    Do you have an activity (other than sex or sex-related activities) that brings you what I describe as a heavenly peace? In other words, the world around you could be total chaos, burning down in a blaze of fire but if you were doing this activity you either wouldn’t notice it or wouldn’t care. I am fortunate to have two;

The first one is dancing. I know this is a very female answer but when I dance the rest of the world stands still. Nothing matters but me and the beat of the song I am dancing to. Every beat allows me to feel something, whether it be joy or what I can only describe as grit. If the right song comes on (and it only happens with certain songs) I can’t keep my body from moving, even if I wanted to. Those are the best songs. This is why sometimes I will dance on an empty dance floor...it’s because I have to and I really don’t care what anyone else thinks about it because my feet are gonna start moving regardless. It is rare for me not to smile while dancing because of the joy it brings me.

My second one is being with my family. I really don’t care what we are doing: eating lunch, playing a game, or watching television I enjoy the laughs we share. And of course, I enjoy my time with my hubby after my son goes to bed. This time to connect with my spouse is so important. It’s what keeps the flame alive. It’s what reconnects us each night after a busy day. It is what reminds me that all the other stressors in life are insignificant. As @Chdamn always says “Don’t sweat the small stuff...and it’s all small stuff.” This becomes clear when I am with my family.

A range I go to during the week. I am usually the only one there when I go.
And driving to matches on Saturdays in the dark and watching the sun come up on the way there.

The view at H20 from the john.

Well it was spending every moment with my premie twin first grandchildren. They lived with me 20 months along with the mother while my son finished senior year of college. I changed diapers, marched like ants, wrestled, taught them to walk, fed them both bottles every three hours, etc.. A couple months ago he went to Oklahoma to officer school and I delivered the wife and twins to him after he was settled. Sounds mushy but I woke up every night for a month thinking I heard one crying. Very weird. I felt like there was a death for many weeks. Still can’t really get used to the quiet and no chaos.

I would say now peace comes with watching and listening to YouTube music videos. Different types of music. Mainly amateur talent. Never had any musical talent but always wanted to learn to play a classical piano but family was poor. Then raised four kids who played every sport possible and also travel sports. There all about the same age except one and moved out within a couple years of each other. Now I have this damn big house and still no piano. No room is big enough for a baby grand except a bonus room where it would be impossible to get up both the staircases. Oh yeah my kids laugh like mad because I watch all the Housewives reality shows. I love to see women hating on each other. Reminds me of three daughters high school and college years. Never realized how well men get along because we are shallow immature perverts.

My happy place used to be daily walks with my dogs through the woods but after one knee replacement that still hurts and the other knee in need of one that's out.
There was woodworking but I burned out and now I don't have a shop now that I would like to make a few things.

Competitive shooting before I realized the joy of home ownership.

    Mountain biking... now out.

    Rock climbing...done for.

Started making knives but I haven't found zen with that yet.

Food... food will always be with me.

Sounds pretty darn peaceful. I’d add either a glass of wine or some s’mores. That would be the icing on the cake.

I hope one day you can get back to those things, particularly the dogs walks. There is something very peaceful about walking with man’s best friend. For me, it’s knowing the joy my dog’s feel sniffing and exploring the world in front of them.

I enjoy the hour plus drive to Frontline Defense from Raleigh and then a few hours shooting steel and paper.
Working on our family cars is my second therapy.
I also enjoy helping my customers get their projects done at my p/t job at Home Depot.
Been doing that for 20 years.

I can understand that and imagine it would feel that way. I hope you get to visit them soon or at least get some FaceTime with them. It’s interesting that you found peace in the chaos going on around you. That is an awesome paradox.

    Theres not just one....

    I do this
    And this
Particularly through the woods and down to the pond where she fetches sticks from out in the water.

I have a place like this, too
A short snuggle with mama bear on the couch after we put kids on the schoolbus and before I leave.

Answering a blue million questions from my son while the family pkays uno or clue or whatever

It's rare, but when I can find it, an hour alone to read is awesome.

My peace comes in many forms from many places

When I was much younger I enjoyed just sitting in the woods by myself.
Now I don't have access to any place to go sit in the woods.

Now I enjoy being around my G-kids and sitting back and watching the chaos.
They are 8, 5, 4 and 3 and it tickles me to watch and listen to them.

But I miss the quite time in the woods.

It’s a pretty specific set of parameters unfortunately.

Leaving work early, listening to George Strait on a sunny day, window partially cracked, while I drive 1 hr to bow hunt on a weekday afternoon.

Traveling Hwy 8 through Healing Springs and looking at that small mountain range.

I love being in the woods, away from the sounds of vehicles or other machinery.

Hell yeah! While a soaking bath didn’t make my list, I certainly appreciate it. We don’t have one at our house so if I am ever at a hotel that has one that is a major score. So relaxing. Not sure about the Yanni though...

I enjoy my job. It's not like I ever work but go have fun about 85% of the time. Hopefully that perception doesn't drop drastically until I'll be retiring.

The closest thing for me was trying new foods. I got a little bit too good at that, so I had to quit.

I still enjoy making chili. The onion chopping is a moment of focus.

There is still much to be said with skin contact with someone you love. That hasn’t been part of my life for a while either.

    What’s your Peace?

    1) Up way before the sun, when everything is still, sitting on my front porch with a cup of straight coffee and a smoke....and yeah; I still enjoy it even when the temps are like they have been here for the last few mornings.

    2) Always the last one to bed. Make my rounds and check on everyone...the wife, kids (yeah, they're 19, but I still check on them like I did when they were little) and the dog. Puts into perspective just how lucky a b*stard I am.

Reckon those two are my Zen.

A place in the woods is like a lot of other things in life, each has to find their own place.
Bill has his and one day I may find mine again.

I used to climb a lot. Skiing is my zen. Campfires. Deer hunting. Riding my bike.

These are the places where my worries leave me and I can focus on the moment.

Water is mine. Sitting on the dock just watching the way the Sun or Moon dances on the water. I’ll also take sitting on a river or creek bank watching and listening to the water flow.

Totally agree. I love reading but it always seems to get put at the bottom of my list of things to do. Reading on a balcony that is beach side, listening to the waves crash in, during a beautiful sunset, that is heavenly peace.

    I have two as well.

We bought a travel trailer about 3 years ago and camping has become a priority for us as a family. A weekend in the mountains or to the beach, excellent. Especially in the mountains when we go somewhere WITHOUT cell phone coverage. Those trips are amazing at shutting down all the "chaos" of daily life and bonding as a family.

My other is turkey hunting. There's just nothing like being in the woods in the Spring with one of my best friends or solo. So peaceful and relaxing.

Actually, there's a third. I do seriously enjoy some one on one time with the wife. Just hanging out listening to music, talking (or not) with a few beverages and a firebowl.

Most outdoor activities bring me peace, whether it’s time in a tree stand waiting for dinner to appear, time in my kayak hoping for a double digit bass or even activities like running a chain saw. I love it all and time creeps by.
