Let's drop the weight challenge

Weigh-in at the halfway point is 260.1. First couple of days were rough, especially being left alone in a house full of food. Workouts are a struggle because of less energy but manageable. I’m not doing the true MSAF Challenge but close. Black coffee and a banana for breakfast, Smashing Greens with half a scoop of my watermelon flavored pre-workout to make it palatable for lunch and dinner and a whey protein shake for a mid-afternoon snack. Sprinkle 128+ oz of water in throughout the day and that is my daily intake.

@CHRIS_WNC yeah, please let us know.

Before I get the greens I am going to try a few other things...booze only on the weekend, cut back portions, etc. Last I weighed I was 205 +/-, like to get to 190 or so.

I'm on Day 6 of the MASF fasting challenge. Starting weight was 256.1 and I weighed in at 245.3 this morning.
After 5 total days I am down 10.8 pounds.
I'm hoping for another 5 or so down on the next 5 days.
ovP9yrq.jpg

I am going by the guidelines listed on their website.
Breakfast is greens, pre, and post workout mixed with 20 oz of water. I also have a large of coffee after that.
Lunch and dinner is greens and three scoops of the protein (peanut butter for me) in 20 oz of water.
30 minutes prior to a workout is one scoop of pre workout in 12 oz water. During workout is the "post" workout powder in about 20 oz water.
On top of that I'm also drinking about 150 oz of tap water.
Desert for me on three days has been a 12 oz can of La Croix flavored water. 😆

The first couple of days I felt fine. I was getting used to the taste of the shakes. They are pretty bad. The pre and post workout stuff is good. I'll keep doing that after the challenge. On day three I could tell something changed and my energy level has dropped. I think my stores of excess junk has burned off and I'm fully into the burning other shit phase. I get a few hours on the drinks then I crash and need the next one. Based on my fitbit calculator, total calorie input for the day is around 650. I'm looking forward to a warm meal. lol.

Next update will be on the 11th!

@CHRIS_WNC That mirrors my experience too. My 3rd day (Sunday), I started losing energy and sometimes lose mental focus. Really sucked because I had a long list of stuff that had to get done that day too. My cardio workout is a big struggle because of this but the lifting hasn’t been affected appreciatively.

My wife keeps asking me what I want to eat Monday and my response is always “everything” :). Hoping this will be the spark I needed to get back to eating healthy again so I don’t become a blob again

You are going into Ketosis.....some call it keto flu it's normal your body is shifting from running on carbs for energy to running on fat...fat doesn't have a long lasting energy burn like carbs do....but any carbs not used for energy after 4 hours of digestion turns into fat for storage....fat well it's already fat so 😅

So confused at the moment. This is my last full day of fasting and, since my Wednesday weigh-in, I haven’t lost an oz. (I have weighed 260.1 every day 😡). And, yes, my scale is calibrated and will show other weights 😬

Every day starts with black coffee and a banana for breakfast, then a SG/pre-workout meal substitute for lunch and dinner and at least 120oz of water and that is it. And every day has me lifting weights and/or 30 min of cardio. My FitBit shows I have hit at least 10k steps and burned at least 2800 calories (I do take these numbers with a grain of salt) every day, so I am at a loss on the lack of weight loss. Constipation maybe? Haven’t had a BM since Tuesday but I don’t feel bloated or constipated.

I’m only down 0.2 lbs from yesterday. I think I might run out of the greens at dinner drink tonight. So I may only make it 9 full days of fasting. I need to come up with 4 scoops out of the tub!

I haven’t had a real BM since day two. Lots of peeing though. I’ve got the ol’ anxious gut most of the day now. But nothing happens in the bathroom.
Getting to a “stall” point in weight loss is pretty common but I’m not sure how I’d react to it on a short program like this. May as well finish it out though.
You are doing more workouts than me. It seems like you should still be moving down. Maybe it’s muscle gains?

