Someone surveiling my house? Hmmm

GPS took him the wrong way and was trying to figure out how in the heck he was going to get to his original destination.

It has happened to me, but I had the common sense not to loiter around in front of someone’s house.
Some folks have no couth.
As an appraiser, I fairly often have to pull over and figure out where I am, where I need to go and how to get there. In the suburbs, it's easy to pull into a c-store or supermarket and figure it out. Out in the boonies, it sometimes means pulling off the road wherever possible - farm lane, driveway, logging road. The same applies to realtors, surveyors, utility workers, lots of people.

I tend to avoid properties with "no trespassing" and "do not enter" signs, but it does make me wonder what they are up to, or why they are so nervous.

In the end regarding the above, no harm no foul IMO.

About a year ago, young guy on a motorcycle parked and taking photos of the homes on my street, thought it strange, saw him week later riding into the development again. Have not seen him since.

Appreciate the feedback and info.

I'll be adding a couple more "NO Trespassing" signs along the tree line facing the road and on backside abutting to a large empty tract that gets a lot of hunters.

Why the signs / concern? Ounce of prevention worth pound of cure. We are set back from road, can't see house when foliage is full. Also, as a 10ish year old kid while out roaming back yard (up North, not in NC) dog & I found a field dressed deer. Dog thought it was awesome. Mother & sister not so much. So if some ass hat tries that I want recourse.

In NC purple paint on fence posts or trees at property line counts as a "no tresspassing" sign.

That's the reason for the signage, so people will avoid them. Having posted signs on your property does not mean you are up to something, it means you do not want people trespassing on your property for a variety or reasons. Our house is approximately 290' from the road and was broken into years ago. We still have people drive all the way up to the house to turn around and you never know what they might be up to, possibly scoping it out or planning to steal something. Had a car pull in and do donuts in our front yard and then left. Cars have backed over planted bushes and small trees and left deep ruts. There are posted signs on both sides of our driveway, 4 total, but a lot of people apparently cannot read. If I am out in the yard when they pull in, I will stop them to see what they are up to and re-iterate what "No Trespassing" signs mean and I am armed when I am outside.

My address is posted next to my driveway, so if you do not have business coming up my driveway, then stay out.

We put up signs when I came out and found a family opening my rabbit hutch lifting them by the ears and petting the goats. Asked them what they were doing and sent them on their way.

They saw the animals from he road and wanted to show them to their kids.....

Guess who has a gate and fencing now?

Hunters know that pretty much but the average person is not really that knowledgeable of the purple paint law. Also IF ever pushed to defend something and it goes to court how many people’s understanding of purple paint law will be less than posted signage.

I agree. I know what the purple paint means, but I bet a sizeable portion of the general public does not.

As for signs and gates, a property owner is certainly entitled to put them up. The extent and reasoning can range from cautious and prudent to paranoid and anti-social. Someone coming onto your property to mess with your animals or destroy something is clearly different from someone making a wrong turn or stopping to look up directions.

I took a wrong turn down a dead end road a few years ago, and at the end of the road, when the satellite dishes were about 6' in diameter, written in red spray paint said "TIME TO DIE", I could not get turned around fast enough and get the hell out of there !!! I did have a Glock handy, but still...

Just WTF is wrong with people? Fondling the livestock just because they wanted to show their kids?
SMDH...

Years back at the family farm I walked out and saw two idiots trying to walk up and pet to a fairly expensive cutting horse. She was not a kid or stranger friendly type either. I saw her ear pinned back and tail swishing … just in time to yell and get her attention before she started tap dancing. The farm had liability insurance for livestock and security measure at fences, gates, signs and such were strongly suggested on a risk assessment visit more than once.

Heres the sign at Meadow Creek Ranch when you are way too far past the posted signs lining the road. I watch the cam on my phone

I fixed them... after talking about milking the goats, the guy asked me what we did with the rabbits. Without a pause I told him we milk them too. "You can do that"? " Sure... just takes a taller milking stand and really tiny fingers" as I demonstrated the milking action.

They bought it hook, line, and sinker. I can just picture them telling it to someone else who knows they are idiots....

