What did you do on the Rifle Range today?

Took a trip to the range today with @zac_cherry and believe I shot my best group ever. This is a three shot group at 100 yards using my Savage model 10 in 308. Load was 175 SMK, 43 grains Varget, Federal brass, and CCI standard primers.

Been working on a consistent trigger pull, which has been a challenge! I often find myself jerking the trigger and have to think about it when shooting. It’s getting better the more I practice.

@303hunter he didn’t believe me when I said he was making the same hole bigger 🤣

Got up with some friends yesterday (I call them the "Shallotte Gang, ) and did some fun shooting at 700 yards. Wind was moderate which added to the challenge. A very nice private farm with a berm to shoot off. I was shooting a pretty hot load in my .284 and sure enough the case got stuck in the chamber. :( Always have a backup! So I ended the day with the old venerable .308. A good time was had by all. A lot of interesting calibers too. Off the top of my head there was a 260, 243 AI, as well as .284 and a few 30's.

Woodys this morning on the 550 range. The star for me was the Long Branch #4 shooting FN 1981 .303 ball. Got consecutive hits at 550 yds, which for a 81 year old rifle, shot by a 70 year old man, shooting 43 year old ammunition, was gratifying. The scope is a 6x so estimated elevation past 300 yds was employed.

The Mini 14 did less well. Something changed since I shot it last, and it's going to need some paper target time to find the zero again. It probably has to do with removing and reinstalling the gas block previously. It was shooting well after that but perhaps something settled or loosened after sitting for a couple months. 1000021327.jpg

Finally got my first rounds in with a project Ive been working on. Stripped Mosin receiver with new target barrel and a KPYK chassis. Big bullseye with cheap steel case, smaller with S&B match ammo. I like weird guns and had the opportunity to build the best bubba Mosin I could without destroying a complete one.PXL_20240502_164311626.MP.jpgPXL_20240502_162726612.MP.jpgPXL_20240502_165810655.MP.jpg

Took my Martini Cadet in 357/38 Special for a trip to get it zeroed, or at least close to a beginning of a zero.
It was all fun and games until I started messing with the 357 Magnum, the change in recoil impulse made my scope move in the mounts.....
So after I reset it in its mounts, it's back to the range.
Anyway, here she is.........

I don't know where they got the cadets that used these, but their arms are longer than mine have ever been.......

Took my new AR15 build to the range today and was very pleased with its (and mine) performance. Build includes a 20” 1-8 Ballistic Advantage 223 Wylde barrel, 4-14 Athlon Talos scope with Athlon 20 moa mount. Still breaking in the barrel, and it gets better every time I shoot it.
