I’ve been renovating the living room lately

First was stripping off the fireplace plain Sheetrock

and putting up some woodwork and new Pennsylvania Bluestone surround.

Yesterday I started on the WO flooring.

Wasted a few hours yesterday going to look at a crap box/ moldy pontoon boat they wanted $5000 to much for.
Hopefully, today I get 3/4 done.

Walled off part of the garage and moved the entry door from the garage to the house. The old door location was in a nook coming from the garage into the house right across from the kitchen. That nook (5'X7') has now been walled off and a barn door installed on the interior side. That nook will now be a walk in pantry right off the kitchen. The new door location connects the garage to a new entryway space that was a coat closet. It's right off the laundry/mud room, and connects to the hallway just down from the kitchen & new pantry. Entryway project is done except for minor details, and pantry is painted, ready for flooring and a cabinet/shelving buildout.

Also, lots of painting done and lots more to do.

I'm installing a spring floor and jiu jitsu mats this weekend. The space is about 14' x 10' with a cutout to get to the door of my office.
I got about half of the frame created last night (had a family birthday party earlier in the day).

I should have the frame, floor and mats installed today. If I'm lucky I'll get the mats on the walls as well.

I'll pop some pics in here later today.

Our 15 year old pool needed resurfacing badly. Best price I could find for someone to do it was $6500. So I did it my self. Took two weeks because the darn rain kept coming. $500 for epoxy two part paint, $50 for Maria tic acid to etch the surface $19 for TSP & simple green soap.

Adding a bathroom and kitchenette to the barn. Tearing off the rest of the roof and adding a higher new metal roof. Also putting in a den area with a 70 inch TV for movies and such. Also adding a 15 foot overhead covering and a new ceramic grill and outdoor table and chairs set. In other words, I’m making a huge ultimate man cave that 400+ feet from the house and the wife won’t walk that far in the dark ! Pouring concrete tomorrow and laying block one day next week. All the junk sitting around goes to the dump.

Sweet!!

Over the weekend I installed a Nest thermostat, Nest doorbell, and the Nest deadbolt. I also finished the installation of my Husqvarna Automower as well, next I need to work on seeding the lot with Bermuda.

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I’d drop this in here. A couple organizing ideas. I like the drilling a jar lid to the underside of a shelf idea.

Fished up the BJJ training area. Spring floor, mats, and wall pads are all installed. I need to do a little routing on the trim pieces and treat them with tung oil, but it’s useable and the boys and I are loving it.

I made wooden shims to keep the mats tight, but removable. The heavy rain we had over the past month warped one of my boards so I had to sand a curve into the joint, but I doubt many will notice. The wife has approved, the boys are stoked, and I’m on to the next project.

Awesome! I have thought about setting up mats down in the barn, but nobody local to roll/train with. That's one of the downsides to living way out in BFE.

What started as a simple dishwasher install - old one quit. After removing the old one , i noticed some of the tiles were a little loose so i pulled up and several tiles were able to be pried up , the subfloor had mold damage in the area and I have pulled up one complete row of 12” tiles
FML
House built in the 70s and subfloor is compressed sawdust plywood. I will have to pull up more tiles in the morning

I'd love to move out to BFE. Finding people to train with, and a good BJJ gym are hard to come by in a rural setting. If you're ever in Charlotte, you're welcome to join us for a roll. Our gym has no drop in fee, just show up and roll.

In the process of moving power from an overhead line to underground to the barn. Mounted the panel this weekend using aluminum extrusion. Definitely could have gone simpler/cheaper, but I love working with this stuff and it allows for adjustment of final position.

Excited for easy access to power at the barn and to be rid of the pole in the middle of the yard.

Roots in the sewer line. Thought I fixed it 12 years ago. So I’m digging a big hole for the second time.

2010:

That boy is now 15 and 6’3”. I’ve gotten down to the depth I need:

The green pipe was my repair attempt last time. Problem is the hole isn’t big enough for me to get down into and work. So the bare spot on the near end is the 15” or so extra I’m gonna start on tomorrow or Tuesday. I feel like I’m using an axe and loppers as much as a shovel.

When I stand down in the bottom, ground level is roughly even with my armpits. What happened was when we had this house built in ‘99, they evidently cracked the pipe at the connection where the horizontal sewer line meets the vertical. So you can see a couple roots coming into the pipe and dropping down.

Uggh.

Sorry. No pics.

House originally had a two car garage underneath. It was, at some point, closed up and finished. A drop ceiling was put in but they didn't do anything for lighting. There were 3- single bulb lights above the drop ceiling with those plastic diffusers.

I put in 6 canless LED lights. It's like daylight in there now

Rebuilt the plumbing in the well house today. The old PVC looks like it got hot/burned at some point, as it was blackened and bubbled in spots. Probably from the little ceramic space heater the previous owners were using. Cut out the old and rebuilt with a tank tee and sediment filter, so much better. Checked the pressure and only read 10 PSI, so charged it up to 38 where it should be. Will probably add some EPS insulation before winter.

Having good lighting in the garage is, IMO, essential. Being from MN originally, trying to work on cars in the winter in a dimly lit garage is horrible.

Decisions have been made.
We’re going with a painted mantle.