CHRIS

Muscle gains is plausible but with almost no protein in my diet for these 10 days and my routines being more maintenance than heavy lifting, I’m not sure it is the cause. Just strange that I have not lost or gained an ounce since Wed

Weight yourself first thing in the morning....have you been on a low carb diet prior? If so eat some carbs and get back at it... when my wife and I were doing keto right around every two weeks we'd hit a flat spot no loss/gain....would go out for a nice burger with fries etc on Saturday for late lunch/dinner and hit it hard on Monday we'd both gain very little then go back to dropping weight again by Tuesday morning.

I weigh myself every morning at 0730. I have not done low carb before, so I was unaware of the plateau effect. I did have a sirloin taco for lunch (I had given up on the fast), but will do the last SG for dinner and hopefully see decent results for my last weigh in tomorrow

Those plateaus are hard ! I started a strict Keto the middle of June 2020 and lost weight rapidly. I am down to 195-ish from 273 but I did plateau at around 220 for about a month. I was patient with it and I started moving down again. I am now doing no sugar, very limited carbs (20-30 per day), lots of protein and a lot of green leafy vegetables. I have made not eating carbs and sugar a habit so willpower really has nothing to do with it any more. I intermittent fast nearly every day (16/8) but some days it is only one meal per day because it is more convenient for my schedule.

It is difficult to find the balance that works for you. My family (sugaraholics, all of them) complain that I am difficult to eat out with because there are so many foods I don't eat. There is always someone trying to tell you how your diet is bad for you and I always have to laugh. Most of those people are overweight and gaining so I don't see how their method is working better than mine. I am sure I get more green leafy and other vegetables than the average person and my protein intake is not considerably more. I just keep doing what I feel is best for me and let the results speak for themselves.

I encourage all of you to remember that the scale isn't the only measuring stick for your success. I remember that during my plateaus, I still did see a change in the way my clothes fit and I continued to feel better without the extra weight. Just keep hammering at it and you will be successful in reaching your goals.

269.4 is my starting weight. Hoping to be <250 on 10 May

Final weigh-in this morning showed 257.3, so a hair over 12lbs total. Wish I had known about the stall/plateau/etc because I feel I could have hit my goal if I had eaten some carbs on Thursday but am still pleased with the results

Plateaus are real, regardless of type of diet. When it happens, either have faith and drive on, or mix it up.

Yep, this was 100% on my ignorance. In my 51 yrs on this Earth, I have never been on a diet. I have changed eating habits numerous times but never a diet. And the frequency I have weighed myself during training for these types of events was, at most, once a week.

Remember, diets are periodic and time limited. Diet changes are permanent and long-standing. Also, weighing is fine, but better reflective are changes in clothes.

I ran out of greens powder last night so this morning is my final weigh in on this challenge. I did 9 full days. Saturday was tough. I had zero energy. Yesterday I took two of the morning vitamins and did the pre/post workout during the day while I was moving stuff from my garage to our storage container. That all helped. Energy was much better yesterday. Sitting at the house watching TV is a bad way to fast. Lol.

Made it down to 241.8, so a total of 14.3 pounds lost in 9 days of MASF fasting.

I had two sausage patties and a boiled egg this morning for breakfast. I’m a happy guy!

CHRIS

Ran the Spartan Sprint with my oldest daughter this past weekend. Even though I was unmotivated in my training leading up to the event, I did better than expected. At least I did for the first two miles. Right at the halfway point, the blisters on my left heel and right big toe ripped open (forgot to use the heel lock tie for my shoes). So I took my shoes off and did the rest of the race in my compression socks. Slowed us down considerably but still finished in the middle of the pack overall and top 25% for my age bracket, so I’m happy overall.

Per the discussion of the MASF Challenge and MASF supplement in this thread (https://carolinafirearmsforum.com/index.php?threads/masf-challenges.85963/page-2#post-1522492), I decided to do a partial fast/IF. I used one of the MASF products, 'Smashin' Greens,' as a meal replacement for lunch and occasional lunch and breakfast, and still had dinner. Pre-'program' I was 195, and this morning, after a week, I am 189.6.

I am on a new notch on the belt, but still have too much belly/waist fat/blubber for my liking and want to get rid of that, get back into 36" pants, comfortably.

joined Gym365 in Advance a few weeks ago
feeling really good since I’ve been going
had my wife come with me tonight
I did squats for the first time ever in my life during this session: 3 sets of 5 @ 190#
I’m walking almost 3 miles in an hour now
I figured that’s a decent start for a fat guy
I need to lose 175 more #’s
👍🏼

Congratulations!

