Motorcycle love

I’ve bought two Harley tour paks, including mounting racks, lights, both one-year-only colors. I am a fan.

I have followed lots of discussion on the Amazon tour paks. For your application, with a passenger leaning on the backrest against the tour pak, you would definitely want to get the Hogworkz mounting plate. Worth the $50. And a Harley lock, because the locks that come with them are terrible.

You can get it in any color you want, as long as that’s black. I have bought XMT Moto fairing lowers and was surprised at the quality for $100. They pack them for shipment better than Harley. Likewise with this trunk I just got from XMT moto.

You can save some money with Hogworkz or Advanblack to get it painted Reef Blue, but you won’t get it in that two tone with pinstripe on your bike, like the chopped pak on it now.
I'd only run a king on trips, black is fine. Get home and the chopped pack goes back on.

For whatever reason, that detachable rack with chopped pak is nearly impossible to get off. It’s all HD parts. I had same on the red pig, and while cumbersome and awkward, I could remove it, although after doing it once, I left it on till I sold it.

I tried to take the pak off your bike once, and vowed not to try again. I would have a second set of strong arms if you decide to take it off. The right detachable clasp is just cantankerous.

I've taken it off a couple times. It's a little finicky.....

So the bars are all wired up. But it’s not buttoned up. Turns out the handle bar mounted power port only fits one inch bars, and the new ones are 1.25”.

This will require some MacGyvering.

I see a hacksaw, and some large zip ties in my future. That whole housing is cast metal, and powder coated.

Well, I got that out of the way. I got in a hurry, forgot the kickstand and laid it down in the yard today. Nobody but my wife as a witness. No damage at all. Still embarrassing as hell.

All the Jap bikes have kickstand switches.....

Could you just get a longer bolt and make it work?

I did it on the Red Pig at the brewery in front of 20 patrons on the deck next to where I was parking, yapping at my neighbor as he parked his bike. Clunk.

I paid the dealer to wire this power port under the tank all proper like, so I am disassembling the port, in hopes of finding another port that I can wire to these existing wires. They have old school spade connectors right now.

Yes I know... Probably my biggest complaint with the Harley. I freaking hate the Jiffy stand. My garage is detached, gravel drive and yard. It digs into the yard. I berried a 12"x12" stepping stone to come in and out of the fence gate.

ive read complaints on the new ones, but i like that the jiffy locks in place and wont collapse. important feature when you're kickstarting a bike

Rear shocks are 13" so it leans a little more and just seems like it's going to fall over each time. I'm trusting it a little more than when we first got it. Still makes me nervous.

The only times I have done this have been with an audience. I think we have a limited amount of attention to pay, and when other people are around they siphon off a portion of it. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Those jiffy stands can be just a little spooky. But they won’t fold up on you once properly and completely deployed.

I really dont like the "slide" after they are deployed.

Still considering some bag protection bars.

Just minor gripes for the record

I put them on the Red Pig.

Like everything else in life, somewhat of a PITA to install. But they do work.

I just discovered HD makes a power port that fits 1.25” bars. Problem solved.

Well I bought my first Harley product after riding a wide array of Japanese bikes all my life. Went all in on a new Road Glide.
It’s been 41 minutes since you posted and still no picture. Do I need to drive to New Bern and loan you my phone?

Hmm?

Well damn, thought I had another Grom. Dude had one for sail, sell, cell, sale, that had been looped in a wheelie, and only needed a left hand side peg and lever. Paint looked a little rough in the pics (but they were of it in his truck, and at night) and it needed a new rear tire. Said it only had 1051 miles on it. Told him to send a video of it running, and if it sounded good and looked good in the video, we had a deal. UNTIL, the video came over with it running and the headlight was out, no signals, wires hanging out of the front fairing, kickstand broken, tail light gone (from looped wheelie I assume), and a damn old school looking on/off flip switch where the key supposed to go. Uh, no amigo, no can do. I told him that I'd be hard pressed to believe that the bike was not stolen (said originally it didn't have a title, as it was a stunt bike, and the title was lost). He told me the vin was there, and not ground down, but that still didn't work for me. Oh well, thought I had found me a track only project, and it still could have been, but I can't even think about possibly getting a stolen bike. I hate a damn thief, and just won't take that chance.

He truly drove it like he stole it.

This is the first new bike I’ve ever bought. I’ve never bought myself a new car or truck. I’ll have it paid for in a few years
One of those was behind me the other night when I was in the truck. That new light. That 117 thumping behind me. Sexy as heck.

Thanks I went to look at a 2023 and after riding both..Either was a huge upgrade from my previous bike. The dealer I dealt with actually knocked $1000 off the 2024 to help. I was shocked they dropped below MSRP, but it really narrowed the gap and made the choice easier

I'm shopping for a replacement for my V-Strom 1000 right now. If all goes well, I'll have a Ducati Diavel in the garage within 2 weeks. (Hopefully this weekend.) I'll post pics after I get it.

Well, dang it! The deal fell through on the bike I was planning to get. Back to the search!

Got the bars wired up and installed. KST says no need to extend brake line or clutch cable with their 12” bars. Brake line is fine. Clutch cable runs out of slack just a smidge before turning all the way lock to lock. Ordered the Fat Baggers 4” clutch cable extension that I’ll install while replacing that lame plastic clutch adjuster HD came out with in 2021, with the Fat baggers EZ (all metal) clutch cable adjuster.

Cycle Gear has them in stock with FREE shipping. Fat Baggers will also ship but they charge $15 shipping.

You are going to have it all ready to go just in time for rain this weekend.

Not sure if you know this but if you order from cycle gear, you can return to the local shop so you don't have to ship it back.

You have a name for it yet?
