Caught her in between storms yesterday. On a size 12 Prince Nymph. Took my 5wt fly rod for a ride. Hooked into her and she jumped, threw the hook, quickly roll cast right back on top of the spot where I lost her and we hooked right back up.

View attachment 133548 Not a fish, but this manatee was drinking rain water dripping from the drain hole of my boat during some rain about a week ago. This was in the AIW behind Oak Island.
I have seen them several times. I hope they do not get too common because I do not what the AIW to become one long no wake zone. This one only had two prop scars on its back. I do wonder how long you must be at sea to make you think that a manatee looks like a beautiful mermaid.I didn’t realize we had manatee in NC. Cool!
We had a camper set up on a permanent lot at Ocean Isle on the waterway for several yrs. We saw them several times the last couple of years we were there.I have seen them several times. Nice! Caught in NC?
New River, Va Between Fosters Falls and Hwy 100. Caught 2 Muskies in same area, this was the largest.
No live bait. This one was caught on a slaw color spinner with a white grub trailer.
Can’t help with that area but kayak fishing is great. Kayaks can get to a lot of places boats can’t and can be launched almost anywhere. We purchased a couple hobies last year and love them. I’ve got a Jackson big rig I’m wanting to part ways with. It’s great for large guys, I’m 6’3” and about 300. Smaller guys like them to because of their stability.By the looks of your rig you seem to know that river and how to fish it. Might need to pick your brain at some point. Was going to buy a decent kayak, but not really sure what is best for the New. Might hire a guide a time or two just to float and check it out.

This is the one man raft that I usually use on the river during the warm months and sometimes in the cold months using waders. The fish is a Walleye, it was 36 inches and weighed 15 pounds. Caught on a spinner bait on the NR.
The other pictures were from my buddies 3 man raft. It is 15 feet long with a trolling motor.