When the going gets tough and it looks like you just can't do it any more, remember what the secret to success is:

Just keep doing it.

Started a liquid only diet last Friday, this is unreal, when I started I was at 378, I’m now at 352 today, that’s 26 pounds in a week! doing only water and protein shakes, I’ve gone down 4 pants sizes, my BMI went from 52.1 to 46.8 and I’m in moderate ketosis monitoring twice a day, I’m diabetic so my glucose is usually about 220-240, it’s staying around 125-150 without insulin, not sure what my current A1c is but I’m sure it’s gone down too, on 9/14 it was 7.9

The doc says I am at 240, with steel toes and full clothes. I figured I was an actual 235ish. I want to be 200, so been cutting out the honey buns in the mornin and only a soda can in the mornin. Water or Gatorade when ever else. Except evening time, not giving up the beer. My medical card is due in January hoping to make 200 by then

200 is my goal too

I've shrunk again.

Started my effort 8/7 at 177. My goal is 155 by track day (next weekend). I'm 157 today.

I started out like I normally do, cutting out sugars, starches, beer, etc. I was just eating meats and veggies. I was replacing some meals with a yuge salad and sometimes even skipping the evening meal altogether. Oh, I replaced the beer with whiskey because alcohol. I think that style of eating is referred to as keto, but I never really know.

Because I still have a couple more goal lbs to lose, I've gone "carnivore" for the past two days. I've also had no alcohol since last Saturday night (might have a drink or two tonight, though).

C'mon 155!

NO ALCOHOL, HOW DO YOU FUNCTION

I’ve been functioning that way for more than 25 years. Lots of coffee helps.
Can't eat or drink anything hot since 7th grade. Mom gave me money one cold wintery AZ mornin to get some hot cocoa at school after I walked there. It blistered my tongue and roof of my mouth so bad. Can't even eat hot soup or stew, everything is Luke warm at best.

Iced coffee ? My wife swears by the Chik-fil-A variety.

I started WW Personal Points program in January. I’ve done keto a few times and, while the pounds fall fast, I ultimately seem to find them and put them back on in short order. I didn’t have a lot of confidence going in, but the wife and I started together with a “let’s see what happens“ attitude. I’m 235 today, down from 265 in January. Wife is down about 15lbs. I haven’t seen 200 since my first marriage in 2003, but at a pound a week lately I feel like it’s possible. Crazy thing is I don’t really miss out on much. One day a week I eat pizza. I’ve never craved sugary drinks, been on Diet Coke for years. Haven’t had a drink in nine years. I didn’t have to give up potatoes or rice or bread, and that was very hard with keto. How does a Southerner survive without rice??!!

Not eating carbs is really hard at first but, like any habit, gets easier over time. Congratulations on your progress and keep up the good work.

Up until Covid hit I was working out for at least an hour and a half per day while at work. I was training for Spartan races and other off road obstacle course races. I was still a chonky man, but I was in good condition as far as so had ever been.

Then Covid hit and a few weeks off turned into months, which turned into almost two years.

Last October I was probably pushing 290 lbs. I wasn’t weighing any more and didn’t really care. Then I saw a picture of myself with my sons football team and all I saw was belly.

My wife started doing Keto in September/October, and was showing progress. I decided to jump in with her. I didn’t weigh at the time because I honestly didn’t think I’d stick with it. I was constantly telling myself “I’m going to really diet this time” and then a few days later I was chugging a Frosty with a couple double cheeseburgers. But this time, I stuck with it.

I’m now around 235-240, so down around 50 lbs. I am basically avoiding carbs as best I can, no refined sugars, and eat a lot of salads and meat. At my last blood work test my cholesterol and all those numbers were “normal” for the first time in years.

My plan is to get to around 220 or so, so 15-20 lbs to go. I no longer feel “fat”. But I need to get back in the gym, because even though I am lighter than I have been since college, my endurance and strength isn’t what it can be.
