You are Perfect in both respects. We hope you'll come visit The Battery Oaks soon!@Happy Birthday RS!
We've never met but most folks say you should should be up for Sainthood!
The others are too full to talk!
Battery Oaks oozes peace. It is hard not to be there and feel the weight of the world just melt right off of your shoulders. Of course, I am sure it has a little something to do with the kind hospitality of the two owners, too! You spend just a little time with @BatteryOaksBilly and @RS and you leave feeling like part of the family.Today...50 degrees overcast...folks on the way...good conversation between good men. Laughter, food, coffee, gun smoke, gun lube. Men with hard hands shaking hands with men with soft hands.
This weather, with boots and long sleeved britches, vests and big hats and the smell of leather from well worn holsters.
The South is my fortress, Horry is my permanent residence, Battery Oaks is my safe place.
Today is @RS birthday. Born in 1966 she is 3 years older than my daughter. Ronnie Sue is my rock.
@Chdamn's Wife used a phrase a while back that I have stolen. I can't imagine a spouse hearing anything that would ever make them feel more loved. Amy said....He makes me a better person. 6 words that express All a person can hope for in a mate.....@RS makes me a better person. Happy Birthday my Darling.
Hadn’t thought about a puzzle, but it really does take your mind off of things.Puzzles. The 2,000 piece kind.
There's something so freaking pleasing about putting them together on a table. I guess cause I started doing it with my grandma when I was a little one, but I still love doing them today.
When the pandemic first started @Chdamn and I would go to the park and walk, while our son road his bike around. I am not sure he realizes how much I loved those walks. Then we found frisbee golf and started doing that as a family. Not as peaceful as the walk but it is fun and something we can all do together. So, yes, I am with you on walking. Hope you can keep setting aside time to walk.I desperately need to find a new one. I don't think I currently have a one.
Fishing Kayak on a quiet piece of water but I never go anymore.....
Full moon rides on the 4 wheeler but I don't have one anymore and I'm too responsible to take off down the road on one now.
Range time is always great but don't want to burn the ammo now. I haven't been in a month or two.
Been shopping firearms this year which I've enjoyed but now I wake up worried about money. (I have no need to worry, probably guilt)
Love spending time with my wife and I've been working from home since March so that's been great.
Went for a brisk walk yesterday, 2 miles @ 14 mins a mile. I did enjoy that quite a bit. Although I should choose something other than RUSH to listen to. Look forward to doing that again and my scale says I need to do it more often.
Maybe this is why I have hypertension? LOL
Looks so peaceful!Kayaking. We have a house in Sirf City on one of the canals. I'll paddle out at sunset by myself. Here are just a few pics.

I usually include the nose of the kayak in my pics because friends and family used to accuse me of showing them stock sunset pics. Ha!
Amy, this is Exactly what we hope for when folk's visit. Thanks!!!!Battery Oaks oozes peace. It is hard not to be there and feel the weight of the world just melt right off of your shoulders. Oh yeah, disc golf, I used to love it. Competed some. I haven't thrown in a year or two. I should find some time to do that, great exercise. When the pandemic first started @Chdamn and I would go to the park and walk, while our son road his bike around. Thank you for those sweet words. I don’t know where I would be with out in my life and don’t want to find out. Because of you I am who I am and I love you for being who you are.Today...50 degrees overcast...folks on the way...good conversation between good men. Laughter, food, coffee, gun smoke, gun lube. Thank you. It’s been a weird year built a good one.Happy birthday @RS! Sending birthday hugs your way. Hope this is your best year yet!
Today at the Thanksgiving dinner, Abby was all dolled up. This young lady is all girl and never dresses like this. When we got there, I was the first to see her and told her that I had to get a picture. She had put a flower in a vase for the table and posed with it. She is wide open all of the time and later on, I saw her sitting by herself. I went to her and jokingly asked if she was in time out. She said no, she was resting because her feet were hurting from the shoes. I asked her why she wore them if they hurt. She gave me a look and said, "Because they look so good with this dress, that's why."I don't have any grandkids of my own so, I borrowed one. This is my niece's son and he's a great kid. He and his sister have brought me a lot of pleasure. She won't stay still long enough to get a picture of her. Haha Maybe later.

I can totally relate! I, too, am guilty of wearing heels that hurt but have put up with it because they look so darn good with my outfit! She looks precious btw.Today at the Thanksgiving dinner, Abby was all dolled up. This young lady is all girl and never dresses like this. That got me in my feelings. I know the feeling. I keep hoping to eek out a few more years of snuggles and hugs.
About once every week I get up very early and have a few glorious minutes when my coffee is hot, my dog lays her head on my lap, I don't have to pee and the youtube video I'm watching doesn't start with an ad.
My life is pretty great all the time, but these moments are transcendent.
Hope you get a chance to get to the beach soon. I agree on both. I disagree with the school districts that do away with the arts. I has the pleasure of seeing “Lion King” at Tangerine Center. I sobbed at the opening scene. It was so magical. The ocean, a beach. Listening to waves hit the beach, a sound since time began. Heaven on earth.
A second place would be music, usually classical or jazz. Can move me to tears.
I understand what you mean about the mindless rote work. You don’t have to think about it you just do it.What's my peace?
That's a thoughtful question.
I find peace in several things. Like mindless, rotework. There's a zen to it, a break from so much else that demands our devoted attention. And the beauty of it is there are so many tools that take the actual "work" out of it and allows us to accomplish so much in the process.
Like when my wife goes out and I get in a cleaning mood. Toss a load in the wash, then go clean the kitchen for a while. Put the laundry in the dryer, start another load, then clean the bathroom.
Then pull the dry clothes out, put the next load in the dryer and start a third load.
Now I'm just sitting in the couch, folding clothes and watching TV, happy to have a clean kitchen and bathroom behind me.
This, of course, is generally the point where my wife spoils things by coming home and saying something dumb to break the mood, like "Why's the TV so loud?" or "Why are you sitting in the couch?"
Rotework is also what I do when I've been wound up over something, whether a stressful day, family health issues, and yes... when my wife gets on my nerves. I once painted out the entire interior of the house next door to my in-laws in one day as a stress reliever when my wife had seriously gotten on my nerves about something. Edging, trimming, and rolling paint puts me in that zen state.
Reading books. Woodworking. Fixing something (that isn't critical). Fishing. Riding my bicycle. A road trip just for the sake of a road trip. Doing something with my family.
This one’s been a hot second. I’ll update it a bit. He’s grown up a tad and we’ve added two more.I have a couple, my cabin, middle of nowhere, campfire, maybe a few snowflakes and a JD and Ginger. I used to spend a lot of time here with my dad and brother, not so much now that the Old Man has passed away. I’ve been up once since he died, I’ve got to make a better effort. Maybe when my grandson is old enough to go. He’s my other favorite!

I know that when the house is clean and organized I physically feel better. I don’t know that I would have identified it as peace, but there is definitely something satisfying about things being in their place.
We worked all day Friday cleaning house. The grandkids showed up on Saturday night and the house looks like it’s been pushed off the foundation! My wife is like that too. She's got the neurosis where she isn't happy if the house isn't clean. Not that she just feels better, but she can't feel good without things being put away.
I prioritize very differently; I like to do the minimum then sit down.
