Would anyone be interested in a guitar/musical instrument sub section?

@GreatGazoo already mentioned it, but Iommi makes his own fingertips out of plastic.

Also, look up Django Reinhardt for some inspiration.

Iommi should have played at least once with Badfinger! Mirror image SGs on top of the pun.

I was thinking I might want to explore playing bass as well. For a guy who is only familiar with 6 string guitar, what’s the difference in learning to play?

I have a little Squier Mustang short scale bass if anybody is looking. 100$. Fun little bass but I snagged a Jaguar and like that one better. Like new with box etc.

Bad pic, but here's my two little tube amps. Silverface vintage Champ and a custom Hamster 1/2 watt head.
Pedaltrain Jr. board.
This is just for home noodling and recording. I suck but I enjoy recording and dicking around.

Here's my new guitar project:
Rossen guitars dinky style body, made here in NC. This is nice flamed heavy ash.
Warmoth 24 3/4" scale birdseye neck.
Gotoh 510 trem & Planet Waves locking tuners.

Stalled on this project a little. Need to drill out trem stud holes slightly and would like to sculpt the neck joint a bit, but don't have the tools. Need a drill press and whatnot.
If anybody in raleigh/cary/Apex has any wood tools and skills, let me know. I'll be your close personal friend forever.

Here's a wacky guitar I am sure nobody has seen before. I like wacky shapes and different stuff. Millions of strat/tele/les pauls.

Name who made that body and you get a prize.

Very cool. Have no idea who made it though.

Can I get a hint?

It was made by a guy who was sued by Michael Jackson and owned Kramer guitars originally. Was responsible for the aluminum necks Kramer briefly made.
He started another company that made aluminum necked guitars as well. This body came from one of those guitars.

Ahhhhaaa! Was it Wayne Kramer? I thought it looked vaguely familiar. I had one of the aluminium neck Kramer basses for a while. It was a very aggressive sounding beast.

I just picked up a Washburn acoustic because I thought I would get back into it. Got it home and realized my left index finger where I cut the tip off several years back is to fat to only hit one string.

Same finger...I cut the tip off with a circular saw, but it only took the meat off the tip and part of the nail...I can’t fret with that finger, because there is too much “overhang” from the nail and not enough meat on the tip of my finger.

I picked up some silicone finger guards from JoAnns...folks who do a lot of work with hot glue guns use them to prevent burns.

IIRC, a bag of 4 runs about 5 bucks. Through trial and error, trim here and trim there, I was able to craft a “prosthetic” finger tip that allows me to fret with my index finger.

Pick up a bag and try it out...may work, may not, but it would be a relatively inexpensive gamble to see whether they’d work or not.

After much hand wringing and some wood work help from @bigfelipe , I attacked the body with red Transtint dye. Turning out better than I had hoped. Gonna steel wool this last coat and proceed with some layers of clear truoil. Hoping for a thin satin finish. Need to get some pickups.

Love that birdseye maple fretboard!
And the curly grain on the top of that axe!

Ok the Gretsch is the official FIRST Nashville Classic ever made lefthanded and just prior to the Country Getnleman moniker.

The next is a 2011 Carvin CT6 I had made with quite a spec list.

‘08 Martin 000-28 that I refurbed after a house fire in 2011

‘01 Standard Strat also refurbed from that fire.

That house fire killed my drive for guitar for about 9ish years. This year I have fully gotten back into it. That Gretsch is my newest addition, and yes, all of the guitars are upside down!!

Cheers!

Beautiful stuff ! @brentona
The 000-28 and Strat just have major mojo and a story now. Are they fully functional? What kind of music do you play ?

Howdy!
Those two instruments still play and sound phenomenal! The tuning heads on the Strat get a little tight you just have to man handle the Strat’s low E really. They look really interesting. Especially the Strat which is now a rust bucket.

The Martin is still a big brassy mid punch with tight lows and shimmering highs. Definitely the king of Acoustic in my book. My specific strat has ALWAYS had a terrific voicing to it and still does.

For music I play a lot of finger style chord melodies on the Gretsch and Martin. The strat is right at home spanking out funk and blues. The Carvin handles over drive tones really well, plays a nice clean jazz tone and also has coil taps if you pop the volume pot! I’ll see if I can toss up What a Wonderful World on the Gretsch. Hang tight

This doesn't display any sort of playing prowess, but it does a good job at capturing some open sounding tone from the Gretsch

I REALLY wish that I had all of my mics and electronic gear that got dumped in the fire.

this video in NO way captures the round tone of this Strat. Room feel and sound is heads and shoulders above the recorded sound.

I don't play near the level I used to, but I still get a kick out of it!

So...I really need to step up my game. I just saw another guitar that I would really like to have.....and I can play like a handful of songs....jezus man, GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome) is as bad as a gun habit.

I own maybe ten more guitars than number of songs I can play all the way through. Is that a problem? :D

i don’t see ten guitars as a problem.
Heh!

I think I have 8 guitars. I will go YEARS without even touching one. I am in a constant state of rust.
But I enjoy them as objects. And, I enjoy home recording and messing around writing stuff. I definitely need to thin the heard though.

Same with guns. Got more than I need. And I am certainly not Jerry Miculek!

There's nothing wrong with lots of guitars. People collect far less useful things, and guitars can appreciate in value too if you're educated about what you're investing in, kinda like guns. Handbags and shoes, not so much.

This is where I go wrong. I don't have a lot of interest in the Strat/tele/SG/LP paradigm.
I like different guitars. And putting guitars together. So, they don't ever escalate.

The only guitars I have seen outpace inflation are vintage guitars that are horribly expensive to begin with. Kinda like guns. Sure, MP5's will go up in value. But they are already unobtainium to a guy like me.

But I agree: there's worse stuff you could spend your money on and no matter what, they do retain some value, and some retain very good value.
