Now the '03-'04 Terminator thread -

Exactly. I am also somewhat leery of some '03s due to head issues regarding 4 plug threads instead the updated 9 threads, and some other concerns that I am not totally clear on.
I'm not familiar with that issue, then agin I've had no problems other than an idler pulley, thermostats, and transmission (my error).

forgive my ignorance......but why are they called terminators?

It's just the moniker Ford hung on them those two years for those SVT supercharged go fast Pony cars.

I know these aren't in the same class as a Terminator, but the '03-04 Mach 1's may be worth a look too. A lot of coolness and performance for $10-15K less than a Cobra.

For all practical purpises, it's a Cobra without a blower engine-wise with some other minor differences.

I like them, if I were looking to get another Mustang, it would probably be a Mach in dark shadow grey.

I want a Bullitt to add to my stable. Preferrably the S197 version in green
Ask, and ye shall receive. Just down the road from me maybe 7-10 miles in Holly Springs. It's been posted 25 days so who knows if it's still there. 56k miles

I grew up in high school riding around in GTOs, Chevelles, and Z28s. Even two brothers who had a late '60's Gt350 and a GT 500 respectively, but when I took a ride in a friend's new 2004 Mustang Cobra with a tune that put it around 510HP it became the quickest car I had ever ridden in. Breathtakingly quick.

There is definitely something to be said for this. I spent three years looking for a low miles LX (not GT) Foxbody in a 5.0 5 speed and finally found this. We all talk about horsepower, including me, but the little 5.0 put out 300lbs of torque and with the 3.73 aftermarket rear gears it made this thing a blast to drive. I paid a mere $7500, and sold it for $8000 nine months later.

Not as fast as a cobra, but if you're looking for a cheap, fun pony car, check out the 01-03 GT's. The last mustangs to have real gas pedals and clutch cables, and no electric nannies to keep you out of trouble.

I've got an 03, and I love it.

Yes they are. My favorite local hot rod showroom just sold a good looking low mileage example and it didn't go unnoticed by me. In fact, it's what distracted me from 60's classics.

I drive all over the place on weekends and ideally want something I trust a little more, and in this weather A/C is always welcome.

That is clean. Thankfully a previous owner of my '94 GT put some gears in it.

Is there something about the 99-00 and 04 that is different than the 01-03 GTs? HP and TQ appear to be identical. I have been keeping an eye out for nice 99-04s is the reason I ask.

They should be all around the same in that case. I may have just mis-remembered the date range.

I haven't done any motor work to mine, but it has the full range of bolt-ons. Underdrive pulleys, BBK shorty headers, off road x pipe, dual flowmasters, short throw shifter, K&N FIPK cold air intake, and a programmer.

I believe yours has 3.55 rear gears too, which is perfect for that car in my opinion. I think my 1992 had 3.27 from the factory, but was changed out to 3.73 by the previous owner which made it a blast to drive, but if I'd had my druthers I would have preferred the slightly longer legs of the 3.55 like yours.

@RedneckFur @fieldgrade

While '99 to '04 is the same body style the '01+ cars got some updates in the looks department that I think are worthwhile. Bullitt wheels, smoked headlights, more aggressive hood scoop, different style rear spoiler, and some switches for TC and fog lamps moved around. All GT's in these years should have factory 3.27 gears.

Compression ratio was also bumped slightly in '01 (9.0 to 9.3 or 9.4 if I recall right.)

Can anybody range me on what kind of dough you can spend to dyno-tune one of these '03-'04 Cobras? Fastlane Motorsports down towards Benson enjoys a good reputation not too far from me. They specialize in Mustangs. @dubnali

Also, convertible sailcloth tops. I wonder how much to have one replaced, both the top and professional installation? Just a range will help.

Dyno tunes will probably be around $550 +/-

Fastlane knows Fords, especially Mustangs that like odd, whining noises when you step on the gas pedal...

What he said. Also, Pro Dyno down in Rock Hill. You should ride down to MB in September for Mustang Week, particularly friday and saturday.

So I was looking into the Lebanon Ford 727 hp edition Mustang for 40k, and did see that the 727 package VOIDS the factory warranty, its Roush parts only limited warranty, so no drive train warranty at all. But they do offer a 670 hp version for the same price with Roush's 3 year, 36000 mile power train warranty. Not really a bad deal on the 670, prolly put down mid to high 500 hp numbers. Couple that with the automatic and that thing would be pretty solid. Always gotta read the fine print, lol.

sah-WEET!
I was waiting for you to say it's the wrong color. lol
Right now it has the stock exhaust, which is WAY too quiet.

Stock is too quiet, and Borla is almost too loud (my choice). BBK off-road x-pipe is great tho. Just buy some MIL eliminators to keep the CEL off and pass inspection.

Nope. Color never made a car go faster or accelerate harder. If you like it, I like it.

Congrats man, I always liked the silver. Awesome that you found one stock, completely. That's a hard find most of the time.

I don't know why anyone would flame you for buying one of those. By expert accounts it is one of the best engine designs that Ford has ever put out. They built them to be able to stand over 700 hp and go for 100,000 miles without a rebuild. All of the internals were upgraded in these 2 years with part only hot rodders put in their cars before then.

This is a really good article on that engine.

I just thought of a reason to flame you. Nothing worse than seeing an old fogie piddle putting around at 55 mph in a car like this. And usually in the left damn lane.
I had to un-invite my wife from riding in my last Mustang ever again. Too much complaining and screaming.

I drove one with MagnaFlows and liked it, but I'm open to suggestions. I had Flowmasters on the Foxbody that I last sold and I like them too, but you have to pick which flavor you want (loud, louder, loudest) and I don't know which variety I had on the '92. They came on it.

I have to keep the cats on so the Wake County Nazi Party will let it pass inspection.

It's a documented fact that Arrest-Me Red adds 100 HP.

I think I got a chubby reading that article.
You of all people can appreciate that.

Congrats on the new ride! We need video once you get the exhaust done...

I was just sitting here reading Ford's release on the 2018 Mustang GT... 460hp and 420ftlb of torque... 0-60 in under 4 seconds. Stock.

https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2017/07/24/fastest-mustang-GT.html

Blue Oval is doing some cool stuff.

You know the 2004 Cobra SVT purportedly does 0-60 in 4.5

Anything faster and I'll wreck and clog up the left lane of a freeway somewhere. :D
