Is there a meteorological source for approaching a Cat 1? I heard the S.C. governor say Cat 3 yesterday.

By the way, they are now tracking Jose and Katia...

Dropped by the dollar tree for dog treats ( don't hate the dogs love them) and no water! Lol went to the Walmart next door and same thing. Lady was cussing a manager because they were out. Lady "What am I supposed to do if I lose power!!!??" Manager " I guess you should have thought ahead"..... Cool as can be! Lmao!!! That lady went ballistic!

the scene at Costco today...View attachment 22105
We stopped at Costco in Apex yesterday for unrelated to the hurricane things and it was ridiculous.... people buying carts of frozen food.
They didn't have any bottled water and people were loosing their minds.

My wife stopped at Wal-Mart in Hillsborough, had plenty of everything. She said they had stocks of everything. She bought some water so we are good to go.

I just keep stocked up for the most part on water and such but it looks like the western part of NC will be impacted more than the Eastern Part....eerily ironic with Jose still churning

The Weather Underground I posted in #294 has updated itself! Irma is now projected moving through the middle of Florida and into Georgia. The National Weather Service at 5:00 shows the same track. The winds still cover much of S.C. and N.C. on Mon-Tuesday.

I'm a hydraulics engineer...i just design the bridges/culverts & roadway drainage.
Someone else builds them. :)

Well...sometimes you just gotta go where the work's at!

As an engineer myself, I find it fascinating how bridges and the like are built, including overpasses. Not my bailiwick, but really fascinating to see how an area is transformed and built up into these structures.

Sheesh! FILL SOME JUGS AT HOME, LADY!

Friend of mine left Florida today to come up here. He said it's madness down there right now. Gas stations are out of gas and it's chaos on the roads.

So This is going to arrive Monday night into Tuesday morning?

The Euro planners have this now as an Atlanta storm. That's hard to believe as only yesterday Atlanta was on the escape route. The NWS did anticipate a more westward move next Monday. Monday night will be in for a big blow.

It could change again, but this baby is so huge that 70+ gusts are in the Charlotte area while it's in Georgia. I don't think there's any escaping the wind and rain from this one.

I work Monday at midnight so I'm just wondering how busy I'm going to be.

Do folks realize there was a time when a "power grid" was nonexistent?

We always have two or three cases of water on hand, in reserve, as well as gallon jugs and 2 liters filled with tap water.

I'm an electrical eningeer. I was showing an ME some signals on an oscilloscope and telling him that they were switching in nanoseconds and operating at 1.8 volts. He asked, How does thst blow the carbon off the contacts? In an IC chip o_O ...

Working Monday at midnight will be therapeutic for you. Afterall, staying busy will be important. It will definitely help you to forget the ECU vs. WVU game.:D

If it gets bad I figure on having to stay until things calm down.

Yeah I hope they don't try to hold us over I've worked enough ot lately. Plus it'll probably be busy at my volunteer dept

Forget? I'm going to be replaying it over and over again watching my Mountaineers thump those purple butt pirates. I'm betting Grier puts up 400+ on ECU.
