AR Rifle pic thread

The bottom one is my sad attempt at making a bargain bin Super Duty with one swipe at a Count Blemula sale and Black Friday. Itā€™s nothing like some of the ones here. Not sure if it counts as ā€œtanodizedā€ or not.

Couldnā€™t find a Geissele barrel so had to settle for a BA performance series. Maybe itā€™ll shoot straight.

Have not decided on an optic yet. One on there is what I had laying around.

Just put together dad's Christmas gift. 16" 300 blackout. Still need to test fire the upper to see what buffer weight is needed and sight in the scope. Cheap sling and scope (I went over on budget) I'll probably upgrade him for father's day. Man already has everything but an AR šŸ¤£.

How did you create the pattern? What did you use to mask the colors away from where you wanted it?
To make the stencil I took a piece of printer paper and a razor and cut out 3 shapes. One looked like a skinny banana shape about 5 inches long. Another was a ā€œSā€ shape and the other was a just a random ā€œcamoā€ shape.

Painted the whole gun fde or light brown then just started using the stencils. Donā€™t worry about messing up. This gun has a few paint jobs on it and works great. The more I carry it around the better it looks.

I held the stencils pretty close when painting and when I was done with them, I held the can of green paint a foot or two away and sprayed the whole thing very lightly to ā€œbring it togetherā€.

Itā€™s a lot easier than you think. Iā€™ve painted several guns and only have one or two with no paint. Just give it a try and if you donā€™t like it you donā€™t have to strip it off before you paint it again.

I used fronds, netting from a lacrosse stick and pine straw for mine. If you want natural patterns use natural materials. Looks yellower inside than outdide. View attachment 562024
Whereā€™d you find a lacrosse stick in nature? šŸ¤«

Something that nice deserves a parts rundown...
Itā€™s really basic. Started as an older but unfired DPMS with a fixed A2 upper. Swapped the HBAR for a pencil 14.7 from Ballistic Advantage. Mid length gas.
The handguard, CAR15 stock, and buffer tube (was commercial size) are surplus of unknown brand.
I got the non-F .625 FSB from Retro Rifles. I shaved and threaded it, itā€™s not pinned but I dimpled the barrel.
Ergo grip that I had because I hate the A2 grip, although it would look better.
Thatā€™s about it, the stock trigger was so good that I am not touching it.
Itā€™s light, as short as legally possible with a P&W A2 flash hider, and soft shooting.

Good looking build! How hard was that fixed A2 upper to find? It took me a year or better to score that Colt A1 fixed upper, and the A2s were rare as hens teeth, too.

Ahh I read it again and saw that it was part of your original DPMS. My bad. They really are hard to find nowadays.

I lucked out. A local police department turned them in and I picked it up really cheaply.

Not sure if I posted this since I moved the Schmidt & Bender over.

This pics makes them look similar, but how much longer does the LOP feel on the Hellion? They just seem longer than a bullpup needs to be.

They definitely are longer than necessary with the stock extended. I'm 6'3" with emaciated ape arms, and still prefer to shoot this thing in its shortest stock position. It's quite a cozy gun though - far more comfortable to me than the AUG.

Just put this together tonight! Never mind the flash hiderā€¦ itā€™s just acting as a thread protector until my Dragon shows up.

This was my first FULL build. Iā€™ve made plenty of lowers, but I had never assembled an upper until today. Not nearly as bad as I thought!

Started as an Aero M4E1 anodized ODG stripped lower and upper. Assembled lower with a CMC LPK, Aero enhanced buffer tube, LWRC trigger (thanks @Gnash.Hyena ), and CMC anti-walk pins. Upper has a mid length 16ā€ Ballistic Advantage fluted .223 Wylde barrel, Superlative Arms adjustable gas block, Spikeā€™s melonite gas tube, and an Aero NiB bcg.

Iā€™m digging the ODG and black with silver accents.782C5A3E-B96F-4C96-ACD8-3EE5D4CCA878.jpeg
