I learned that at the night match a PDHC years ago. I went from using a 200 lumen light to a 600 lumen one and the blowback of light colored surfaces with dark adapted eyes was rough. Surefire used to say tactical brightness started at 50 lumens and while I think that’s too dim now I don’t think you always need eye blistering output.

Surefire used to say tactical brightness started at 50 lumens and while I think that’s too dim now I don’t think you always need eye blistering output.

I shot most of the match with a little 45 lumen streamlight mini...and that was just enough light. The pictures above were the one stage that I shot with my 500 lumen nightstand light. Way too overpowering.
