License Check Stop

Personally I'm against fees for human powered anything. First bicycles then canoes/kayaks, need to feed the .gov monster...

You missed the point but I suspect you are ignoring it, no big deal I might be wrong. I pass cyclists that are on the side of the road and give them the proper space. It's the ones that ride three across, not stopping at stop signs, crossing lanes without notice. If licensing stops this behavior then I'm ok for it, but it won't.

Back to the regular program...

How long do you think someone would live if they regularly ran stop signs, crossed lanes without notice and constantly blocked traffic on a 17 lb vehicle?

Then you should read the word "unreasonable" just before "search and seizure".
That argument is a fail
Your unreasonable is likely not what mine is, or the framers of the Constitution
There is also that pesky Fifth, "nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law" (FYI, Liberty does include traveling down the road without being stopped under the color of law)

Last one I went through was on my motorcycle after the old lady and I went out for a date night. Came down the ramp from hwy 64 getting on 87 with blue lights everywhere. I pulled up to the trooper and he asked for my license. I told him it was in the tour pak with my chp and pistol. He said have good night and we rolled on.

privledge thing is kind of outdated IMO. How else are ae supposed to get anywhere?
I've heard this argument before from people who have lost their license and continue to drive. "How else am I supposed to get anywhere?"

That judges have upheld it is beyond dispute, just as Dred Scott was ruled and held sway for better than half a century.
Yeah... Murder is illegal, well Dred Scott was upheld for better than a half century.

Do you see how ridiculous it is to bring a totally unrelated issue out to prove yours?

Just because they have ruled so doesn't make it lawful.
That is the very definition of lawful.

You know who aren't ranting on about these issues? Lawyers. That should be a clue.

The only ridiculous argument here is yours. Dred scot deprived another of a common law right, liberty, and murder deprives another of the common law right to life.

The government has taken the right to freely move and sold it back to you. Whats more, they've convinced you your right is merely a privilege, subject to the whims of the crown.

you know, if these idiots spent half as much time just paying their dang bills (tags) as they did researching laws then they'd have a much simpler life.

I love the videos though, always get a chuckle from them.

No matter how right you may be (not saying "sovereign citizens" are) you're never going to win an argument with LEO on the side of the road. Those people are jackas*es!

You know you’ve won when they start pulling out their sovereign citizen memes.

And, you know who's a sovereign citizen when they dismiss the sovereign citizen videos.

You know I've never met a sovereign citizen that had a clean record before all their sovereignty.

In fact the last one I met had gotten a DWI after 15 years of paying taxes and had his license revoked for said DWI. Well after that it was all I'm sovereign so add the next 10 DWLR charges to his list with 6 or 7 FTA's on this charges. It eventually catches up to them all.

Over a year ago I came up to a check point on a major road right in the middle of town. There must have been 15 cop cars there. When I pulled up to the officer they just waived the through. That night I think they got 4 or 5 DUIs. If there has been problems with DUIs in the area, I really do not have a problem with the check points.
This. I dislike the principal of stopping people without cause but I don’t mind a targeted checkpoint for DUI’s in a problem area. I also completely understand the checking for a kidnapping victim or escaped convict. Any others should be stopped, but I’m not going to make my day any more difficult to prove a point that I already know the courts won’t side with me.

It's comforting to know they've solved all the real crime in the world, so now they have time to simply harass people who are going about their business.

Late to the party.

I don't mind stopping and showing my DL and CCP.
If they can catch one illegal alien driving with no insurance in those checks it was worth it.
Around herein WNC, if you see a Latino driving with a Tenn or SC plate there is an >80% chance they don't have insurance. And if you are in an accident that they caused guess who pays? Yep.
SO if this checks can either catch them or at least scare the rest of them in to getting insurance I am good with them stopping me.

Ha! Catching the illegals is the easy part. But if they aren't prosecuted or sent home by the courts what difference does it make? Inmy screechiest old lady voice of course.

We know that ain't going to happen.
But I would like to have them uninsured asshats at least off the road.

How would you guys feel if a license check point was set up and fully enforced by the regular LEOs BUT also included an ICE unit to handle in illegal aliens? Then on top of that have a couple tow trucks to impound vehicles with no insurance and bad registration or out of date more than say 90 days (honest mistakes get a citation/warning)? Heck, maybe throw in a K-9 unit for a quick once around the vehicle while the plates and registration are being checked? Make the damn effort and inconvenience at least worth something.

While it still could be called a fishing expedition they’d at least be going for the big fish not lowly minnows. Man could you just hear the left screaming about ICE, profiling, etc.

Any LEO that would participate in this type of action is no different than a NAZI! LEO's of today are to worried about money, than doing their jobs.

When one of your family members gets hit by a drunk driver, I bet you'll be the first one to say "Why aren't the police out trying to catch these drunks?"

Yes its an inconvenience. Yes- LEO may not or maybe should not have a law to just stop you anytime for no reason. Yes. I understand if I allow GOVT to abuse power and authority, I am to blame. I dislike a jack booted thug as much as the next guy. I also dislike the intrusion into or private lives by Govt and its enforcement staff.
BUT, I have been stopped a couple times over the last couple years at a check point. They were always looking for dumbass people drinking and driving. They were always polite-maybe a little to close sticking their heads in to smell for alcohol. They never gave me a hard time, Granted I did comply.

This issue is just not the break for me. Its a pain, it doesn't last long and it is proven to get some dumbarses off the roads. SOOOO... If YOU drink and drive!! Its your fault we have these damn checkpoints!!

Maybe the next time I am at one of these checkpoints, and the cop sticks his head in the window close to my face-Maybe I should ask him if he is looking for a date?

No knock warrants worry me more than a visible checkpoint!

At one point there was a bar/club that catered to non-US people that was watched for DWI’s especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The Deputies learned fairly quickly that these guys were smarter than they thought ... they’d have a couple of actually legal and sober guys kinda stumble out the front just enough to draw attention. They’d get in their vehicle and pull out usually with a couple Deputies following thinking DWI stop and possible illegals a mile or so down the highway. Once the sober guys had drawn the. Deputies off the others of questionable sobriety and/or residency were free to scamper away like cockroaches. They were not really scared of the Deputies ... they just worked around them. These Dim leaders need to understand that they’re perception of what scares illegals or such is not as bad as they think/make of it ... and we know they are screaming about it more for getting votes to stay in office.

Watching someone who is drunk get into a car and drive off before stopping them is a big no no. It's not a law or anything but when you go to court and tell them you, as an officer of the law, allowed a drunk to go on to endanger the public it usually doesn't go over well.

The blockers do not fall down or act completely drunk ... just enough to catch the interest of the Deputies while not enough “for cause” while in the parking lot or near the establishment. They also do not cross the center line, swerve or such that breaks the law ... they do drive extra slow as can be typical of impaired drivers. The blockers job was to get far enough down the road to allow the real drunks to have a chance to get going. It only took a sort time before the Sheriff doubled patrols there and the blocker play stopped working.

Side note this Sheriff did work with ICE and helped send a quite few illegals ... and still watch that bar/club for other stuff and illegals when things pop up.

"It's for the children... it's for safety.... it's for illegals.... if it' saves ONE childs life , then (insert infringement here)"

It's for the diminution of your freedom, and to exercise the power of the state.

But it does not get them off the road. My wife was with a friend and they were rear ended. Yep, driver had no insurance and the cop that did the report let the uninsured drive away.
