Let's drop the weight challenge

I don't mind running and have always worn New Balance. The NB has always been a nice comfortable shoe for me I have never had any problems until recently.
Just got the Brooks, and the difference is noticeable.

When I was running I wore New Balance mostly Just because they felt good. Then I went to a store that specializes in running shoes and had them do a foot and gate analysis, and they put me in Brooks. The difference was simply staggering. For Brooks I wear the Brooks Addiction. I also wear Asics GT-2000, a little less good, but almost half the price.

I have tried new balance and after a visit to the fleet feet store in Winston I got a pair of Hokas, either of you guys with Brooks ever tried Hokas, would be curious to see if they are comparable.

Sorry I didn't post my weekly Friday weigh-in yesterday, but I was exhausted at the end of a week long Cub Scout Day Camp event. That, and I had a muscle spasm in my lower back Thursday and was really looking forward to some horizontal time to get the kinks worked back out.

Anyway, I was kind of scared to step on the scales because I wasn't keeping to my diet very well all week. Imagine my surprise when I weighed in at a solid 183 pounds, two pounds lighter than last Friday!

I had, of course, hoped to hit 179 by now, but steady downward progress is totally awesome. It only means I'll be very solidly in the lower 170s by the end of July.

And mid-160s is only a hop, skip, and a jump from there!

I have not tried the Hokas, and now I am curious as well. I have never heard of them, but that is not saying much. I am going to keep my eyes open for them and try to get some on my feet to check them out.
I ran for the first time with the Brooks yesterday and it was awesome. I had a little knee discomfort at first, and then nothing. I ended up running around 5.4mi. and it was great.
Those shoes made all the difference. It was a huge relief, and I feel great today.

I love the Hokas! Like running on fluffy clouds! https://www.hoka.com/en/us/hoka-shoe-finder.html
This is the pair I got and they are great! Glad you got it worked out, foot pain is the worst!

Hope you are feeling better sir, that stuff can SUCK!!!
Also, glad to hear that despite all that your still on track to hit your goal! đź‘Ť

Thanks!

Yeah, it sucks big time. You can't do ANYTHING without your lower back muscles, which means muscle spasms can take a long time getting better.

And trying NOT to collapse makes them worse in the long run, because it makes them knot up even harder.

When it happens, I pretty much drop where I'm at and immediately try to relax the muscles and rub the knot out. Still takes days at a minimum to get over. I've had the pain last two or three months before.

I screwed up tonight. Not bad. But I did. I treated myself to some ice cream. I spend a solid 5 minutes comparing calories on the packages, sugars, fats etc adn had what equates to about 200 calories of ice cream.

Friday and yesterday was filled with pizza, beer, and peanut butter pie. Tomorrow afternoon is another food-fest at my in-laws for their 4th of July party. So today I will be running lean and at a near calorie deficit.

I only weight once a week, Mondays, so this weekend won't really show until I weight next week.

I haven’t tried Hoka’s but I wore the Brooks Beast for a long time. I’m down 80-ish pounds and I’ve found that I really don’t need a max stability/support shoe anymore. I have been wearing a pair of NB 860v12 Fresh Foam and they have been great.

Saturday's is cheat day and we usually do Pizza but I try and stick to thin crust however I usually eat too much. I don't know what it is but Tater Tots are my kryptonite. I could care less about French Fries.... My wife will cook tots on occasion for our son and I fold every damn time.

Might have been @CZfool68 that suggested rucking. I will...some day, but not now.
BUT, I bought a weight vest today at Play It Again. 20lbs for 25 bucks.

I don't ruck a whole lot, but I work out with the plate carrier a lot. But be careful: when you start working out with a PC or vest do less than you think you can.

I have a sandbag/PC workout if you are interested; you can scale or eliminate the sections you don't want to do. PM if you want it.

Well, I finally got sickened by myself again. The Covid lock down, busted leg bone, empty wallet and funk related garbage food habits have erased any progress I made before I got hurt. I'm fat as a whale and feeling wretched, my dick don't work most of the time from blood pressure and it is long past time to try this road towards un****ing myself again. No more wallowing and pity party.

I have the treadmill I got from a member here finally set up where I can actually use it. I've got some babysteps Indian clubs on the way to try and get some strength back in my arms and wrists and loosen my buggered shoulder. I'm looking for a heavy bag to run up a sweat with, get some of the self loathing out on and switch it up with so my half fixed knee doesn't give out.

I've got a $90 Walmart order of frozen veggies and meal prep containers and such to pickup tomorrow, to add to the beans and pulses I have for big gloppy and healthier messes in the crockpot, with a little meat for flavour and savour and maybe a little rice to bribe the carb monkey.

I'm not going to be dieting with a capital D, but I am going to try and stop eating microwave garbage, snack foods and the pure trash I've gotten into the habit of lately any time I need to distract myself from my brain. It's killing me and for the first time in a few years I'm actually sort of mad about that. No more candy and chips, no more plastic pastries. No more fast food flavoured lard lumps covered in batter because it's easier than cooking.

I mostly quit the soda already so that's a blessing, it's an occasional treat not the litres a day it used to be. Same with the beer and liquor. I'm going to have to keep the coffee sugar because I can't find a substitute that doesn't make me want to retch and I work too many mixed weeks of days and nights to ditch the caffeine juice. I'm going to try and taper off until it's no sugar at all, or damn near.

Wish me luck fellas. I'm 50, fat and ****ed in the head so this may be my last go at this after a lifetime of fatass failure.

GOOD LUCK DUDE

As for eating - small meals many times a day.
It sucks, it's super hard at times and at first, but try hard
It's about caloric intake - if you arent doing anything then those extra calories are just piling up. Try to stay active somehow and watch your intake

Yeah, which is my biggest hurdle since when I'm idle I tend to eat.

