I saw this posted on a CZ Scorpion group on fb, it’s definitely making its rounds.

Based on those posts, the guy at Cherokee Guns is an absolute fool! Theft is a crime, that wasn’t theft, not even close. You can argue what happened was improper and goes against common decency, but that doesn’t warrant the type of response that occurred.

Cherokee offered an unsatisfactorily low price, seller declined, other customer inquired about it on the sellers way out the door, they struck a deal, it’s a win for the buyer & seller. Cherokee is being a whiny little female dog because they didn’t get a piece of it.

Yup they delisted it after the backlash started. Clearly this wasn’t worth the $40 profit he thought he was cheated out of.

Is that the story on the CZ group?

Because the guy said (in the post in the OP) he stopped the guy on the way in to the shop, before he went in the door.

I don’t know what the real story is, but I don’t think anybody would have an issue at all with him buying it if the guy left the shop still in possession of the firearm.

Ahhh, that’s my bad, I thought they were both leaving. Ok so the shop has more reason to be upset but I still have a big issue with calling it theft and publicly posting that “this person stole from my shop”.

Ok, so pin/pen hooking is rude - I can agree with that...to a point.
How many of you have talked about, or liked a post about, someone going to a gun buy-back and offering folks more cash than the cops would have. I mean, is that any different honestly? You know theyre there to sell something and you just intercept to get a deal and actually help the person out more than the police (or in this case, a pawn shop) would have.

    Just an idea.

Secondly - again, while it might be rude, is it that bad if it's just coincidence that the guy was there? It wasnt like he was hanging out in a parking lot all day waiting, he just happened upon the guy.

If I was the guy I'd be furious that this joker posted my picture and lied about what I did (or didnt do).
When I opened the thread and read the initial post I assumed the dude jacked something from the store...yeah, that's not the case at all.

Last thing for tonight on this thread - I have Vermont plates on one of my vehicles - Ive never even been to Vermont. It's registered to me legally from VT, but Ive always maintained residence here in NC. So if this clown sees me buying a gun he's going to call the cops cause he's too dumb to understand that people could have a plate on a car form another state and be resident here?

I know I would never shop at the store of someone that I knew forced someone who bought a firearm in a legal, fair private transaction to give them the firearm, over threat of death and slander/libel. Cherokee Guns will now definitely be infamous for its incredibly shady business practices.

I still wish my comment on his page about staging a mass private sale/transfer near his property for the fun of it had caught more traction, lol.

We have no parking lot. The Forum is like being inside the store, sitting at the counter speaking with each store owner.

And all he has to do it look at your issue day on the N.C license you have and that defense goes right out the window.

Maybe if NC would get their head out of their butt I would have. I TRIED and the DMV/DOT would not tag it since the title has been lost.

This should not be compared to a gun buy back program. Gun / pawn shops buy and resell, negotiate a price, buy back programs are set up as "X" amount of money for each gun, without negotiating.
Gun / pawn shops resell gun, but back programs destroy them, usually after someone keeps the best for themselves.
In my mind, no comparison. I would do this at a buy back program, but not a gun store.

Dont forget the biggies, buy back are generally on the taxpayers expense, also destroys someone’s rightful property that has been stolen.

Sniping a gun shop is nowhere remotely the same as a buyback

I wasn't suggesting it as a defense... just stating what the law is.

I’m curious if this kid has a libel\defamation case? They publicly accused him on social media with his picture of committing a crime.

It’s bad business to buy a gun in front of a gun stores entry. Ethically wrong but not illegal.

If the store owner had posted my picture and claimed I stole from him, leading others to think I am a thief he would need to lawyer up within a week if not days. I would not press charges for the threat based on the threat alone but seeing he tried to publicly destroy my character I would see that he was served papers for the threat as well.

Being a business owner it’s better to sneak around with your revenge or at least think about the repercussions of any actions before going full blown nut case.

Do you drive your VT registered car here? If so, you are screwing the rest of us NC taxpayers. You need to keep that car in VT or get your NC tags. But, I'm guessing you are saving yourself a lot of money doing this while screwing the NC taxpayer.

When I moved to SC I couldn't register my truck without the title, so I had to go to NH DMV to get it. NH only titles vehicles for ten years. Apparently SC does it longer. Had I moved only one more year later I would have been SOOL.

I'm sure we will hear more about this in the coming weeks. There has been too much attention to it for it to disappear just yet.

I agree it is rude to intercept a guy walking in to the gun store, but I bet most of us have a dream gun that we would be mighty tempted to do just that regardless of manners if we saw it walking in.

I also agree that the store owner is justified in telling the buyer not to come back and to post about it on what ever media he likes. I don't believe he has a right to label him a thief.

If the buyer really is an out of state resident then he is in for some trouble. If he's legal then he might have a libel case if he chooses to pursue it.

Either way I not setting foot in that store.

Being rude is not a crime. Being rude doesn't deserve someone butt hurt to making false and public accusations to deliberately call someone a thief and a robber. That is a crime.

That was a big part of my issue. a LOT of documents are pretty hard to locate after the move.
So yeah, my MI plates don't mean I don't live here, it just means I haven't transferred my registration and (and wasted 75% of the money i paid to register back up in MI). Like I said, I'll be registering here soon because we just found all the paperwork a couple weeks ago - but the office restrictions due to COVID have been a bit of a problem.

So on topic - the owner is talking out of his but and could be guilty of libel because he literally has ZERO idea why the plates are TN and no actual theft happened. Maybe the car is registered to somebody who is serving in the military and exempt from being registered here as long as it remains registered in the previous state of permanent residence... Bad business decision to fly off the handle like that.

    a) it's a motorcycle, not a car (just for clarification)
    b) yes, I drive it here
    c) neither me nor NCDMV lost the title, guess it was just lost through the years. It's 45+ year old street legal dirtbike, the title got lost along the way and NCDMV said they could NOT try to get it back and that they had no record of it even being registered in the last XX years.
    d) how is this screwing the NC taxpayer?
    e) Guess what - I AM AN NC TAXPAYER. Ive got three other vehicles which are registered and plated in NC
I am saving ZERO dollars by going through VT, but, again, how am I screwing the NC taxpayers?

You don’t owe anyone an explanation. The government gets enough. Laws also says if you privately buy items you report it and send the revenue man the tax. Like on a privately sold gun.
