Did You Go Shooting Today

I started prepping the Wizard today. No clock, just draw and point shooting from 3-5-7-10. My LC9s from the pocket and my Commander from iwb. . A couple rotations with each felt pretty good and was able to just fire on instinct instead of using the sight from the get go, unlike Saturday..
9 out of 10 were hits, need to work a bunch on the 10 yard double tap and then start looking at times..

I also need to raise my Wizard up a foot or two and that is going to be a bit of a project because my backstop will need raising as well.

Drawing from the pocket feels like cheating, BTW.

I just got back from another day at the range!

Tried out some .357 in the Rossi, and it's not for me....I had to try though, and made it thru 3 whole rounds before I had to stop! Owww!
Shot a box of .38 at 7 yards. Excellent gun!

Switched to my Sig and did 2 boxes of .380. Low left is almost gone and I did pretty well out at 7 yards, mostly one handed. Too cold to handle much more metal, so I had to leave.

What .38s are you shooting now? Try working up to some .38 +P then +P+. Also double up on hearing protection (plugs/ear muffs) and do the .357 on an outdoor range. Also start with lighter weight .357 at 11o and 125 before any 158s. Just work your way up the power level before full .357s. You want to change shooting locations? :p

I had wadcutters the last few days. Very easy to shoot. Do I need to go for the + rounds, really? What will this help me do? This is my kitchen gun, and how will the extra + help with self-defense? (Serious question.)

I have no outdoor place to shoot yet, but my trainer and I will be outside soon, he says. I'll see what they have in .357 and start slow, but the guy who gave them to me today knew I had never shot any before, so I hope he gave me the "mildest" ones he had. The box isn't handy at the moment, so I can't be sure.
And do I really need to shoot the .357? Cost-wise isn't the .38 better?
Won't the .357 go right through a bad guy and into the next county? I never thought about needing to know about these rounds. (I'm also serious with these questions.)

But I did save the cases from my revolver today, as someone suggested I should!

Do you need them? No, but the faster the bullet goes the more upset and penetration it has. The .357 125gr JHP has some of the best one stops in actual shootings. Yes a .357 can over penetrate (158 gr JSP) but so can a .38 with the wrong bullet ( ie 158 gr LRN). Its all about selecting a proper velocity, bullet weight and design that you can handle. Don't let me push you into something you don't want, just opening the doors to increase power that your revolver is capable of.

I appreciate the information. I think I'll eventually try some "lighter/easier" 357s but the ones today kinda freaked me out...it felt like I was shooting the Taurus again. Not a good thing!

I'm sure my coach will head me in the right direction on that sort of thing at our next lesson in 2 weeks, and I'll tell him about your suggestions.

He's trying to explain to me about grains and stuff lately. I'm not sure I'm getting it, but I will, sometimes it just takes me a while to grasp something as new as these concepts.
I do want all the power I can safely handle, though! Lol.

Drug most of my single action revolvers & my .41Mag Henry out & shot 'em over the chronograph. Got a mild-ish 215gr .41Mag plinker load at 1100fps, a pretty stiff 240gr .41Mag load at 1250fps & a 200gr .357 Maximum load at 1450fps. The Henry clocked 1450fps with the 240gr load. Not a huge jump from revolver to rifle, but 2400 likely burns a little fast to take full advantage of the barrel length. I might try some 4227 in it at some point to see what it'll do, but not too worried about it right now.

First time out with the 6 1/2" .41 Blackhawk & it is relegated to plinker loads unless/until I can convert it to a Bisley or Super Blackhawk Hunter grip frame. It's a joy to shoot with the milder load, but the bottom corner/heel of the grip frame jabs the hell out of the heal of my palm with the full-tilt loads.

.357Max is a hammer. Wow. Very accurate & slick gun. Recoil's a handful, but on par with my warmed-up .41s. I really liked the feel of the SBH grip frame, but was a bit apprehensive about that trigger guard as I know it bites some folks. Fortunately, nothing to worry about & great to shoot, though I'd want a Bisley for anything 'more'.

