AR Rifle pic thread

I meant you can’t choose a different mount when you order the light, always comes standard with picatinny. Still not a bad price even with the extra mount cost.
I wouldn't worry about it. 10% off makes the mount $40. You get the mount you want. The picatinny rail coming with it is just so you have an option to start with. In the end it's only money. Worth it to have the best WML out right now. Just my opinion.

The picatinny only mounting options makes it meh. I’d have to buy an mlok mount and different switch. They look nice though!

I use an Arisaka offset mount for the light and I modded the pressure switch so I could mount direct to the rail (mlock) without having to use a pic rail section.

More of an antique double barrel shotgun fellow, but I do still love Legos. I had this new old stock DPMS upper/lower for sale here when it was still hydro-dipped, with a 20” barrel. No one wanted it and I didn’t feel like giving it away, so I made it into a Dissipator.

16” barrel, rifle length gas system
11 degree target crown
KAC M5 RAS rail
Basic inexpensive parts kits
A2 furniture
Budget 1-6x24 LPVO w/ ARD
KAC USMC rear, modified A2 front
Rugged Razor 762
Magpul bipod

Unsuppressed it’s a single shot. Suppressed it is perfect. Originally the Dissipator was a Vietnam era creation, running suppressed. You can open up the gas hole to run better unsuppressed, but you evidently run the risk of over gassing
when suppressed. Could have used an adjustable, but I wanted to the rail and front sight I had on hand.

@GrnMtn92

That second build is coming along nicely. Just wondering, is that ris2 rail carbine or mid length? I’d like to build a mid length 14.5 fsb upper with extended rail similar to yours. I was hoping to find a 14.25 c4 (mlok) rail but it seems they don’t make them anymore.

Its carbine length. I was hoping for a mid length quad rail for fsb like the ris ii but couldn’t find it. Would be sweet though. Im also partial to the ris ii so I’ll just deal with it being carbine length.

How do you like the special k, been thinking of grabbing one.
I like it a lot. You don’t notice it until you need the angle. We were doing drills the other day and shooting prone, uphill to 500 yards. With a traditional angled grip it would have sucked way worse than it did. It’s also nice for shooting with tall optics.

A true dissipator, nice, and something you don’t see everyday.

Honest question as I don’t know much about AR’s, why not open up the port and tune with buffer weights? It seems like it would allow for a decently quick transition from suppressed to unsuppressed?

You certainly could, but unsuppressed you could end up over gassing it. I’m fine leaving is suppressed all the time.

Got this thing finished yesterday. Ordered an RCO for it but then found a deal on an eotech EXPS 3-0 so it’s rocking that right now. Planning on building a block 1ish m4 for the RCO. Both ARs are 14.5” Pinned and welded.

LMT mars lower
Radian ambi safety
Geissele ssa-e trigger
Reptilia grip
B5 stock
FCD castle but and buffer tube
Sprinco spring
H2 buffer
Colt upper
Bcm bcg
Radian CH
Lmt barrel and gas block
DD RIS II handguard
Surfire four prong muzzle device
KAC micro 200-600 rear flip up
Eotech exps 3-0

Finally have these two buttoned up.

As much as people poke fun at Sig, they really did hit the M400 Tread series out of the park. Decent furniture with grip storage, stainless barrel, stainless mid-length gas block/system, stainless 3 prong flash hider, excellent fit and finish, good trigger as far as the mil spec triggers go. I ended up swapping out the trigger for a CMC, and the handguard has now been replaced with a Samson as the original was heavy for having no pic rail and got very hot due to lack of cooling, and CH is a VLTOR. The accuracy out of this thing with a 16" barrel and good 77 grain ammo really took me by surprise. It has never had a malfunction that wasn't caused by the CMC trigger that had to go in for service right OOTB.

This is the new grab and go - the IWI Zion. I wanted a reliable, lightweight, do-it all 16" AR. I was very impressed at the overall fit and finish, and appreciated some very nice touches at this price point like the take-up screw in the lower. Came with B5 SOPMOD stock and B5 grip. Added the B5 trigger guard and grip plug, Primary Arms 3X microprism with offset Riton red dot, the BCM shorty foregrip, SI charging handle, Odin Works extended mag release, and a Streamlight HLX. Trigger has been swapped for a Wilson Combat LE/Mil drop in trigger. It's a heavy trigger at a little over 5 lbs, but I wanted something a bit heavier for a "duty" gun since I prefer single stage, and I really like that they use a half-cock notch like a 1911 for drop safety. It is VERY crisp, and they've got a great reputation for smacking the bejeezus out of even the hardest primers. Only pain in the butt part with this one was finding an MOS mount that would work with an RMSC/Shield footprint optic. Ended up with one that was for a 407K/507K, but the Holosun's have a wider opening for the rear screws. Ended up having to open the Riton up by one drill size to make it work, but I'm glad I found a use for it now that its no longer on my daily carry. Never had one bit of a trouble with it, but preferred the 6MOA dot on my EDC pistol. I REALLY like the prism/offset red dot combo, and will probably go that route on any future builds.

Shot with dad on Sunday, his 300 blk still running strong and my new 13.7 upper is sighted in and running well. Confirmed hits out to 160 yards, currently his max length for a shot.

Tried my pistol at 100 yards. Only hit 3 times out of 17. I need more practice.

Oof. I did a weigh in on the rifle before and after. It went from a Gen 1 Viper 1-4 and Faxon Pencil to a Gen 2 Viper 1-6 and Criterion Core.

6.9lbs to 7.7lbs. 😯

Interested to hear if your accuracy will be better with the new barrel.

I went from a faxon gunner to a solgw (Roscoe?) Barrel and I have less gas in the face suppressed now.

The Faxon wasn't bad by any means, but yes I am hoping to tighten it up a little.

The chrome on the Criterion is soooo purdy. I was going to cerakote it dark purple but none of the companies I emailed ever got back to me so I said screw it.

Shoot it yet?

I was hoping the 1/8 twist would be a little more accurate with 75’s. Tried a few different manufacturers and they all shot the same 👎🏻. I ended up matching it with some German 56 grain 5.56 MEN. (Enter joke here ____.) Getting MOA with their version of M193 👍🏻👍🏻

This was with a 30 cal can. Waiting for my dedicated 5.56 can to test again.

I have not shot it yet. The twist rate didn't concern me as my CTR, which is 1:8, shoots SMKs very well. We will see.

This rifle will see probably 99% M193.

The new Saint Victor, I've never been a fan of folding sites, so the OEM folders came off. A Troy fixed HK style is the fronts permanent replacement. The carry handle is temporary, I'm thinking either a Troy folding rear (Yeah I know, I'm a hypocrite, but Troy folding rear BUIS are the only folder I trust), or Daniel Defenses A1.5 fixed rear.
