Texas church shooting

I carry at church. Pastor carries around the church during the week, i assume he has his revolver under his robes on sunday. I hope other people at my church have their sidearms. Its not an open topic of discussion. We have talked about doing a shooting outing as a fellowship activity. I do think we should be organized on a security/emergency plan as a whole at our church.

Found it. I need to find a YouTube copy too:

http://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2017/11/06/cousin-of-man-who-shot-gunman-bts-nr.cnn

EDIT: CNN in typical Fake News fashion has edited the above linked video down to 2:00 eliminating over a minute of the interview.

According to this account the shooter actually car jacked another vehicle to escape the area and took off with that person still inside!?! First time I've heard that stated.

Untrue secondhand statement by the interviewee or blatant omission of facts that don't fit the narrative by LEO's?

Thanks for posting that.

So, local laws and enforcement worked (denied his application for a license) but the Feds screwed up (AF failed to enter his crimes into the database) and the left wants more government involvement? Makes sense to me.

With all this info, plus the fact that the “good guy with a gun” was a former NRA instructor who used his own AR to stop more people from being killed or injured, I wonder how soon MSM will stop reporting on this incident (like they did with the other church attack)?
No problem, the hero will be on Fox and other friendly media as well as the internet.
I hope Gov Abbott and Pres Trump recognize these two men for taking action.

In 1966, the Texas Tower shooter started his attack, citizens ran to their trucks and cars to get their own rifles
to keep the man pinned down until law enforcement could arrive and take action.

That's not the NYT. That's the New York Post.

Well that headline might have been the Post but I'd just read the same thing in the Times. I do indeed know the difference ;).

I know a few people that believe that No Weapons have a place in a church. Not saying that I agree with them but that is how they feel.
Yeah. Ask them about that now.

"The shrewd one sees danger and conceals himself,. But the inexperienced keep right on going and suffer the consequences." -Proverbs 22:3.

I’m a pastor. I carry at church. As the pastor in “The Patriot” said, sometimes a shepherd has to fend off the wolves.

Mr Willeford, you did a great thing, given the circumstances.

The fact he could make TONS of money by any of those big news stations standing in his front yard. But he did that interview instead. And that wasn't prompted, that was raw journalism.... Just let the guy tell his story.

A lot of the comments are about the brand of rifle the good guy used. When it comes out there probably be a run on them. It'd be cool if it was something like a 30-30.

Yeah, I'm dying to know, too. If it was a 30-06, the perp's body armor wouldn't have been worth spit.

Or the car, for that matter.

And the rifle that was probably shooting it likely wasn't even an "assault rifle".

“The Air Force has launched a review of how the service handled the criminal records of former Airman Devin P. Kelley following his 2012 domestic violence conviction,” the Air Force said in a statement. “Federal law prohibited him from buying or possessing firearms after this conviction.”

Umm...no sir, no it did not.

From the interview the Hero used his AR with an EOtech, he engaged the shooter approx. 20 yards,
took aim at the unprotected side area and hit him twice, while taking rounds from the shooter using a pistol.
He used the pickup truck in his neighbors driveway for cover.

May have prohibited, but didn’t prevent.

There was so much win in that, that I don't think we can fathom the impact.

Absolutely....a ton of 'take-aways' in that interview

Especially when he made a point to mention just how crucial it was for him to be armed with a rifle in that situation.

Bingo.

Except in this case, it didn't even prohibit, what with the fact that nobody entered his disqualifying criminal conviction and all.

This is a perfect example of having laws on the books but not enforcing these charges.
Edit**
We don’t need new laws, we need better enforcement of federal gun laws already on the books. Problem is nobody wants to pay for prisons and democrats would cry about the demographics of enforcing our current laws.

My guess is that they have a clause that denies a CC permit for an other than honorable discharge like they do here in NC I believe, and that is what flagged him.

It should have prevented him from breathing anymore after he purposely fractured his baby's skull. Same problem we have with civilian criminals, slap them on the wrist and turn them loose again.

Holy crap. The church videos their service. FBI is reviewing the video of the shooting. That has to be awful.

450+/- rds fired.

Per NPR this am.

That's 15 30 round magazines. Sounds exaggerated to me.

How long was he at the church shooting?
Long enough for the guy who stopped him (who lived almost a block away) to 1) HEAR the gunshot reports 2) have his daughter come in and say she thought there was gunfire 3) have his daughter leave in her car, and then come back and report (while he got his rifle and ammo from safe and load up at least one mag). 4) go over to the church (on foot?... I don't know the details, but he had to get another ride to follow the guy).

That seems like enough time to me. I dunno, though. Don't claim to be an expert here. He would have to have had a vest or something to stuff that many mags in, though, Like @Geezer implied

I don’t doubt there may have been enough time to shoot 15 magazines. I find it hard to believe he carried that many and had them convenient enough to do repeated reloads without someone being able to interfere or escape.

Mag changes out of a rig are fast. Out of a sack o mags not so much.

450 rounds fired in the tight confines of a relatively small church sanctuary with 50+/- people inside I would have expected more fatalities. He must have truly been just spraying ammunition and not actually choosing targets.
