perhaps everyone has already seen this and/or perhaps it will be posted here soon, but i'm very happy about it and thought i'd post. now let's hope & pray they can override "Massah" Cooper's veto! 🙏🏼

Grass Roots North Carolina won a major legislative victory today, as Senate Bill 41 – including both the church carry and pistol purchase permit repeal – passed in the NC House by a veto-proof majority. The bill now goes to the anti-gun Governor Roy Cooper, who will likely veto the bill within the 10 days allotted. Said GRNC president Paul Valone:

“In passing Senate Bill 41, today was a great victory for the Second Amendment. GRNC wishes to thank Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore, as well as sponsors and “main movers” of the bill including Sens. Danny Britt; Warren Daniel; and Jim Perry; and Reps. Destin Hall; Jay Adams; Hugh Blackwell; Allen Chesser; Kyle Hall; Bobby Hanig; Kelly Hastings; Neal Jackson; Keith Kidwell; Jeff, McNeely; Ben Moss; Mark Pless; Jason Saine; Carson Smith; plus Democrats who stood courageously: Marvin Lucas, Michael Wray, and Shelly Willingham, and finally the many others whose co-sponsorship and votes who made the victory possible. GRNC particularly thanks our members and supporters, whose thousands of emails and phone calls made this victory inevitable. We are confident that we will over-ride the inevitable veto by anti-freedom Governor Roy Cooper. Very soon, we will release more details of the vicious floor fight waged by Democrats to stop the bill, and the well-managed efforts Republican leadership used to stop it.”

In shocked that three Dems voted for it but with the pressure from Cooper during an over ride I think they will fold and vote against it.
Even if all three were to fold (which is by no means a foregone conclusion), the Republicans would just need to bring the override vote on a day where the Dems have one more member absent than do the Republicans.

reading also Paul Valone's recent newsletter gives some encouragement, in that supposedly even if 2 of the 3 Democrats change their mind, we would apparently only need 1 of them to override, presuming all the Republicans are present for the vote.

I saw this recently and wonder what the possibility of Cooper letting S.B 41 become law without his signature.

Cooper is such a coward. Need a bill to deny any armed security for any elected official who votes for or endorses anything that creates an obstacle to good people exercising their 2A rights. These polls will still be able to carry their own weapons for self defense but may not use state or campaign funds for armed security.

NO DOUBT! but talk about not holding one's breath! ;-)

Anybody know how the timeframe works with this? As in is there a number of days allowed for a veto before it simply becomes law?

"Senate Bill 41 would repeal the state's pistol purchase permit requirement, which tasks sheriffs with issuing permits after checking an applicant's criminal background history and are satisfied they have "good moral character" — which Republicans say is a Jim Crow law."

Reporters can't even get that part correct. the PPP law IS a JIM CROW LAW. It was created to prevent black Americans from exercising their 2A rights.
Also, NC is shall issue. There s no lawful means by which a sheriff can deny a person who has no criminal background, from getting a permit. Sheriff can't just deicde a person fails to meet their arbitrary view of "good morale character." Instead, libtard sheriff use illegal delay tactics.

Yeah it would be Tuesday, the thing that sucks is that last time Cooper waited till the absolute last minute to veto it on the last day so im not keeping my hopes too high.
I had a thought about that. Cooper probably feels backed into a corner by Lt. Governor Robinson.

Think about it. Robinson is a supposed to announce hes running for governor next month, and he's a black man.
Cooper knows if he veto's it, Robinson can campaign that his opponent is protecting Jim Crow laws. But if he signs it, his base will be pissed at him. So, he does the coward thing, and delays.

Great point. Imagine Cooper giving Robinson that ammo!

I hope he vetoes it and Robinson rakes him over the coals, and then it gets passed anyway.

Here is the veto, Cooper stated "Eliminating strong background checks will allow more domestic abusers and other dangerous people to own handguns and reduce law enforcements ability to stop them from committing violent crimes. Second Amendment supporting, responsible gun owners know this will put families and communities at risk." So I guess according to Coopers logic and thinking if you support this bill and support over-ridding his veto your an irresponsible gun owner willing to put families and communities at risk.

As someone who hates both parties (not equally but substantially in both cases) no one has done more to harm families and communities with their grandstanding and political posturing than the democrats and their defund the police movements.

Friday is also the day when politicians traditionally release bad news/news they're embarrassed about. It's statistically less likely to be noticed, as people relax over the weekend.

The Tyrant held off the veto until the last minute because who knows, lightning may strike some Republican dead and then they can’t override. Cooper has nothing to lose by delaying. It’s like how a defense attorney seldom asks to expedite a case; the key witness may die in an unrelated accident or heart attack before trial.

SB 41 vetoed by Cooper today so I guess we need to see if the veto gets over-ridden or will the usual politicians do nothing while proclaiming "at least we tried". https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2023/S41
Look. YOU WILL NOT FIND A MORE SKEPTICAL AND CYNICAL PERSON IN THIS FORUM about politicians, to the point that I have infuriated several good guys with my hateful spew about the "good guys" in this cage fight. (I figure the leftists are such scum they don't need to be addressed)
That said, I do have some respect for Allen Chesser, the sponsor, and general tactician for this bill. I don't think he is perfect, but he is principled. He is NOT the kind of simpwimp who is plotting on how to use this for money raising, but is lining up promised (!... yeah, I know) support, and arranging scheduling and encouraging the crap out of potential defectors with reminders of stuff like it is Coopers last tango, the state is moving "red," and if there is one "red" issue that is popular with the overall populace, it is gun rights (it is even more popular than the right to life movement).
I have a deep deep despair about the overall level of political corruption in the culture, but that does not make me say "nothing can ever be done."
This one may still work.

Welp I guess we can kiss that over-ride goodbye cause this is the exact excuse those three dems are going to use to reverse there vote.
Stop promulgating commie narratives!

This type of event is exactly the reason FOR having armed defenders in churches and schools. It would be irresponsible for the dems NOT to override, because failing to override would be leaving the door open for this to happen at a defenseless church service.

I guess im just a pessimist when it comes to this, I can guarantee it will be brought up when the debate for the over-ride happens and they will hang it over the three dems head if they vote for it.

The only reply from Republicans, besides the obvious "guns are tools that save lives", should be:

"We need to focus on mental health. This shooter was a mentally disturbed girl who was so deranged that she literally thought she was a boy trapped in a girl's body. Maybe if someone had taken her to a therapist instead of encouraging delusional behavior, her violent tendencies would have been noticed and addressed, and those victims would be alive today."

But we don't need to worry about this shooting being brought up in floor debate, because the leftist media will memory-hole it within a couple days, now that the shooter is known to be a tranny.

S.B 41 was over-riden by the senate and now goes to the house. As I predicted the first thing that got brought up was Nashville it might be the event that breaks Democratic support for the over-ride in the house.
