@Bullseye Baldee and I went up to Frontline yesterday. He had a 45/70 rifle with a new scope on it. We were trying to figure out the MOA per divisions on the turrets. The turrets don't move the reticle, the turrets actually move the rear of the scope up and down, left and right - very old school! We zeroed at 100 on paper, then moved over to the 500 yard range and worked out to 300 yards. Pretty cool.
I brought my AR with the modified mag (rounds loaded longer than regular mag length) and shot a couple of groups @ 100, which were only about 1 moa, I was hoping for a little better. But, I moved over to the 500 yard range and went straight to the 500 yard target. Luckily, they had just painted the steel so it was easy for me to tell where I was hitting. I put 4 rounds into about a 3" group, just slightly left of center (the wind was blowing slightly from the right) so I was VERY happy with that. Then I went to the 1000 yard range to try shooting a little farther. 600 yards was not a problem, but 700 yards seem to be just a touch outside the capability of me, the gun, and/or the ammo. I only hit the 700 yard target 2 out of 4, and with the ground so wet (and no spotter) I had no idea where the other rounds landed.
The last thing we did was head down to the pistol range. I started by using up some 380 rounds through my LCP. It had not been shot in a while, but it did a decent job. Then we took turns with the 460.
This has become a standard thing for us -
@Bullseye Baldee drives, and I bring my 460 for him to shoot. He thinks he is going to buy that gun from me some day.
Then the new (to me) Beretta 96, which impressed me on how it shot. I did not bother trying the DA trigger pull, though, only SA. Then about 50 rounds of 10mm. We picked up our brass and left (and I actually picked up more 10mm than I shot - always a good thing!)
A bit late, but I took another Brit first-timer to TSA last week. Introduced him to the AR platform, put some more rounds through the R51, and showed him the big muzzle flash from .357 magnum. My buddy was on the lane next to me and let him shoot a Glock 9mm and started him off with a Neos .22.
Awesome. I have a Brit friend as well (former British military) and have taken him out shooting on a few occasions. He just bought his first AR last weekend at the gun show.
And bought his wife (American) her own EDC as well.
