G's Garage

I cant say what will happen next, Ive got tons of research to do and then try to find a machine shop to make adapters, but today I picked up 4 brake calipers off an AMG Mercedes. They're made by Brembo and they be big.
The wheels that were on it were 17", so it SHOULD fit, but, again, lots of research to come

Awww snap. Now it’s getting interesting. Make sure you research stripped helicoils in brembos. They tend to seize after a period of time and need to be rethreaded.

Interesting, didnt know that.
I was walking around the junkyard looking for steering wheels, and came across this ML55 MB, and noticed the brake calipers.
Even if it doesnt work out, I'll double (if not more) my money on these + shipping.

But, ideally, I'd love a big brake kit

This may be a Subaru thing but I thought it was a most brembo things. Either way, the kit to fix is $40 and I was able to do it myself and I’m like 3/10 mechanical skills

Great information
Now to do some digging on what rotor I could use and then try to find someone that can/ will fab up caliper brackets

Go back and grab the master cylinder too. The pistons going to be much larger than your factory one to move that many additional caliper pistons. You’ll probably end up needing an adjustable proportioning valve as well.

You can try calling Ken at KNS brakes. He can steer you in the right direction I think.

Is that a local company?

Wow, didnt even thing about that. Will I need all of it, the resevoir and everything or what?

you might not even be able to use it…but at least you’ll know the piston diameter. Might end up looking to the aftermarket for a BMC that would work without a lot of headache and fabrication.

Wondering if a different toyota would be able to accommodate.
Ive got a PM going with a guy on a MR2 board that does BBK, trying to gain some info

Possibly. Tundras, sequoias, and all the Lexus SUV’s have 4 piston front brakes and some even have 2 piston tears.

Also, yesterday a big box arrived
-gen3 valve cover (I will paint or powdercoat it, bought as a spare)
-HKS turbo timer (great for hot days so youre not sitting in your car while the turbo cools down...also good for quick runs into the C-store. Leaves your car running and you can still lock it up)
-RacerX intake system. These are the best performing items for our car and I found a used one

So I started on my intake tonight. This sucks. And I have to get some longer bolts to install the bracket. So Im on hold till tomorrow or Friday.
It's nice to wrench on the car again, it's been well over a month.

It might be the lack of sleep from the newborn, but this unintentional(assuming) pun made me actually laugh.

Glad to see some more progress though.

Sort of an update:
I agreed to buy a suspension setup from a local MR2 guy today.
I hadnt planned on this sort of thing right now, saving for a paint job, but it was WAY too good of a deal to pass up.
New Koni inserts with TRD springs. New top hats on all four, bumpstops etc. Everything is assembled in freshly repainted strut housings. I just unbolt old and install new and good to go.
For the price...well, its a bit more than JUST the Koni inserts. Considering TRD springs go for 400+ it's an amazing deal.

I told him I'd see him within the week. This was all AFTER I/we went ring shopping/looking today. Get all my things in order and keep her happy to keep me happy with my car!

Yesssssss!

I'll say it - its a grand. Koni inserts are about 200 a pop. TRD springs (used) go for 400+. Top hats arent cheap, bumpstops and the little gaitor things that protect the strut rod, are, but the rest is not cheap and WELL worth a grand.

It'll be nice on my cruise up to DC after Thanksgiving. Where more money will be transfered from my wallet to a jewelry store to her finger.

Yeah that’s a hell of a deal. I don’t blame you one bit. It’s why I ended up with front brakes for mine. Looking forward to seeing you out at the track. Are you able to make it to the 13th track day?

No, I dont think so. I'm going to be BROKE!
A grand on this (plus, likely some other small things like end links etc). A ring at a few grand. Going to DC wont be too bad, but a few hundred more for the weekend. Then I got to think about Christmas. Yeah, I dont think I can do the 13th. But next year!

Bought this morning. Will start this week to install, got to finish this intercooler and ignition tune up

Bad pics, sorry. Just not great lighting in this part of garage...Got to figure out how to fix that sometime, maybe a 4' LED light in between the two bays. Anyway.

Before and after pics of the intercooler change out.

Also, this was the first time I really got to use my chromebook cart from the school as a rolling garage cart. It's got a great height for messing with parts, locking wheels. And it was the nice price of free.

Berk Tech downpipe just ordered, added a wideband o2 bung to it for future use.

That wideband will come in handy when tuning.

Well, this is the 'The Garage' section, so here we go.
Ive not been pleased, entirely, with the state of my garage since tearing down the old building out back last Thanksgiving. It just got cluttered when I had to move stuff in, I got more new stuff and it got more cluttered. It's cluttered.

Then, about two weeks ago I got inspired. A guy posted his garage mess on the Grassroots Motorsports board...wow, it was way worse than mine! But someone suggested spending 30 minutes a day, and it sounded good. Half an hour isnt too much, but it's enough time to get some stuff done without being too overwhelmed. Some days I just hit that amount, some days it's two hours +.

SO, here are some 'before' pictures.

I'm just a little jealous.. I've honestly only owned 1 house with a garage and I ran an Indy Lughts car out of it so I still didn't have space for my toys..

What I see is a lot of space to go vertical with storage.. Use it..

So, those pics, I'll apologize for the poor lighting - I took those at about midnight after a hockey game on a Saturday night. The following day I started.

The first night I just spent time going through some stuff, easily accessible, to find trash. Now, this isnt like an old cheeseburger wrapper or something, mostly just junk mail, packaging from amazon etc. I quickly filled up a trashbag that first night. Since then Ive done that again and started filling up a box some car parts got shipped in (large box, about an 18" cube). That helps.

And you might have seen my thread where Im giving stuff away - so there are currently (as of tonight) two boxes with stuff to mail out tomorrow. Good, less stuff.

Ok, now for actually noticeable change.

Lets check out the last pic I posted, it's of my father's old workbench (well, one of them)

k5wE0fN.jpg

I, basically, started there. Lets set up a clean environment to work off of.
As of tonight (12-12) here is what it looks like
Is it great? No. Is it better - HELL YES.

Today I bought a hook to put the air hose on, get it off the clamp I had on the side of the table

Op,
Nice!
This is like one of those “Dear Abby” or other chick lit things, except it’s a dude doing it. Keep it up, I am kinda inspired

Be strong, barrel ahead...even if it's in baby steps. Lol. Eventually you'll get there. I'm pullin' for ya. Looking forward to seeing your 'after' pictures!

If you’ve got the enough space between the windows and ceiling, soffet shelving will hold a ton of crap in an area that’s otherwise wasted space.

I put in something like a total of 45’ of it around the side and rear of my shop, got a ton of lesser used things up and out of the way.

@HMP if you check out garage journal, look up Jack Olsens garage. Lots of good storage ideas for a smaller garage and everything is out of sight.

A good video of it that can give the op some inspriation to work on his. I know It is a struggle for myself and would love to get to this point but have a long way to go myself.
