OK so update. I got the stock that started this whole thing today, works great and I love it. I blagged the lower from my GayR build (it's new official name) because painting weather doesn't seem to be a thing and I'm eager.

A complete new upper isn't really in the budget (none of this is, but building weird crap is about my only source of dopamine lately so...) so I made an executive decision to rob the 22lr upper from the GayR build and use it in this one instead.

I've got the Onhunt rail I wanted on the way albeit in the 13. 5" rather than the unavailable 15" length. Once that's on the upper all I'll need is the carry handle optic and to build the lighting rig for the handguard.

I'm still debating buying and carving on a Tavor cutlass grip, but the CA lower has a trigger guard as part of the casting that looks pretty neat, so I may go with one of the skeleton grips instead. Soon as I stop being so poor I'll grab a Hera CQR II for the front and the carry handle optic.

Pic for reference, that handguard is just to stop the barrel falling out and smashing my toe for a second time.

Next step, assemble the lower. But not tonight. I'm thinking I can illuminate those see thru red mags with an offshoot led from the same unit that will light up the handguard, so glowing red mag.

I am bereft. That cool muzzle dingus won't fit under my chosen rail, it's 1.5" and the rail interior is 1.33". *gnashing of teeth*

Well back to the search for a truly scifi muzzle widget.

Edit: nevermind I see it goes over the barrel. I'm guessing cutting it would look awful?

Yeah they do, but alas my rail is going to be shorter than would make that look good. I'm really loving that barrel sleeve inside the rail look.

Wonder if I could get someone to turn the one I linked down a little for me......

So I found/ordered a G36 clone carry handle for the Tippman X7 paintball gun for $15 shipped. No optic but it has the peep hole in back and looks like a window front.

If it's any good, I'll be tucking a low pro red dot underneath or in front for extra scifi kludge looks. Better than the $65 optic of doubtful construction version!

So, first things first.

Still a placeholder handguard, but the lower is assembled and the pistol grip arrived. But... the trigger isn't working and I don't know why.

If you cock it gently it releases fine. If you cock it by pulling it all the way back or racking the bolt, it clicks twice when you cock it and then won't release. I can't see anything wrong with it and if I poke something against the disconnector it clicks and then the trigger releases as normal.

I've never had this issue before and it's baffling. It's a cheap LPK and I don't even remember where I got it, anyone got any insights?

Have you done the obvious step of removing it, checking the orientation of the springs while it’s out, and reinstalling?
 
I feel like this thing was cursed before you tried to make it cursed.
Might be time to set it all on fire and start over.
 
Although I botched the trigger somehow I am super proud I didn't launch any detents.

Sure it took me 20 minutes to find the hammer in my giant laundry tower after the first goof, but no detent!

I did it inside a bag for the detents, but the fcg needs more welly, so..... Turns out the included disconnector isn't good so that's my problem. Nice it's a cheap fix.

The green matches really well but it doesnt show through in the photo. I had to design some fixtures for the wire to run through so that I could attach it to the outside.

Yeah thats exactly what I was thinking, a grip with the el wire running through it, like trimming it. I am confident we can design a 3d print grip, and the wire is real cheap. The gotcha is the battery box for the EL wire, its big and clunky and has to go somewhere. it MIGHT be able to fit inside the grip itself, that'd be most ideal

I'm planning on yanking the EL wire power box out of the clunky housing it comes in and either tucking it into dead space in the fake PEQ cheapo laser I have coming or making a smaller housing with a single compact 3v cell to replace the 2 AAs mine run off.

If I can figure out how my current plan is a ring of LEDs around the barrel inside the solid portion of the handguard to give me handguard glow and a separate translucent "dildo" with LEDs or EL wire inside that I can stuff inside my cage grip.

I may end up using EL strip for the handguard if I can find some narrow enough because it glows nicely and can be wrapped inside.

I used acrylic tube on mine to keep the wire straight where needed but it adds some bulk and clutter
 
yeeears ago i got a blue EL necklace from a candy kid. the driver was smaller than a keyfob, and it ran off a 2032 battery.
It wasn't constant on, it was a blinking thing. so i guess the power demands are different, but I don't see why it HAS to be large.

The large battery compartment in my rig is so because I'm unable to wire anything:p. Used the battery pack that shipped with the wire. :D
 
Still waiting on handguard etc, but did a bit of a test fit with the stuff I have and the original handguard the upper came with.

Starting to look pretty scifi and cursed!

However that carry handle is out, I have one with a 3.5x actual "optic" coming, the rudimentary sights on the one above are more suited to my chainsaw shotgun build.

I got the muzzle gadget fake suppressor barrel sleeve thing, but apparently they cranked the brake down as hard as they did the barrel nut and I can't get it off. I can't even get it to turn before my various vices slipped and the barrel just spun in the jaws. Maybe I need to weld it to something, remove the brake and detach it? Frustrating as hell.

Underglow parts, fake PEQ with real green and IR lasers and the proper optic should be here by next week, hopefully I'll have the muzzle device off by then. No idea when the handguard will get here.

Looking fab says me :) I've had some stubborn gas blocks like that.whqt muzzle device are you going to put on it? The cookie cutter? Did you put heat on the brake? I roasted this gas block and it never would give. Thinking about cutting a deep line across it and prying at the crack till something gives

No gas block thankfully. I haven't tried heat because I was sort of annoyed and had to stop.

Muzzle widget is this Guntech brake/shroud thing that should go inside the handguard.

Also I got the brake off with a little fire and beatings, here's the test fit of the muzzle doohickey with the wrong handguard.

The more I look at this, the more I want to get the Hera stock and just SBR my 22lr CMMG or FM 9mm pistol and slap that PDW stock on it.

It would be very ODST submachinegun.

I also imagine it would take bloody forever with all the folks taking the "free" bait stamps.

Why not put a chinesium red dot on that carry handle with a 1.93 or lower 1/3 mount. the cool kids love that upright head position.

That pdw stock is best for non folders. I agree it looks too nice on that gun. You need something outlandish and ridiculous.

Just the thing!

I think I'm going to consider SBRing my pistol and maybe suppressing it while I enjoy it as I'm currently building it. Maybe the ATF will get ousted while I pause and reflect!

The new carry handle has a 3.5x scope and I'm looking for a suitably spaced 90 degree mount to have a red dot protrude out the right side for extra tactics and tomfoolery. Plus the fake PEQ with visible green and IR lasers.

Might have to try my Wraith on here to make use of the IR laser. That would be very scifi.
