitely started to slip back into the old eating habits from when I was 350. Buffets for lunch on work trips, grazing snacks in the evenings, etc. That, combined with the holidays had me putting on a bit. As of this morning, I'm back down to 246. Also trying to get my walking activity back up to 6-7 miles a day.

If I can be back under 240 by May I'll be happy.

Mostly this. I started using MyFitnessPal food/calorie logging app. I quickly realized sugar is a drug. I went through withdrawal when I cut out the junk food.

Instead, I found some high-protein, low-carb foods that I enjoy eating, and I watched my calories. I did not go Keto, just low-er carb. Doing that for a while, paying attention to how I feel after I eat this or that, and tweaking my eating habits a little bit at a time got me to a better place with food and into a totally different mindset: Food is fuel.

Key to success IMO is to not rely on willpower. Make small changes over time and pay attention. Find things you like to eat that will sustain you and won't leave you tired or make you crave more food. It's easy to move toward something you enjoy, and it becomes habit once you do it for a while.
Thankyou for advice! I've just started to try and watch what I eat, bad things is eating healthy is expensive! Probably why Americans are fat and McDonald's food doesn't rot.

What kind of foods?
A lot of meat. And a lot of cooking for myself to keep cost down. my "diet" isn't exactly healthy. it comes from the things I liked to eat already. the system is more important than the specifics. My MD is OK with this for me, talk to yours first.

A typical 1700 cal day:
Sausage and eggs for breakfast with black coffee
Ham&cheese sandwich for lunch
Protein shake mid afternoon
Cheeseburger for dinner (no bun)
also mix in cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries, greek salads, oatmeal, italian sausage, peppers and onions, baked beans, nuts.
bread 1xday max.

ETA: I do I miss french fries. and now I'm hungry.

Good! First few days of kicking the sugar habit will be rough, but worth it. Good luck!!

Not sure I ever jumped in on this or not. I will now.

After the second Vax about killing me I was at 290 late December 2022. I'm 56!
The last year making life changes has really helped me.
So for 2023 and first part of January 24, I hit the 80 pound mark for weight loss. Off a bunch of drugs and doing so much better physically.
How? 🤔
Never stop moving.
Starting with little walking has now turned into 15 miles walks. I also swim.
1.5 hr 5 days a week is my target.
Not eating out but one or so times a month. Even then eating healthier food.
I still eat what I enjoy, but I let my body control it.
Never eating late and never overeating. I like to cook so fresh meat and fish have done me well along with lots of vegetables.

So if this old fat guy can do it! Anyone can!

I was a tight 44" down to needing a belt on 36"

I hit to 210 mark second week of Jan 2024.
I'm still dropping fat but replacing it with mass.
Staying at the 212 to 214 mark most days.

Just curious what you are doing. I’m doing something very similar. I wind up eating more refined carbs on show weekends when we travel, but it is working in spite of that, albeit slowly. Still, I’m in my fourth year of doing this and am on a downward trend weight wise, upward trend in muscle mass and cardiovascular health. I work out 4-5 days a week. I’ve never stuck to it this long.

@Catfish that’s awesome!

I was on track for going from a peak at 230 to 200 last year until an injury in Nov. and popped back up to 225. Starting to work it down again. As everyone knows, heckmof a lot easier to put it on than take it off!
