I feel qualified to post to this thread.
I have a big, bombproof, insanely accurate Smith & Wesson 1026. It's my Church Protection concealed carry preference.
I have a wicked accurate Dan Wesson Pointman 7 1911 in 10mm. It's my Alternate Church Protection weapon.
And I have a Smith & Wesson Model 610 4" N Frame revolver that uses full moon clips. I use it to bang steel at 200 yards off hand with factory sights.
I have owned a Buckeye Blackhawk in 10mm/38-40. Loved it, wish I hadn't sold it.
I have owned a first year of production Colt Delta Elite. Loved it, wish I hadn't sold it.
I have owned a Rock Island Full Size Tactical 1911 in 10mm. I sold it after finding the DW PM7.
I have no interest in a Glock, but I can't say why or I will get flamed.
Bottom line is, while 41 Magnum is the Perfect Revolver Cartridge, 10mm is the Perfect Semi-Auto Pistol Cartridge. I love it, and I love every firearm I've shot in 10mm.
About the 1911... Tuner says that 10mm is too much for the 1911 platform. I have no reason to dispute him. If my Dan Wesson isn't up to it, I will wear it out and get another.
About the Delta Elite... it never had frame problems. The little crack was in the tiny bit of frame that they did not cut out over the slide release hole, which JMB did cut out. It was inconsequential, and it was fixed before the first year's production run was even half done.
About commercial ammo... most of it is not as powerful as it should be. I reload, and enjoy full power 10mm in all my firearms.
So, I don't think you can go wrong. The Rock Island full size 1911 10mm is the least expensive way to get into it. I am not sure if I will get another, but I like the EEA Witness Hunters. The Hi Point Carbine in 10mm is tempting, very tempting...
Years ago, a fellow in England converted a 357 Marlin levergun to 10mm... that project is very tempting, but very impractical.
Lemme know if you have any questions!
