Motorcycle love

Bike needs some bling, especially on that 20 gallon gas tank .
I’ve looked high and low. Considering the sheer quantity of different tank badging the moco has produced since 1903 you’d think I could find something I liked.

If you google police bikes and look at images, the ones that don’t have actual police badging from their prior duty years, are blank.

@fieldgrade they make a cover (can be had in black also) for risers/tbars etc.

The speedo/tach location has swapped on the RK Police bikes pre 16 I think is speedo on tank and after is like your bike.
Someone posted that on HDForums just today, but here’s the dilemma. No way to mount the speedo on top of that clamp cover, without some significant fabbing/modding.

And I’m going to have to change something. Bars, or seat, or both. The ergos are just not working very well for me.

Lots of options out there. Not Harley (but obviously doesn't matter) but there's a good long thread on AdvRider about some of them. The one in the pic is Chigee

NO. I'd pay money to keep that off my bike. Other viewpoints may be, I'm told, available.

🤣
Lots of options available. Personally I run the Garmin XT2 and like it. Price is crazy though even with Black Friday sale prices.

In the mountains, nearly out of gas and no cell signal made my buy the GPS. Asked a local and barely made it to the gas station.

When Kelly and I take off on the FJR on Sunday mornings, we dont plan a ride at all. We roll out and just take our time and explore, seeing new roads, places, etc. But when it's time to come home, I'll gps it if I don't recognize anything around me. To me, it's nice to have just in case I need it.

I've also been working on little stuff for the Grom. Put some different axle sliders on it (tried something I already had, didn't like it), took all the turn signals off and put some flush mount on the front, and some super short stalkies on back. The back signals have the ascending light flash for the signal, and actually have a set up where you can wire the signal into the rear brake light. So now when I hit the brakes, it flashes the brake light, and a separate portion (two rows of leds) of the new signals flash and go to brake lights also. I figure anything more is better to get cagers to notice me. I also put a new battery in the 900, and am waiting on a new 520 chain and sprocket conversion kit for it also. Going down 1 in the front, and up 2 on the rear. Should make an already wheelie prone bike THAT much more fun, lol. Next week I'll be getting the F4i track bike back together and ready to sell, and then finally have room for the R6. I wish shops weren't so expensive, I'd rent me one and just keep all my stuff there. Urrgg I hate not having a garage.

@fieldgrade I have a Garmin XT you could borrow and see if you like it.
I might take you up on that just to see if I can see the thing. My iPhone on full bright was hard to see. Plus it’s small.

Do you mount yours to the bars?
I just installed a quadlock mount on my bars. It does not have the cordless charger. I have a USB port next to the quadlock mount.

Well, that's just backwards.

On my 2005 RK, the speedo is on the tank. It always bothered me to have to look down to see it. I never wear full frame sunglasses because the bottom of the frame blocks my vision and I would have to drop my chin even further to see the speedo. Doesn't sound like much but to me it is.

I added a take off police tach, which is mounted to the riser cover. Now I use the tach primarily as a speedo since it's more in my normal line of sight.

.
At some point in the life of my FLHP I may decide to "de-cop" it more than it is now. Part of that would include taking off the black headlight nacelle and handlebar clamp cover and replacing it all with chrome (if I can stand the price, because as it is now I can only find the parts from HD and they are quite proud of them), and painting the black side covers to match the bike.

Here’s a question. Did you just drill the clamp cover to bolt the tach to it?

It actually has it's own hard wired mount that connects to a Ram 1" ball mount. I have to remove it from the FJR anyway.... It will be a PITA I'm sure but better than dropping $500+ without knowing if it will work for you.

You can run it from it's internal battery but not sure how to mount it without wiring in it's dock.

Don’t do that just yet on my account. I ran down to Benson and back today and ran Google maps like it was intended rather than how I have run nav in my truck and my former bikes. It was more effective that way. I’ll need to see if I get used to it.

Like I said, I need to "de-install" it from the FJR anyway.... It's not being used at the moment.

What a great day for 2 wheel therapy. I may pay for it tomorrow but so glad I skipped work 🤣
Rode up to Pilot Mountain with some friends, ate a nice lunch in town and back. Total about 200 miles.

Any bike is a dirt bike if you’re brave enough

Thanks Red, for making my Wife happy and making her laugh. I started to watch this Vid, paused it and made the Wife walk all the way down to the garage to watch this. This was us back when I had heathy Wife and almost 20 years ago back before they called it " Adventure touring" we used to explore the Uwharrie Mtn jeep trails on our Honda ST 1300, a 750 pound bigassed bike on goat trails. Used to come home , $15K bike covered in mud= fun times. She watched the entire Vid, happy as can be saying things like, "thats nothing compared to what you made ride thru" Thanks again Red.
