King Roy strikes again...new mandates

Level B never bothered me but Level A SUCKED! A swear they always had our training in freakin’ July ... thank God we only pulled it every other year. By the time we got in the suits (we ran in 2’s with a a backup pair standing by) it was 120° in that damn thing.

For claustrophobic triggering we’d take and simply put a piece of a black garbage bag over the face shield of a full face respirator while they sat in a chair. We’d tell them to stand up and walk 5 steps straight ahead to the wall, touch it then turn around 180° and 5 steps back to the chair. They’d do that a couple times and you could see what level of control they had.
The only reason we didn't have level A was I couldn't afford the initial cost plus the yearly certification on them. Had some really good level B's though. Had Scott air packs with carbon fiber cylinders. Also had comms in each suit. Those were the good old days when the Homeland Security money was flowing like a river.

We did full suit drills 4 times a year in spring summer fall and winter.

When I was with the hazmat team on SORT, Stringer always set our drill up at Statford Metals in August. We set up on a gravel parking lot. We'd sit there under the canopy or in the trailer with masks off and suits at waist level until it was time to go on air. Could pour sweat out of my boots after the drill. Almost had to have IV fluids on one occasion. Then I dang near got sick trying to catch up on fluids. Should have gone out drinkin the night before I guess.

I hadn't considered claustrophobia being triggered by something over your face. I'll freak out once in a while, but it's usually brought on by limiting my overall movement, with the addition of limited vision.

The two latest episodes that happened years ago and years apart involved sitting in the rear seat of a two seater turbo prop (I was fine once the plane started moving and air started coming out of the vents) and sitting in the rear seat of a Scion FRS. I thought I was going to rip that little car apart. Luckily, we hadn't started moving yet and the front seat passenger swapped seats with me.

Try Level A in Iraq. I was in Tech Escort over there and it sucked!

These are the level B suits I bought for the team. Very nice suits. They may not have had a problem with the masks but when they put these on their world changed. Also knowing that they only had 1 hour tanks messed with their minds. I always made them suck down the tanks until the alarm went off, then they had to decon and doff.

DuPont™ Tychem® 10000 Encapsulated Level B Suit. Expanded Back, Front Entry. Standard Visor, 1 Layer: 40 mil PVC. Elastic Wrists. Attached Socks with Outer Boot Flaps. Double Storm Flap with Hook & Loop Closure. Two Exhaust Vents. Taped Seams. Lime Yellow.

This is close to the SCBA I bought. We elected to purchase the same gear as the county fire fighters use so that we could interchange if needed. 60 minute cylinders were great and really light.

There were multiple mandates that expired last week, right? That’s what I saw in an email we got from work. Looks like Greensboro enacted a few things, but at the state level at least 4 orders are gone.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a correlation between increased mask use and increased C19 cases...
I seem to believe this may have some legs. Those mask are getting reused and not replaced. Also nothing like breathing moist air coming out of your own lungs plus pollutants from other mouth breathers stuck in a moist mask.
