Let's drop the weight challenge

I just HAD to get the banana pudding cake ha

Getting on the path is about living. Living is about doing fun stuff or eating the sweet stuff sometimes. Just remember to get back on the path after you step off.

I run a tight ship on my work days so I can do whatever I want on my days off.

Great job on getting on the path. Don't sweat stepping off it occasionally, just get yourself right back on after you enjoy yourself and things will go fine.

What can I do to help??

I want to encourage everyone here. Get after it.

Being fat is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard.

Ummm...that may not have come across the way you intended...

🤣

But still, you're right.

Life is hard. No need to make it any harder than necessary. Like my realization of the significant health issues that could arise.

This.
I don't do a plan, but mostly eat lean protein and moderate carbs and low fat. I manipulate calories and use "MyFitnessPal" for tracking if I'm being serious, I know roughly what my maintenance is from cycles of gaining and losing.
During the week I control what I eat and importantly drink, pretty strict, on weekends unless I'm in a hurry to make a change I don't worry beyond not eating myself stuffed.
Just trying to get lean, down 25lbs or so since February slow, steady, and sustainable.

Saturday is typically my cheat day and even then I try to keep it within reason especially if I'm on the weight loss train.

I got out of whack there for awhile and gained some of it back. Now I'm on it again and have lost nearly 20 lbs in a couple months.

At the height of Covid I tipped the scales at 165. I am about 5’ 4.5” in cleats standing on the Sunday paper. I have a fairly athletic build but needed to make a change.

I am now 143. Exercise has been key for me. My goal is 20 workouts a month. Basic functional strength training to build lean muscle which helps me burn more calories on a daily.

I track calories on my fitness pal and have a whiteboard to track my workouts. The wife is doing the same and seen similar if not better results. It is not just on the scale it is how I look and how I feel. You have to make it your routine. Once you do it gets easier. These days I feel obligated to work out.

at my heaviest I was 253....about 4 years ago i decided to get serious and lose weight and I got down to 206.

then last year my wife got pregnant and we had our first child in december and i managed to balloon up to 235...I was eating a snack after every night time feeding to get back to sleep as well as not running cause i was too tired.

I am down to 230 and my plan is to get back down to 210 or maybe lower by this summer

By the way...let me say that getting through this last weekend and still managing to drop a pound of weight was in the face of great adversity, starting with Gallabrae 2022 on Saturday. Haggis, scotch eggs, and more at the festival were very tempting! But amazingly, sticking to reasonable portions did the trick, then staying active walking around all the festivities and tents.

We did a lot of cooking out over the weekend, too, but again...sticking to reasonable portions allows for plenty of sampling of all the goodies and never going hungry.

Keep it up, guys! We're on a roll! 197 and decreasing!

from 5-25 to 5-30 I lost another pound and a few tenths.
Im just trying to be more active. Last three days Ive done over 6k steps, today almost 8500, yesterday was 7500, day before was right under 11k
Just trying to make sure Im doing MORE, as well as eating a bit better

This morning I exited the house around 6:05am, put my headphones in, had two bottles of water packed and two protein bars (which I ate one on the way out of the neighborhood), and a book.
Over 11k steps later I was ordering a 20oz coffee, black, and reading for a short bit while I enjoyed my coffee. Then on back home, a slightly different route.

Over 21k steps before 10:30am. Over 10 miles walked. I feel GREAT.

And I rocked my BOB hat (thanks @BatteryOaksBilly , again)

great and all for the walk...but, holy hell, there's Biggby Coffee in NC??!!

That place/franchise started in a little dump of a building back in East Lansing, MI about 20 years ago. Way better than Starbucks (at least the original store at the time)

Yeah, there's a few now in NC. Im not a huge fan, if Im honest. It's a bit too 'bright' and happy for me. I want my coffee shop to be dark and not full of people saying, "GOOD MORNING!" when I walk it.

Also, since you know about the founding, surely you know the original name..."Beaners Coffee" which they changed to not seem insensitive to Mexicans. lol

I haven't been to one in a long time. I still have a Beaner's mug around somewhere I think.

Anywho...great job on the walk! I've been hiking in the State/Nat forests here 3-4 times per week since February. Down almost 30# and feeling great. I actually hit my original goal weight this morning, though I immediately changed the goal for another 10#.

192 yesterday, a 3 pound drop from the Friday before.

EDIT:

To put the 8 pound weight loss this represents into perspective, that's a bit more than 5 quarts of body fat by volume.

I can see and feel the difference in my stomach... and belt.

My goal is stable in the mid-160s. That will represent about 5 gallons of body fat lost.

Keep pushing for your goals, guys!

I hit 140 on Friday. Ran mile on Saturday with the wife in under 11 minutes. Slowly but surely working it down from 165 at the height of my Covid-19 pandemic weight.

