A quality Spanish Iberico ham works too. Harder to find than the Proscuitto di Parma.
Holy Crap! That's expensive but doable. I do have a slicer and vaccum sealer. Sliced, portioned and frozen that would last us about 5 years.
If you go the prosciutto route, don’t cheap out. Try to find authentic Prosciutto di Parma.

That’s the reason my wife won’t eat them. They’re on a list of ~5 things she refuses to eat. I’m waaaay more picky than that.
I love eating them straight off the bush. Next after that, preserves on cream cheese on a pita chip. Then there's peanut butter and fig preserves sandwich...Figs are just good eating by themselves. We’ve got a fig bush, but I haven’t looked at it recently.
Sort of tangential to your question, but I simply love going outside with a hot cup of coffee and going over to pluck some figs, sit down on the porch and eat those figs and sip that coffee before getting ready for work. You have to plant them within 10ft of a structure.Over the past 5 or 6 years, I've planted a fig tree in my yard. None lived. This latest one looks promising.
Maybe I'll finally be able to participate in a fig thread.
