Anyone else annoyed by being stopped for no reason and harassed if you live out in the country?
HP won’t pull this crap in downtownRaleigh.
I was just stopped along with about 10 folk just east of Pittsboro on Pittsboro-Moncure Rd. I asked the HP whipper snipper if he felt guilty for harassing citizens that he had no suspicions about, as I handed him my permit & license. He smirked told me to give him my license (as I was already holding it out the window for him) walked around to look at the plate then walked back and tossed them back in my window onto the floor. I exclaimed “You’re a ( female genitalia!)” And drove off calling #hp to report the punk.
Forgive me for forgetting to ask his name to share with you.

I've been stopped a few times over the last couple years... Doesn't really bother me.

Hit a checkpoint at the county line not too long ago. Four deputies, two squad cars straddling the Moccasin Creek bridge. Everyone was civil; as I was getting ready to pull away, one young deputy asked me what my rear window decal meant. Before I answered, I asked him if he grew up around here and if his family was from around here (yes to both). Only then did I decipher "YGH! " :D

I hit one not 30 minutes ago on 29 north of Kannapolis coming back from the club. Asked what we were stopping for and he says "license check". As I'm getting my license out I inform, he looks at the license and gives it back and says to have a nice day.

I'm like @SPST , get what you give. You gave him a attitude and you got one in return. So what's your complaint going to be about??

The last 2 I've been through I didn't even completely stop. As I approached with license and CCP in hand I was waved on through. I appreciated it and readily know what they were looking for at both these Hwy 109/I40 interchange checks...

These LEO’s do not want to be doing license checks. Yes, there are times it’s a fishing expedition but more than not they are looking for another reason you’ll never know. As said above respect gets respect 99% of the time ... it sucks to be inconvenienced for a couple minutes but when they are looking for a person who’s skipped out on a child custody case battle with the kids it can help.

Big checkpoint last year 11PM in Raleigh near NCSU, RPD, HP, WCSO, rv with command post, dozen cars lined up, same number of patrol cars. Two cars being searched and a few people detained.
By the time RPD got to me had permit out first, told him. I'm not armed, I work at the university, he did did ask for license, have a nice night. I also have amatuer radio tag.
I don't like it but they are doing their jobs until the law is changed.

Hmmm ... sounds more like DUI checkpoint and the BAT Mobile testing and processing unit.

20 years ago at HP check near our home one guy took off in his Jeep but stopped a mile away and waited for trooper. Trooper ran in the mud to get to his patrol car and was not happy.

Understood, that’s not why they were there.
It was an entrapment setup, I saw them set up a half hour earlier.

Last time I was stopped in a check point like this I took out my license, registration, and my CHP. I informed him I was carrying and he never said a word. He looked at my paperwork and said "have a nice day". I think maybe the bad attitude you came off with might have been the problem. It's had to believe at my age and all the times I've been stopped for something I never seem to have these types of problems. As someone already said what you give is what you receive.

Not mentioning the sweet attitude of the OP, I feel like the point trying to me made here is being stopped and having to show "your papers citizen" without a reason. To that, I agree. I think checkpoints are fishing expeditions. I already pay enough in taxes to use the roads.

I was polite whem I asked, with a smile, “ do you feel guilty?”
I understand they have to do their job.
A friend of mine was a trainer for NC HP, I got a bunch of GREAT dash cam videos.
He was a flaccid male member as a human.
For decades I’ve said I’d rather deal with the HP than anyone else because they’re professional. That punk wasn’t.

License checkpoints are unconstitutional. They are warrantless searches in violation of the fourth an fifth amendment. Should American citizen attempt to simply drive right past one, as free men ought to be able to do, the kings men will surely force them to stop. It may seem trivial to some, but this is an evil act that we have just come to accept.

You know why NCHP all wear ties?
Keeps the foreskin out of their face

HOORAH!!

Over a year ago I came up to a check point on a major road right in the middle of town. There must have been 15 cop cars there. When I pulled up to the officer they just waived the through. That night I think they got 4 or 5 DUIs. If there has been problems with DUIs in the area, I really do not have a problem with the check points.

All, stop the mud slinging and personal attacks on forum members. That won’t be tolerated, no matter what reason/excuse you think is warranted. Just don’t do it. Take that stuff to PM or a subscribed thread if you can’t act like an adult.

Yet it WASN’T a highway!

I wouldn’t have been ruffled at all if he’d responded, “I understand, and am just doing my job”
The kid went to at minimum of 2 yrs at a tech school, then HP training and still didn’t learn the basics of civility, here in the SE to boot.

You realize that they are responsible for every state road in the State right? They typically stay away from the city because the city cops take care of their jurisdiction. Just like you mostly won't see county officers working accidents in the county they always call the NCSHP. They don't just do interstates.

It shouldn’t really matter what the attitude of the OP was, the trooper is trained, paid, and expected to act professionally. If he did not, report it.

If a few words from an irritated driver at a checkpoint is enough to make him respond in any way he’s gonna need to find a new job eventually, so might as well get started.

Yes, yet I was ticked at being treated like the Queen’s plebe.

I don't like them but you are wrong on the constitutional argument. They have been upheld and they continue as a result. The reality is that you are driving on state or federal highways as privilege not a right. There is not constitutional right to operate a motor vehicle on a state or federal highway without restriction. You are "allowed" to drive the local, state and federal roadway system as long as you "follow" the rules. If you don't want to comply don't drive on them.

This thread and the beef underlining it are laughable. The moment you got a State issued driver Lic and drove your state registered motor vehicle on local, state of federal road you forfeited your right to be indignant about this kind of stop. If the OP doesn't want to encounter this type of issue in the future I suggest he stick to private roads..... LMAO

OK, then stop and talk to me when I’m speeding, weaving all over the road, have expired tags= giving LEO a real reason for suspicion.
I’ve been in Belarus under commie rule and frequently stopped hearing, “show me your papers” with a MG across their chest.
That’s Marxism, not liberty.
They’re riding a grey line of crossing the 4th amendment.
I don’t give a crap what Ginsberg’s opinion is.

Red Herring much....

Lots of things to be pissy about in this world I guess. But who was the first Person to break wind in this fart storm.
Dunno.
I pulled up with the window down, CCW & license held in an extended hand with a smile and simply asked if he felt guilty.
I was completely polite until he was a jerk and tosssd them in my car.
Treat me disrespectfully and act like I’m a criminal, l get rude quick fast and in a hurry.

I keep threatening to get a dash cam with audio. Next daily deal or model closeout on a good one, I'm buying it. Not just for episodes like the OP, all the crazy, dangerous driving I see. Will make a good "blooper" video if nothing else.
