Crabwalks? WITH rucks? You want shoulders? Cause that's how you ruin shoulders.

I have done a handful of GR events. Neither liked them nor disliked them, but realized that that paying to do those things at this point of my life is kinda ridiculous. But I absolutely love the community it has created and that it has motivated people to get out and workout and exercise. That's good stuff, those pics.

I still ruck--30#-50#, depending--but at a pace that's comfortable for me and without the extra stuff thrown in.

Groundwork is mostly without rucks, though we do the usual Go Ruck exercises like ruck presses, high pulls, bent rows etc. Usually some sandbag squats, throws etc.

I've gravitated away from the GR events as well due to cost and the price paid in the aftermath and I'm likewise not getting any younger (53 yoa)

4HR Dragon Endurance Challenge

I was by chance partnered with a female athlete that proved to be tougher than the other male participants. Plus she was light for the long firemen's carry. Never judge a book by its cover.

Event was a series of heavy carries, rucking and then completion of the obstacle course that was run earlier in the day.

I did 6 miles at Raven Rock St. Park today. 1/2 mile to the trail head and back and a 5 mile loop. There were three long hill sections. It kinda kicked my ass. Although I was running late so basically did it in the middle of a hot summer day. Kinda dumb. Neat park though. Multiple trails and picnic area. Thinking maybe going back sometime and doing one loop then breaking for a lunch and do another loop after. Similar feel on the trails to Umstead but a lot less people. Which is always nice.

Raven Rock is a nice park. The overlook at the River was my favorite spot there.

I'm getting back into this, going out 4-5 times a week 4-6 miles with a 10 lb plate. It's hilly no matter what direction I go, but I hope to work up to the 20 lb plate.

Torn between staying with lower weight and more days per week vs. increasing weight and cutting back on miles or frequency. I'm used to running where you have different runs during the week, e.g. long run on the weekend. Is there a similar concept for rucking?

You can work it however you want it. Alternating between lighter weight/more miles and heavier weight/fewer miles will definitely pay dividends. The most important part is to get out there and keep at it, though. Good on you.

It does not matter. Play with it and see what works best for you. If you get to a point where you are rucking and laughing and just have a grand ol' time you are too light or too slow.

Most ruck progression plans are similar to running plans: faster fewer miles, and a long ruck with a slower per-minute pace.

Experiment and see how it goes. No right or wrong answers.

Edited to add, if you are interested in military schoolhouse metrics, 12 miles in 3 hours with 45#.

9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

Please join us to honor the fallen firefighters from September 11th with a stair climb challenge. You have the opportunity to do as many floors as you can, with the ultimate goal of 110 completed to honor the height of the WTC towers.

We will be meeting at the Town of Cary Parking Deck by the Cary Police Department. I will be securing patches for anyone who is interested, they cost $5. I ask that anyone showing up research an FDNY firehouse that was impacted on 9/11 and come prepared to discuss the names of the fallen.
