Show your harvest 2021 edition

Got this one last weekend on northwest gun opener. Big 6 that we've had on camera for 2 years with the same rack. 6XC loaded with 108 gr ELD at 120 yds. No exit that I could find, a little disappointed by that, switched from Bergers last year to ELD hoping to get exit for tracking if needed. But only 30 yd death run on a lung shot so shouldn't complain.

Any guesses at his age? Might send the jaw bone to WRC.

Caught this one slipping by my stand this morning. Had to shoot him left handed. The ruger American 308 did the job and the sico harvester kept my ears from ringing.

November 19, 7:07am. First time I ever had two in one day. Smaller one was maybe 100 yards through some trees. I’d see him, then he would disappear for a while. Finally he stopped just long enough to shoot between the forks of a tree. Sniper grade shot and probably my longest shot ever on that heavily wooded property.

Ten minutes later the larger rack came walking almost under me at my 4:00. I couldn’t get the rifle around to him while seated. I jumped up, got crosshairs on him and fired. Perfect shot right through the ticker. I don’t think of myself as a great shot, but I overperformed that day.

That is awesome.

Congrats!

Harvested my first deer this past Saturday just after sun up. This is my second season hunting. Have had a lot of action on the cameras this year, but did not see a thing during bow season. Saturday around 7:10 this 7 point buck past right by my stand! I used a grunt call, and rattled some fake antlers for a few minutes before day break, and here he came! Shot him with a Marlin X7VH .308 that I bought last year from @NiceOldDouble . Ammo was Federal 150gr Soft Point. I cut off the antlers, and now I have a real set to rattle them in next year! Family land, about 60 acres, pretty heavily wooded but we have been clearing it up pretty nicely the past 2 years during off season.

11/26/48 - The man I called dad was born. Then I came along. Everywhere he went, I went. We deer hunted, rabbit hunted, and I wanted to coon hunt, so we did that. Then something stupid happened, that's another story for another day. We didn't speak a lot for about 3 years. But I stopped by where he was hunting on Jan 1, 2011. He was using this rifle and the dogs ran a couple of does by and he shot at them. I kind of figured something wasn't right because he said his Savage 99 was too heavy. Anyway, in March he found he was eat up with cancer and and we lost him in July 2011.

on 11/26/15 I tried to kill one with his Savage but as usual I got in a hurry and didn't make a good shot. My friend and I couldn't find him and I ended up hitting my hand with his manchette and had 4 stitches to close it up. Last year I hunted more with the 99 but missed a good buck with it and then I found out the scope was off this year when we sighted everything in. So I said screw it. Let the boys do the shooting.

I had made up my mind that Friday the 26th was going to be the day. Well Thursday morning, my youngest and I let a big buck get away and that changed things around. So Friday morning I find my self sitting in the stand again with the bolt action with my oldest son. I told him later that I had something I wanted to do and he needed go back to where the big buck was. I took a pop up chair and the Winchester 30-30 and walked behind the house. I got to within 50 yards of the corn pile and sat up in some reeds. And I waited. It was nice, peaceful after the neighbors quit target practice. Then I looked up and seen a deer looking at me. She eased on out and lowered her head. I was able to get the rifle up and lined up the sights and dropped the hammer. She fell like a bag of sugar off the shelf. Then I could see here moving her head so I walked on down the there to finish her off. High front shoulder shot. The rest is history.

Thank you for letting me ramble.

Just want to say good luck to everyone this weekend, I haven’t see a thing and the only thing I have killed is time

This year, I took my best friend hunting for the first time in his life. Been friends 20 years and he just suddenly asked me to take him hunting. We do all of our own work butchering the animals and putting them in the freezer. He didn’t shy away from any of it and actively wanted to learn. I am proud of him.

One last freezer filler last week. I was sitting at the barn. She never left the field. Had the most fat I’ve ever seen on one, been eating good on all the soybeans this year. 6F26A7AD-2238-421C-B2A4-116FAE867794.jpegA11823F3-74B4-44C1-8C18-18A1CCC9792E.jpegDAAB6E9D-53C0-4953-855F-363A68AECD9E.jpeg

I thought I was going to be blown out of the stand this afternoon. I also dressed for the temperature, not the wind.

I decided to climb down, go get the truck, and drive down to another stand. I sat there for a few minutes and just got discouraged.

I drove back to the stand I had gotten down from, but instead of driving past, and walking back to it, I just parked the dang truck at the bottom of it.

I guess some critters don't care that there's a truck with a pissed off "hunter" sitting in it. Hunter is in quotes, because "that ain't huntin!"

Pig down.

Motorized hide on wheels, just don’t use it for that on a public road…at least not intentionally.

One of my archery season harvests from this year - had a beautiful sit first week of October, hung a saddle over the best sign I could find and he came out right at last light and hit a rub 10 yds from my tree. Hit him clean and ran about 40 yds and crashed in sight. What a great feeling. Already can’t wait for next season!
