Picked up this customized Wingman recently online (along with the black Pioneer I posted earlier)
The guy did an acid etch that he called a 'leaf pattern'
I dont know, but I like it.
I will say, as I did over on CSC, the Leatherman Wingman is one of the best tools that they've ever created, in my opinion.
First is the low entry price - when they first came out you could pick one up for about 20-25 new. NOW you can find them used for 10 - 15 bucks.
This one, for example, WITH the black ALOX pioneer (aluminum scales vs standard plastic) was 30 shipped.
So under 20 bucks for an American made multitool.
Awesome.
Then we get to the fact it is a OHO blade (one hand opening), very handy as that is the most commonly used tool on a multitool.
The Wingman isnt loaded down with a ton of tools, but it has all the right ones and even one that no other LM has other than its sister tool, the Sidekick - clamshell opener.
Its a tool designed to open those pesky plastic packages that so much comes in these days. Its very simple blade/hook thing that is safe to use, dont have to worry about getting stitches if your hand slips or something.
This, along with the SK, both have the sping-loaded pliers, which want to open up the pliers, not a bad thing when working.
If you are thinking about a multitool purchase I would first point you in the direction of LM, great customer service and made in America! I had a Surge that I took to their store when in Portland, the guy handled it for a second, saw that the handles were a bit loose and grabbed another Surge and apologized for the inconvenience.
But then I'd ask what you were looking for, and, more than likely, point you towards a Wingman to get your feet wet in this world.
From there you can look into the other, similar tools
Some might not like this look, but I like it, adds character!
