Yep. My son and I took one of the ministers from our church who also has a son in the same grade at school. I’ve invited him multiple times through the years and it finally worked out today.
We went to PHA in the light rain and set up in one of the pistol bays to shoot steel. He brought a SR9C that he said he’s only put ~50 rounds through, a Mark II I sold him a couple years ago, and a little .25 (Tomcat? not sure but it’s in the pic).
I bought:
Glock 23
Glock 21
Rossi 22LR 6” revolver
Rossi .357 Magnum snubby
Suppressed 7” 9mm SBR
Suppressed 4.5” 9mm AR pistol
Suppressed 4.5” 15-22
He’d never shot a revolver of any kind. His son had shot a 22 rifle and some kind of shotgun at an FCA camp. Neither had ever shot suppressed. Everybody had a great time.
We kept this one all rimfire and pistol calibers and rang a lot of steel. The plan is to go back on Wednesday and hopefully get a tactical pit to ourselves. We’ll shoot a bunch of rifles that day.

357Sig, a 125gr 9mm bullet like the one you found on the ground in perfect form, but it damn sure moves the plates around like they're nothing.Yes, only 3/8” AR500 for me. I’ve never shot my steel with an AR and can’t get back far enough to feel safe doing so. I’ve bought some frangible ammo and might give that a try. It was actually @Zbizzle911 that got me searching for those rounds and I believe he’s been happy using them.
For pistols, I’ve read that the minimum safe distance is 11 yards but the steel MUST be angled WAY down toward the ground (I believe they talk about 20 some degrees minimum). I’ve shot thousands of rounds at my various plates from 11 yards and back. Once in a very rare occasion, something does come back. I’d never shoot it without eye protection and nothing had ever hit me hard enough to hurt or draw blood (yet?????).
We’ve shot plenty of .38, .45 and 9mm at my plates. I think maybe @Have gun-will travel was shooting .41 at it and not sure all the different ammo @MacEntyre has aimed at my plates. Anybody who’s shot other calibers at my steel can jump in. Come to think of it, I think @BU2scwMJL was shooting some .357 here recently.
Dont forget I've shot the KSG at your range but I managed to not destroy it by only hitting the soda cansYes, only 3/8” AR500 for me. Wildcats, grapeshot an' such... nuthin' fancy, though....not sure all the different ammo @MacEntyre has aimed at my plates.
This is not true. @MacEntyre demonstrated my plates are Twinkie-proof.Wildcats, grapeshot an' such... nuthin' fancy, though.
It was slow at FLD today. One other guy on the pistol range, and one guy at the 100 yard rifle. Before I left, I had a nice long conversation with the elderly guy at the pistol range. If I did not have to work tonight, would have been at FLD.
Spent an hour at TSA in Raleigh, 9mm and .22 therapy.
I too have the place to myself most of the time unless Paul is working the range, I'm overdue for FLD time.It was slow at FLD today. One other guy on the pistol range, and one guy at the 100 yard rifle. Before I left, I had a nice long conversation with the elderly guy at the pistol range.
Figured out how to load and fire my carry gun (VP9SK) after more than a year. The conclusion is I probably need another year with the revolver.50ish rounds of .38 thru the 66-1 today. The spring kit and thousands of rounds thru this gun have given it an amazing DA trigger. Tomorrow we find out whether the year-long DA revolver journey has meant anything.
Heck, why didn't you do something cool?Went out with a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant and we fired his minigun while it was snowing