DONT. GET. IDLE.

Even if browsing here - STAND!
Clean up your home, do a deep clean.
Go out and do yard work.
Clean your guns, oil them.
DO SOMETHING
Good advice. And I may have secured a heavy bag and stand, assuming it doesn't turn out like most Facebook transactions

@NCLivingBrit Good Luck🍀
Get yourself a system that replaces your destructive behaviors with positive ones. Everything will fall into place.
Once you start making some progress it is much less of a struggle. Just get over the hump.
I realize this stuff is easier said than done, but you've got this.
HMP is 100% right, just do something.
Something that is not self-loathing and doesn't destroy your progress.
Change is never easy until it becomes that way. It takes time to create new habits.
Give yourself a break and take the time that is necessary to make yourself healthier both physically and mentally.
You have the fortitude, now apply it.

Great approach, and wonderful mindset. You lose weight in the kitchen, you get fit in the gym (or walking, or fitness, or whatever). Start small and build up. Taper the crap you are eating, don't go cold turkey. Make water your new beverage of choice. Make sure with your diet you are hitting your macros (carbs, protein, fat).

Good luck. You have already succeeded with the hardest part.

Thanks guys. I'm off work the next few days so tomorrow will be reorganization of the living room to give me workout space plus a general clean since it's gotten cluttered because I didn't care.

I'll start the crockpot while that's going on, plan is have a bunch of frozen containers to take to work etc and some ready to go in tbe fridge. I probably got containers too large, but each one has two 8oz sections so I plan to half fill each side and have some variety frozen meals. I need to get some small containers too I'm guessing. Everything I'm prepping is going to be variants of mostly veggies, no added fat, some lean protein and a little rice because I don't want the carb monkey screaming yet. I need to hit the big Chinese market in Greensboro for spice paste jars to jazz things up.

Breakfast is going to be the hard one for me, maybe I'll just make a big tub of hard boiled eggs or something.

Think I may start a thread tomorrow, because having to fess up to exactly what I did or didn't do in a given day will help didn't become did. Shame based motivation ftw!

@NCLivingBrit , get breakfast right, that is key. Me, I don't eat a lot, but I have a lot packed in a small punch. I have a carnation instant breakfast (chocolate, has all the vitamins and minerals and all that jazz), almond milk, a frozen banana, with a scoop of 30 g of protein and 5 g of creatine all blended together to make a nice peanut butter chocolate smoothie. It lasts me until lunch.

Eggs are great, bacon and sausage are okay, but stay away from pancakes, waffles, donuts, pastries, all that stuff. And lest I sound like a hypocrite, those are things I love so I do have those from time to time.

I don't eat out a lot lately so the plan is to make social dining out my free fire zone, but only when in company. Home food and work food needs to toe the line and be healthy. Figure that will self regulate since my social life is just busy enough to keep me strong between dinings out.

Biggest issue for me with breakfast is the price of breakfast meats lately! Last time I did this I made hard boiled eggs or egg salad and little sausage balls, all eaten cold at work to start the day. Sausage is priced like steak now! Bacon is made of gold.

I used to keep those instant breakfast pouches around for hangovers, they're not bad but I thought they are loaded with sugar? They do make for an easy breakfast that's for sure.

I threw on the weighted vest today while it was raining so I had 'resistance' while I swept up the house. ANYTHING is better than nothing.
Stay posi @NCLivingBrit , I know it's not your forte, but you can do this duder

Right now Im posting this while standing at my indoor workbench (made two - one that gets the hell beat out of it in the garage...and it's the BETTER looking one, and then this one. For little projects in the house, especially when its super hot or super cold. Even wrapping gifts at Christmas.
But, where was I...
Yeah, so Im browsing as I list things on ebay. Im trying to be multi-productive: sell stuff for a few dollars, clear out space. And stand while doing it.

Im going to go check in a sec, if the rain is over Im going for a walk!

Welp Im home now. 20lbs is a lot when youre not used to it!
I did 3.9 miles (logged how many steps for the day, divide what I had before I started vs after, get a percentage then use that percentage for the miles covered for the day).
I feel freaking good.
I was soaked though. Shirt completely. But even my bottoms ha...

GET OUT, GO! BE A LITTLE BETTER TODAY THAN YOU WERE YESTERDAY

@NCLivingBrit Dude, The fact that youre TRYING to get started is awesome. We're all here to help you and motivate you. Keep posting with updates.

Personally, I dont expect big changes fast, but Im just trying to be a little better than before.
Make one more good decision today vs what I would have done a month ago etc. Just slow progress.

For me, it's paying off already. I was over the moon last Friday morning with my weight loss.
I'll be weighing again this Friday and I hope it turns out in my favor. Fingers crossed.
But dont set too high of expectations, just modest goals

Brooks are great but pricey. I often buy the older generation. I like the Ghosts and the current model is the 14 IIRC so I look for the 13s. They are generally 60% of the current model. Once the model changes I move up one. Like most things in life I am at least 1 year behind.

I got down to 139 and won my family beach vacation weight challenge. I the proceed to eat and drink at the beach pushing me back up. LOL I think that sub 140 is not sustainable. My current target goal is to stay between 140 and 145. This is down from 165 at the height of my COVID-19 weight.

If you can eat well at home and work you can have few social days. You need that IMHO to keep you balanced. If you don't you go off the rails. Don't think of it as a cheat or indulgence. I look at it as a reward for putting in work on a daily. Losing weight is a marathon not a sprint. Keep it up!

I started Brooks Addictions on model 5, $69. Now they're on model 15 I think, and $130. I but older models when I can.