Top to bottom- .41Mag Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter, 6 1/2" .41Mag Blackhawk, 5 1/2" .41Mag Bisley Blackhawk, 10 1/2" .357Max Blackhawk & 5 1/2" .22lr Single Ten.

Sighted in new Ruger American in .22 mag. Shot groups I will not report. If you reported them I'd think you were fibbing....

Made it to the range today with my 308. I had a few cases separate right in the middle of the case. For some reason a few months ago I bought a tool to remove the front half of the brass hoping to never use it. Well it works. Not sure why this was happening with none max loads. All cases are resized and trimmed if needed. Also, I had the rifle dead on zero at 100 yards but when I reached out to 500 the rounds were nowhere close to 2 MOA. I was using some lead free bullets with a poly tip. Wondering if that had something to do with the accuracy and separation.

Went out with a close forum friend for some much needed recoil therapy.

Went shooting today with @Toprudder and another friend. Shot the sharps again with the DZ scope. Wasnt sure if it was holding zero after turning the turret to see how far I could adjust it to. So turned it back to zero at 100 yards and took the shot. Bullseye! Then took it to the 200 and 300 and nailed them both. Then I decide to go farther. We figure out the setting at 4 and 500 yards and hit them too. Time to move to 600 and beyond. Didn't do so well, hard to see where I was hitting because of wet ground and mirage. Toprudder had fun pushing his 223 out to 600 yards, but with those itty bitty bullets we could hardly see where he was hitting and barely hear them. So he moved to the very small steel at 600 and he had a great grouping. For some reason we were able to see the hits on the little steel. And as always @Toprudder brought one of my favorites.....the 460! We have to finish the day shaking the earth.

MAN!!! I like reading about folks Shooting! Remember Everytime you go, you get a new First Hand experience about what works and what doesn't. Not what somebody heard or read, but what You saw happen when You pressed the trigger. Keep that smoke in the air!! Keep telling about it. I read Every one. I Love Shooters!!!!!

The Mrs shot one of the 32SWL revolvers yesterday, she's getting a little more comfortable with shooting.
I sent some 38s over the chrono, just to see if I need to bump them up a little.
I do.

3 gun match at 6800'. 4 different stages using rifle, pistol and shotgun. More snow forecasted next 2 days.

On this stage you knocked over a cup that had a cartridge under it (9mm, 5.56 or 12 ga) than pick up that gun. Almost tripped and lost my sunglasses.

Another stage had you shooting out the bed of a pick up truck at steel at 50, 100, 200, 300 and 400m, then engaging close at 5 m (paper), then pistol at plate rack.

The plan is to shoot today. Sitting at the PHA gate waiting for two others that are coming to meet today. Should be a fun time.

I'm glad she's getting in a comfortable place. I hope she'll come shoot with me at Jim's one day!

If she wants training, Tony is ready to take her as a student. It will be lots of fun for her, and she'll learn a lot.

Spent some time at FLD shooting 400 rounds of FMJ (reloads and factory) and 50 rounds of HST through the EMP and 250 rounds of FMJ through the PCR. Worked on 2 to the chest and one to the head mostly.

Did experience my first squib today and, naturally, it was in my new 1911. Georgia Arms 147gr 9mm using Blazer brass was the culprit. Really hurt my feelings using the hammer and screwdriver to get the bullet out but no one had a wooden dowel. Cleaned it well and inspected the barrel before deciding it was alright and sending more ammo down range

My son and I were just out there. I had him plinking on the .22 range. We were going to shoot the AR, but the bays were pretty full. He still had a lot of fun.

I stopped at the 22 range to wait for the other two since the gate was already open. Probably saw y’all shooting. :D

I tried the Wizard a few times with a Model 64 S&W, no timer. I didn't have a holster with me and I was drawing out of my hoodie pocket. The Wizard was amused.

We tried 3 new targets today. One weighs over 100 pounds and is a Manly Target. 7 visitors today. Brownies and ice cream for the lot.

I need to inquire about available properties in close proximity to the Battery Oaks...…….I'm missing out on way too many opportunities it appears.

:D:D:D