What they're up to is keeping thieves and poachers from coming on their land and stealing. And it isn't nervousness, it's legal justification to act in case it has to get ugly. Once you cross the threshold of a marked gate, I have no problem confronting you with a gun.

Just added this sign a few minutes ago. Had a "roofing contractor" set off my driveway alarm and drive all the way up to the house. Before I could get outside they were already turning around in my wet yard. Man driving and woman passenger, probably one of the gypsy crews that ride around, got them stopped and asked what they were doing. The woman said "we thought you had 3 tab shingles on your roof" and I told her that it did not matter what was on my roof, that they were trespassing. I asked her if she saw the 4 POSTED signs they drove past and she said yeah "but I thought that was just for hunting or fishing". I explained what it meant and I told them to leave and never come back or I would have them arrested for trespassing.

While I was out, I went ahead and replaced a couple of the tyvek signs that were faded and coming apart and added 6 more along my road frontage which is over 800'.

While I was putting the sign up, I noticed the yellow flag was up on my mailbox. Our mail doesn't come till after 5 - if they even stop, checked it and they had put a flyer with their contact information inside my mailbox. 🤬

Well??
What is their contact number.
We might want to call and see if they are up to date on their car warranty.

When someone I don't know drives to my house (in the boonies too) the first thing I do is take a phone pic of their license plate. I tell them it is for both my protection as well as theirs. Then I point to the cameras too. They usually get a weird goofy look and quickly leave. If they ask silly questions then I tell them that we have had strange things happen in the area and this is for "everyone's" protection and that it would be best for them to leave. What they don't know is I now have proof that they were there with a time stamp and a specific location. I send the pics to a file on my pc and the cloud. I have phone pics as well as camera pics of several others. If anything happens I turn them over to LE. None have ever returned and they probably tell their "friends" about that weird crazy man that lives down that road.

Oh, the "purple paint law" is for trespassing for hunting, trapping, and fishing only. It is not a general "no trespassing sign". It replaced the old NCWRC Registered Land Program.

Regarding the purple paint thing how does that work for those who are Color Blind? My son does not see some of the brighter shades and sometimes surprised me with what he is confident is one color vs what myself & wife view it as.

If he is about to enter land that does not belong to him, and sees ANY COLOR that conforms to this, I’d suggest he back away.

I didn't get a pic of their tag number, but I have 2 cameras on the driveway that should have gotten it.

Snow and ice can make everything look different. He was probably in the wrong place. Stopped when he realized he wasn't where he had thought he was.

Simple answers are good. The sound of hoof beats might be zebras but it's probably horses.

Some folks have no boundaries. This past summer a couple friends, the wife & I were dining out at a restaurant. After paying the bill we walked out to find a thirty something yuppie girl sitting on my Harley while her hubby stood by.
I thought my wife was gonna rip her a new one but before she could the chickie dove off the seat so fast her pants ripped. I guess the look on my pretty face scared her.

We are renting a home that backs up to a park that belongs to an HOA behind us.
There is an entrance to the park on the other side.
Homes on our side of the park are not part of the HOA and the HOA placed a no trespassing at the back of our yard.
We were surprised to see that a lot of people (most likely not HOA members) slipping through our yard to access the park, so we put up signs asking them to find a different access point and a small barrier.
A few people stopped using our yard but some just moved the barrier aside and kept going.
Next we added No Trespassing to the signs but some continue to ignore them.

Yesterday, we finally talked with the local police and was told that the No Trespassing signs make it clear we don’t want people on the property and they can be prosecuted if they ignore it, but it will be hard to catch them unless the police can see them actually on the property.

My wife mentioned that we are both considering adding a motion sensor and sprinkler, the officer laughed and said it was a great idea because we had the right to water our grass anytime we want.
Does anyone know if grass likes vinegar, Clorox, green paint, or gasoline and a match?

That is a definite no no. Never touch another man's bike or his wife without his permission.

Grass ain’t a fan of those, but I’ve seen motion activated sprinklers for bird. They work. Ask me how I know…

I’d put the sprinklers the whole length of the yard and the detector in the middle. That way there’s no escape.

To be honest you sound like the sort of person those signs are meant to keep out.