My grind has become real. I desperately need to get more active, as diet alone is going to take a long time to get anywhere. I am now down about 65lbs, so inching down. My lowest has been 225, went from a tight size 44 pant to a very loose 38, and probably need a 36, if I could ever find time to actually go clothes shopping.

Ive been weighing the last few days at, basically, the same time each morning - right after my morning pee, before breakfast etc
It dropped a little each day. That's cool.

Weight is good, but I also want to, like @B00ger , lose inches. I want to LOOK slimmer. Less fatty tissues above my pectoral muscle (aka: manboobs or moobs). Less muffin top. And wearing Large shirts, regardless of brand, again. Now it's some L and mostly XL. Actually, in ONE shirt it takes a 2X, I dont know why Nike ran their Soccer shirts so dang small.

Anyway, tomorrow morning Im planning on starting early on another big walk. Same as last week, more than likely.

Yup, thats exactly where I am actually. The weight is cool, and I like having a lower number. But the >real< payoff is when clothes dont fit anymore. Pants I used to squeeze in look silly. I used to have a problem buying clothes because most chubby folks were wearing size 42-44...and now it seems most people are wearing 36-38!

One problem I noticed too is I have a hard time letting go of clothes, I have t-shirts that I still wear, but are very big on me. I used to wear big shirts to hide how fat I was, and now those same shirts hide how skinny I have become! Its an odd place to be.

I also try to weigh about the same time every morning. After the morning pee and before I eat/drink anything. It can fluxuate a pound or two, so I take the lowest of the past week and count that. Over time its inched downward, which is what I am going for.

Letting go of clothes that don’t fit anymore is part of the process think of it as a reward not a punishment. I have bought the same T-shirt from places like Woot as I’ve lost weight.

It’s hard to let them go in someways but if you look at it as part of the process it’s really really rewarding.

@HMP and @B00ger you should try rucking. I was walking a lot and got in Ok shape. Was doing 3 miles 2-3 times a week, a few shorter neighborhood walks and then a 5-6 mile walk on the weekend. It all helps, but eventually there is a plateau. When I added a pack and some weight it really started making my legs stronger and I could feel the walks in my core, back and whole trunk. I started out with a 10 lb weight and now can carry a 30 lb plate with water bladder, 1st aid kit and other stuff for 6-10 miles. Much stronger overall than before. My next step is to get back to some kettlebell and strength workouts on a regular basis and limiting booze more. My diet is my weakness. If you have that licked adding a pack with weight will make those walks a better fat burner and strength builder for your back and core. Just make sure you add weight slowly as you got all excited when I started and wore my butt out.

The other day while on a walk I thought about how you mentioned this before. And youre right. Need to add a little bit of resistance.
Youre right, I will. Soon.

If you want to do a ruck sometime we can get a few us together and meet in Greensboro or a good half way spot. It’s more fun and easy when you get to BS with other people. Makes the miles go buy better. I did about an 8 miler once with @Elenaidan and it seemed like a mile. Good conversation and good people helps.

Are you just using dumbells or what to get your weight in the pack?

Go Ruck pack with plate. Most comfortable and easy option but not cheap. When I started I wrapped 5 and 10 lb weights in towels and crammed them in a backpack. Which is actually a good way to start. Light weights and cheap. If you hate it you didn’t waste a bunch of cash. Upgrade later if you get into it.

Thanks. I will do this soon. Not tomorrow though. I dont think Im walking tomorrow. Today was miserable enough outside, tomorrow going to be hotter.
I want to lose weight, but Jesus, it's flipping hot this week.

I love the heat if I am just working out and sweating. But I’ll probably croak young doing something dumb.

This is a recipe for frustration, especially in the summer (body retains salt as to retain fluid). Once a week is good, and judge success based on not just the scale but also how your clothes feel.

I gave most of my big stuff away, but have a few essentials packed away in a crate. I do most of my shopping at Goodwill, especially with my weight in flux. I ain't spending $50 for pants that might be too big in a month. $3 pants will work just fine. Some things...t-shirts, shorts...I do buy online, but work clothes, Goodwill.

Aerobic + resistance is an excellent way to get overall fitness. Nothing like carrying heavy things far, and fast. It will absolutely transform your body.

Im looking forward to buying a few new items once I lose inches, but, like you said, Im going to wait until there is some serious difference

I was surprised at what I found at Goodwill: Izod shirts and pants, North Face pants (tags attached, brand new), Brooks Brothers shirts. I am not a clothes snob, but I don't want to wear 'cheap stuff' for work. Otherwise, I wear Kirkland (Costco) jeans, Croft & Barrow (Kohl's) shorts and shirts.
